<p>This five week course, run by Fiona, will run on Thursday mornings from 10.30 til 1 from 4th of March (original date from 14th jan). Suitable for complete beginners, and those with some prior experience who would like to refresh and develop their skills further.&nbsp;</p>
<p>During the course we will cover different approaches to working creatively with clay. This will include handbuilding, wheel throwing and using press moulds. You will be able to experiment with surface decoration; painting with coloured slips, creating patterns and textures, and glazing. If you've been on a course before you might like to plan some pieces, or perhaps scale up.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Limited class sizes (four places), so lots of hands on support and enough space for everyone. You will be given one to one input while on the wheel.&nbsp;</p>
<p>&pound;185 per person, inclusive of booking fee, use of tools, materials, preparation, and firings.&nbsp;This is a slight increase from last year due to restrictions on numbers and increased overheads.</p>
<p>Cyan Clayworks is a social enterprise and working ceramic studio, run by ceramic makers Fiona and Chris.&nbsp;The studio is spacious, bright and airy, in the bigger complex of Beaverhall Studios.</p>

<p fr-original-style="" style="color: var(--text); font-size: var(--font-size); box-sizing: border-box;">On this workshop, taught by Edinburgh&nbsp;jeweller and silver clay specialist Anna Campbell, you will learn the traditional skill of soldering to advance your jewellery-making skills in order to make different types of jewellery including stud earrings and cufflinks.</p>
<p fr-original-style="" style="color: var(--text); font-size: var(--font-size); box-sizing: border-box;">This is the perfect follow-on&nbsp;to&nbsp;the beginners workshops, and has been requested by our participants! It&rsquo;s also the right workshop for you if you want to make jewellery to sell, or simply wish to make unique pieces&nbsp;for yourself, or as gifts&nbsp;for friends.&nbsp;</p>

This full-day intermediate workshop is suitable for anyone who has attended our beginners Silver clay taster or Introduction to silver clay jewellery workshops, or has experience of working with metal clay.
On this workshop, taught by Edinburgh jeweller and silver clay specialist Anna Campbell, you will learn the traditional skill of soldering to advance your jewellery-making skills in order to make different types of jewellery including stud earrings and cufflinks.
This is the perfect follow-on to the beginners workshops, and has been requested by our participants! It’s also the right workshop for you if you want to make jewellery to sell, or simply wish to make unique pieces for yourself, or as gifts for friends. 
We will begin by designing and making stud earrings, cufflinks and a pendant out of silver clay. This part serves as a good recap on what you’ve learnt previously. We will spend the majority of our time focussing on the skill of soldering. You will learn:
How to solder earring posts onto earrings to make studs
How to solder silver cufflink backs onto your silver clay pieces
How to solder a jump ring onto a pendant (instead of drilling a hole)
Loads of practical hints and tips
We will cover two different types of soldering, talk about the equipment and materials you need (not much more than for working with silver clay), troubleshooting and more. You will have plenty of supervised practice, and by the end of the day you should have the confidence and skills you need to start making soldered silver clay jewellery at home.

The Arienas Collective workshops, courses and events are run from a supportive and welcoming home-based environment within a Georgian mews home in Edinburgh’s City Centre New Town. We invite you to join us, leave any day-to-day worries behind, and immerse yourself in being creative.
Spaces on our workshops and courses are limited so that our creative team of artists and makers can offer you the hands-on help and support you need to make the most of your time with us. 
All the equipment and materials you will need are included in the price, unless stated otherwise, plus light refreshments (a selection of Shibui teas, coffee, hot chocolate, and sweet or savoury snacks). On full day workshops you are welcome to bring your own lunch to eat inside or out; or there are a wide range of independent sit-in or takeaway delis, cafés, and restaurants, plus supermarkets, within a 5-10 minute walk.

How do I attend?

EITHER -
CLASSROOM OPTION - Attend one of our scheduled classroom locations, completing your Introduction to Phlebotomy Course over 2 days. You will also complete your Advanced Training at the end of the first day and your Competency Training at the end of the second day.

Our Introduction to Phlebotomy and Advanced Phlebotomy Training Kits are supplied at no charge when booking our virtual classroom training option.
If you would like to add one or both of these kits to your classroom training option then these are available to add at time of booking. Our comprehensive training kits each mirror the same equipment and supplies used in the classroom and both include detailed video tutorials, allowing you to continue to practice and "hone" your skills after you have completed your practical training.

OR -

VIRTUAL CLASSROOM OPTION- Complete your theory training online at home or work, then join us for a one day Zoom session to complete your Introduction to Phlebotomy virtual classroom training, followed by your Advanced Training in the evening of the same day. You have the option to add a classroom-based competency session, awarding a CPD Accredited Geopace Certificate of Competency, at time of booking.

Our Virtual Classroom option includes two very comprehensive training kits - one for your introductory course and one for your advanced course. Kits are included at no charge (normally £79.95 each) and are yours to keep and to continue to practice with after you have finished your courses. 5 - Veins in back of hand:
Detecting suitable veins in the back of the hand.
6 - POC testing:
Point of Care Testing - use of glucose meter to demonstrate a typical POC test procedure. Correct use and overview of other POC test devices.
7 - Using lancets (finger collection)
We look at the correct use of lancets for POC testing and whole blood micro-collection.
8 - Using lancets (heel collection)
We look at the correct use of lancets for neonatal blood spot tests (Guthrie Test).
9 - Capillary collection
Using glass capillary tubes for micro-collection. Correct use and handling.
10 - Microtube collection
Correct use of BD Microtainers (and similar micro-collection bottles) - collection and handling.
