We start the year with a much-welcome focus on our skincare and wellbeing with this new workshop from The Scottish Soapworks.
On this 2.5 hour session, Jenny will take you through the benefits of 3 tried and tested recipes for making:
a natural antibacterial Tea Tree nail cream
an anti-inflammatory, cleansing and invigorating Peppermint and Eucalyptus foot cream, and
a calming and relaxing Lavender and Rosemary hand and body cream.
You will work with a carrot oil cream base, which is rich in Vitamin C, and have the option of blending up to 3 personal fragrances from a selection of oils including Lemongrass, Orange, Lemon, Lime, Musk or Grapefruit if you prefer.
You will take home approximately 375g of hand-blended cream split across 3 beautiful, refillable glass Kilner style jars. And as an extra special finishing touch, you will embellish each jar with an individual label, and complementary decorative details.
All materials and equipment are included in the price, and we will be offering a complimentary fruity or fizzy drink alternative in addition to our usual refreshments.
After your workshop, you will be sent a set of notes including details of the ingredients, equipment and tried and tested recipes used, plus a list of suppliers so you can continue blending your own creams at home.
This is a great workshop if you want to cut back on single-use packaging; learn more about the ingredients you use on your skin - and which ultimately end up in our rivers and oceans; and love the idea of making your own using simple, easy-to-use methods. It's also a fun - and relaxing - creative activity to do at home, either on your own, or with other family members.

In this workshop you&rsquo;ll learn all about printing with traditional materials, in the same way that books and newspapers were originally printed with vintage metal and wood type.&nbsp;

Choose to make greetings cards, postcards or bookmarks with your own personalised message. You may want to bring along a short quote or sentiment, a sentence is perfect, but we&rsquo;ll have plenty of ideas on hand to inspire you too.

You&rsquo;ll set your chosen metal type and print it on one of our Adana tabletop presses. These portable machines are perfect for the hobby printer and a great way to get started in letterpress printing. We&rsquo;ll show you the basics of how to set the press up for printing, how to register your print perfectly and how to clean everything down at the end of the session.&nbsp;

3 - Monovette (open and closed systems):
Using the Monovette system in aspiration mode - correct use and applications.
Using the Monovette system in evacuated mode - correct use and applications.
4 - IR Vein Detector:
Demonstration of the IR vein detector for assisting in detection of difficult veins.
5 - Veins in back of hand:
Detecting suitable veins in the back of the hand.
6 - POC testing:
Point of Care Testing - use of glucose meter to demonstrate a typical POC test procedure. Correct use and overview of other POC test devices.
7 - Using lancets (finger collection)
We look at the correct use of lancets for POC testing and whole blood micro-collection.
8 - Using lancets (heel collection)
We look at the correct use of lancets for neonatal blood spot tests (Guthrie Test).
9 - Capillary collection
Using glass capillary tubes for micro-collection. Correct use and handling.
10 - Microtube collection
Correct use of BD Microtainers (and similar micro-collection bottles) - collection and handling.

LOOKING FOR: ADULT FICTION, NON-FICTION
Daisy Chandley joined PFD in 2019 after graduating from the University of Oxford with a BA in Politics, Philosophy and Economics. She is an Associate Agent and assistant to Senior Agent Annabel Merullo and Head of Books Tim Bates as the UK sub-agent for New Directions Publishing in the US. Daisy is actively building a list of both fiction and non-fiction authors across a range of genres.
With fiction, Daisy's wishlist roughly falls into three categories – if something feels like it overlaps between them, even better!
1) Sharp, original novels on the literary to upmarket spectrum, all the way from deeply dark and boundary-pushing books like Hurricane Season, Under The Skin or In The Cut to those balancing edge, heart and humour, like Detransition, Baby or A Visit From The Goon Squad. She loves irreverent wit, daring approaches in narrative or form, and seriously unsettling stories in equal measure, and if you can bring a few of those elements into one, it’ll go straight to the top of her.
2) Com-heavy rom-coms, whether in the dry but ultimately sob-inducing vein of Greta and Valdin or a Nora Ephron film, the escapist screwball delight of a Cary Grant classic, or the more unusual, genre-bending style of something like Palm Springs. Daisy is a sucker for Emily Henry and will always be happy to see an innovative take on tropey love stories, but is equally very keen to see to things a bit outside of the box, whether that’s integrating speculative elements, dark humour, or topical issues. In any case, humour and originality are my priority, and affectionately snarky bickering is the best way to make her fall head over heels with a couple.
3) Sleuths! Daisy is not the right person for police procedurals, but loves classic detectives and amateur sleuths. Whether it’s a delightful Knives Out or Nancy Drew homage or an intricate, unputdownable mystery on the darker side, the minute someone finds a good old fashioned clue, count her in!
Overall, whether it’s a delightfully fun and scandalous page-turner or something really bold and experimental, if it’s stylish and smart – and maybe even a bit sexy – Daisy would love to see it.
Daisy is definitely interested in literary speculative fiction, though not generally looking for hard SFF. Across the board, she is always looking for stories that explore sexuality, race, gender, and disability, and would particularly love to hear from writers whose voices and experiences aren’t given enough space in publishing.
On the non-fiction side, Daisy is looking for bold new insights and underrepresented voices on popular science, nature writing, relationships, social issues and politics, and am always especially interested in fresh, playful and exciting writing on pop culture, love and the internet. She’d also love to see illuminating narrative non-fiction, whether a beautiful and lyrical exploration, or an enthralling and explosive deep-dive.

Laura is actively building a fiction list and a small non-fiction list. Watercolour Techniques for All - 4 week Online Course Tuesday Evenings Via Zoom

Nicola Slee is a theologian, writer and spiritual director. Author of numerous books exploring feminist theology, liturgy and spirituality, and much more. Her academic posts are: Professorial Research Fellow at the Queen&#39;s Foundation, Professor of Feminist Practical Theology at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam &amp; Visiting Professor at the University of Chester.

Nicola will help us to explore how our language and imagery for God plays out in prayer and spirituality, taking into account feminist and other critiques of dominant patriarchal and hierarchical God language and imagery. The evening will include input from Nicola, use of prayer and poetry, conversation in small groups and interaction with the speaker. 

Nicola Slee is a theologian, writer, poet and spiritual director. 
Nicola has wide-ranging experience of adult education and has a particular interest in feminist theology, practical theology and the role of poetry and the arts in Christian education and life. She has written numerous books and articles, exploring feminist theology, liturgy, spirituality, and much more.
