This day course will run from 10 am- 4pm and will teach you basic metalwork skills such as piercing, etching, forming and riveting whilst making a humorous steel Dachshund dog with a brass crown and button wheels.
All materials and templates are included in the price.
The class will be no larger than 5 people and held in Bryony's own colourful and eclectic workshop at Coburg House Studios in Leith, Edinburgh.
Due to Covid19 restrictions Bryony cannot provide tea, coffee but she will point you in the direction of some great local Leith Deli's and coffee shops where you can pick up lunch or feel free to bring your own.
In accordance with Covid19 Safety measures students are provided with disposable masks and/ or visors to wear. The class size is now 5 students rather than 8, with work spaces socially distanced by 2 meters. All tools are sanitised before use.

Make a Dachshund Workshop

Alien spoons? Well, only because it is a memorable name and some of the knife grasps feel a bit alien to start with. You will soon get to grips with them and the focus of this workshop is learning to use safe and efficient carving techniques with hand tools - the axe, straight knives and hook knives... maybe also a drawknife on a shave horse.
By following good technique you will avoid injuries and with regular stretching this will help you to look after your body as well as the tools. You should leave with the knowledge and confidence to carve safely at home. The tools are relatively cheap and easy to use in a small space.
You will have access to a range of tools, but primarily use the Mora wood carving knives (106/120/164s) and be shown traditional designs for optimising strength and utility. Using these traditional tools you will make a spoon from local and sustainable fresh cut green wood - starting with a log and leaving with a spoon. From the initial splitting of the log with a froe or axe, trimming this down with an axe, and on to carving finer details and decorations with knives. Additional skills in building a shave horse and other green wood working can also be taught. This course is run from close to central Edinburgh and is accessible by public transport.&nbsp;
Depending on the weather it can be inside or outdoors in the wildlife garden. Courses can also be arranged to suit your availability! Please get in touch to discuss your requirements, discounts are available for small groups or multiple days. Course numbers are usually limited to five or less; individual training courses can also be arranged.

Cyan Clayworks is an artist-run, non profit studio and teaching space. This three hour introductory class is suitable for adult beginners, and will focus on tile making, press moulded dishes and&nbsp;wheel throwing. Each student will be introduced to the basics of throwing; centering the clay, and forming a small vessel each. You will be able to create a small group of unique textured and coloured slip decorated tiles and a pressmoulded dish using one of our moulds.
Limited class sizes with both Fiona and Chris teaching so lots of hands on support! You will be given one to one support while on the wheel.
Your work will be trimmed (wheelthrown pots), fired and glazed ready to collect a few weeks later. You'll be notified by email and will then have a month to collect your pieces.

In this workshop you&rsquo;ll learn a method for constructing Celtic knots on a framework of squared or dotted paper that will allow you to create simple square knots and enable you to design your own more complicated constructions of borders frames and shapes, adding shading and decoration.We&rsquo;ll spend the first part of the workshop going over the steps you&rsquo;ll need to know including how to draw and decorate your knot in fine liner pen and/or watercolour. Suitable for beginners and those with more experience, in this workshop you will design and create your very own bespoke, slate garden mosaic with Jacky from Mossy Mosaic.Mosaic making fits in perfectly with our vision of a world where recycling, repurposing and upcycling is the norm. Old slate can form the perfect base for a garden mosaic, hanging from the shed or balancing on a border. Bring new colour and interest into your garden with your very own bespoke design using vitreous glass, old china and sea washed glass!In this workshop you will use a reclaimed slate base to make a gorgeous mandala mosaic. You will be shown how to cut china and vitreous glass and you can also include sea washed glass and glass nuggets as part of your design. We will embed the tiles into an adhesive mortar mixture (an alternative method to gluing &amp; grouting). But if they no longer serve their storytelling purpose, that needn&#39;t be the end of their creative life.On this 2.5 hour taster workshop, artist Panna Chauhan will show you how to repurpose a pre-loved book into a beautiful sculpture.&nbsp;Panna discovered - and developed - her love for book folding while rehabilitating. The mindful process of gently folding and bending the pages of the damaged books she found helped her healing. She has since exhibited her book sculptures, and will share some of these with you on the day.All materials are provided. In this course we will be combining my passions of Qigong and Breathwork to help bring us into balance so we can move though Autumn into winter full of peace and vitality.
Why Qigong and Breathwork?
Qigong is breathwork (Qi is Breath), it is an amazing way of opening and clearing the body, of making space for our healthy energy to flow. It allows us to stay relaxed and receptive without forcing or pushing. It is easy to learn and naturally attuned to your individual body and how it wants to expand, release and recharge.
Breathwork is simply bringing our conscious attention to our breath and is one of the most powerful ways we have to change our state at any given moment. In the course i will introduce you to eight different breath techniques to help you to breathe better. Commit to just 10mins a day and you’ll be amazed at the results you can achieve.

LOOKING FOR: ADULT FICTION, NON-FICTION
Liza represents a range of fiction and non-fiction. On the fiction side, she is looking for historical fiction that is well researched, immerses readers in the era, and looks at overlooked characters from the past, or perhaps gives a new spin on someone we think we know. On the literary and upmarket side, she is looking for novels infused with emotions that capture the human experience and make readers think. If your literary novel is something at A24 productions might turn into a movie, this is Liza’s taste.
When it comes to fantasy, she loves urban and grounded fantasy (no sci-fi please!), and is always happy to look at anything with a vampire, werewolf, witches, warlocks, fairies, and perhaps a sinister selkie or two. She is also very much looking for romantasy and is the best person at the agency to submit that too. For thrillers, send her anything set in an exotic location, high-concept, or things with a speculative twist. She loves when characters are put in situations she would never want to be in, and then they have to get out of it. Her recent favourite fiction includes: Notes on an Execution, Lady Macbethad, Hamnet, A Discovery of Witches, House of Earth and Blood, The Starless Sea, Piranesi, Our Wives Under the Sea, The Pisces, Such A Fun Age.
When it comes to non fiction, she is looking for books that teach her something new or reframe a topic from an alternative point of view. This can include cookery, pop science, and social history.
