At Splash Start our philosophy is focussed on relationships both with our swimmers, parents/guardians & our staff. We recognise the unique individual learning styles of each child and our personalised programme reflects this. Calum & Amy have learnt to swim with Splash Start and have loved every lesson. Thanks to all at Splash Start, Laura Hope Kids have progressed well with their swimming since starting lessons with Splash Start. Teachers have so much patience with the children. Big thank you to Karen & the team. Charles had no confidence in the water before starting with Splash Start now I cant get him out the pool.

Initially we created training programmes that women could deliver to other women. These programmes were designed to develop self-esteem, confidence, peer relationships and support in classrooms. In talking to young women we found that the classroom was where a lot of the issues came from so we wanted to focus on building a relationship with schools and supporting the issues and inequalities that young women were facing in the classroom. We bring women together to support each other and believe that "if you can't see it, you can't be it". Having female role models is of huge significance to show other women what can be achievable. The services we offer include Circle Time, Mind Body and Soul and SHE Voices. We also recently hosted a popular event, "Embrace It Aw" to showcase the work we have been doing and we had guest speakers from inspirational female speakers which was really well received. Currently working and living in Milan, Italy, Robert Marjoribanks’ work finds inspiration and a great attachment to space and identity, spirituality and pragmantism. New perspectives and varied visual information are combined to explore possible narratives which may be overlooked or ignored as opportunities to make art which often talks of the relationships we have with our own and others culture and living spaces. Trained as a printmaker at Gray’s School of Art he was increasingly interested in the physicality of the print process. This intrigue pushed and pulled him into a more sculptural way of working. Taking into consideration the appropriate materials to use he often works with cast or found objects placed into a relationship with printed media and the environment they are found in. After being awarded his bachelor’s degree he went on to become the workshop assistant at the Edinburgh Printmakers in his hometown. After a year working with an artist residency program helping to curate and working with artists in Shanghai he has lived and worked in Treviso and now Milan, Italy.

Kids love our after school clubs. Parents do too. At Trinity After School Club we are proud of the exciting and stimulating childcare we offer. We understand each child is different and that they want to get involved in different things. Every day there are planned arts and crafts activities, outdoor games, and quiet time for reading or to do homework. All the children get involved in planning the activities and outings at the after school clubs. They bring new ideas or develop initiatives suggested by the staff. The kids make sure we do interesting things and get involved in the community – from a tooth brushing project, writing a song and a performance on anti-bullying to building relationships with a local elderly residential care home. We make sure there is plenty of variety. Our experienced staff encourage an all-inclusive environment where consideration for others is paramount. Policies and procedures are in place to cover all aspects of childcare to reassure parents and guardians that we have their children's interests at heart. Flexibility of care is important to parents and guardians and we offer full-time (5 days per week) and part-time places (2, 3 or 4 days per week), and we operate a Crocodile Club for P1 and P2 children who finish earlier. We cover most holidays and in-service days and our team plan ahead with the children to offer a great range of holiday activities.

Penicuik High School is a co-educational, non-denominational High School serving Penicuik and the surrounding area within Midlothian. The current school building with its imposing frontage has been on its present site since 1937 and the school has a reputation for offering a wide and stimulating curriculum and supporting young people to achieve academically, socially and culturally. Amongst some of its famous alumni are: Sir James Hamilton (the first Dux of the school), the designer of the Concorde’s delta wings, Scotland’s Grand Slam captain, Jim Aitken, Football internationals Craig Paterson and Billy Kirkwood, former Chief executive of NHS Scotland, Malcolm Wright, celebrity stylist to the stars and royalty, Denise McAdam RSM, Rosemarie McIlwhan, Director of the Scottish Human Rights Centre. We are equally proud of the many young men and women who have passed through our doors and are now making valuable contributions both locally, nationally and internationally. Many of our current students have parents and even grandparents who attended the school and this link to the past is important to our ethos. One of the key aims of the school, supported by its current PRIDE values is to develop all our young people and provide the best education possible so they are able to become productive and fulfilled citizens who progress into positive working lives and careers. In order to do this we need to work in partnership with all parents/carers and community partners to offer the widest possible curriculum that develops personal and social skills and ensures they attain suitable qualifications to progress to positive destination after school. This means we must be here to celebrate the many successes of our young people but also be prepared to work with you and your young person when things go wrong and they need support and guidance to continue to develop and mature. Erin Whyte (founder and teacher) – I started my love of music at a young age and began classical training from the age of 14. After leaving school I went on to study popular singing at Jewel and Esk College on their HND Music course. During these 2 years I sang in bands and in choirs and my passion for performing was born. From here I went on to focus on my classical voice at Edinburgh Napier University where I studied on their BMus (hons) course for 4 years. I gained a lot of experience singing solo and in small groups which really helped build my self-confidence. I have worked with children for over 16 years, starting out shadowing a music teacher in primary schools. This is where I found my love for teaching music to young children. Knowing I wanted to work with children I left retail and started working at Newtongrange After School Club. From here I began working as a Learning Assistant at Stockbridge Primary School and worked at their After School Club. Following the birth of my son in 2014 I gave up work to be a full time Mum. With lots more free time I could take him to classes for little ones where I met some of my best friends, and Charlie did too. I found out how invaluable these classes were for both child and carer and realised that this was the environment I wanted to work in. In 2015 I became a teacher for Monkey Music. Here I learnt how to really work with babies and toddlers and grow relationships with them and their carers. My dream for a long time has been to combine my passions for singing, music and working with young children. With the arrival of our daughter Katie at the start of 2017 I am finally back to work and realising that dream. I think it’s highly important to have affordable and educational classes for babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers in and around local areas, not only for the little ones to make friends, but for the adults to meet people from the community too. Music is a great tool to bring people together and also encourages self-confidence which is an important factor in a young person’s life.n
