Designs are drawn directly onto the surface of the metal, then engraved into the metal using a variety of steel tools. During the course of the lessons students will learn how to set up, sharpen and maintain the engraving tools. We will also cover the drawing and marking on the designs onto metal. It will be taught using the traditional techniques of the hand engraver.

Cyan Clayworks is an artist-run, non-for-profit studio and teaching space. This two hour workshop is aimed at adult beginners who would like an introduction to making ceramics. Firstly you will be able to make and decorate an unique set of handmade tiles using coloured slips; creating colour, pattern and texture. Each person will be introduced to wheelthrowing; we will take you through the basics of each stage and everyone will make a small pot each. Your pieces will be finished, fired and glazed for you ready to collect a few weeks later. Like all our courses, class sizes are limited so lots of hands-on support. The Arienas Collective private classes are run from our supportive and welcoming home-based environment within a Georgian mews home in Edinburgh&rsquo;s City Centre New Town. We invite you to join us, leave any day-to-day worries behind, and immerse yourself in being creative.
Access to all the equipment you will need is included in the price.&nbsp;
Private classes can be themed to suit the occasion, such as a special birthday, hen do, or family celebration. Just let us know when booking and we can discuss the options.
On full day classes you are welcome to bring your own lunch. Alternatively, there are a wide range of independent sit-in or takeaway delis, caf&eacute;s, supermarkets and restaurants within a 5-10 minute walk. We can also provide a buffet style lunch if you prefer, just let us know your dietary requirements and budget, and we&#39;ll source some options.
PLEASE NOTE: Our workshop space is on the first-floor of a Georgian mews building and unfortunately we do not have lift access. The workshop space is in our home which is&nbsp;not&nbsp;nut free. Please let us know of any skin or food allergies before booking.
