DTQ awards post-registration qualifications to General Dental Council (GDC) registrants, who are working as part of the dental team and who wish to develop additional skills beyond the profession-standardised learning objectives and assessment criteria for GDC registration, and qualifications to non-registrant members of the dental team who are working in dental administration roles. Any dental care professional wishing to carry out additional duties must be able to demonstrate their competence to do so, and therefore undertake additional development of their skills, knowledge and understanding. The purpose of DTQ’s qualifications is to provide a structure for dental care professionals to develop additional skills on which they are assessed, and for non-registrants to learn and develop knowledge, understanding and skills relating to dental administration and gain qualifications and professional recognition for such development. Our focus is to develop and quality assure modern assessments and qualifications for the dental team, including apprenticeship end-point assessments; which are not only fit for purpose for 21st century dentistry, but follow evidence-based educational and assessment principles, which produce high quality members of the clinical and administrative dental team, following General Dental Council requirements. We have extensive knowledge and experience in dentistry, including expertise in examining and designing assessments, and have a thorough understanding of what training organisations want and need from an Awarding Organisation. The GDC’s Standards for Education and Scope of Practice documents underpin the development of any new DTQ qualifications. Working closely with training providers and other key stakeholders, we have created a range of innovative qualifications that are fit for purpose for 21st century dentistry and the wider dental team. Our qualifications are geared to supporting your day to day role in dentistry, whilst enhancing your personal development and that of your team. We have researched the provision of education for the dental team as part of a PhD study, and have peer-reviewed publications which continue to underpin our evidence-based approach to training and assessment for dental professionals. Our team members examine from dental nurse through to Royal College specialty assessments and include GDC and Royal College Education Associates. We aim for excellence in all that we do. Our Research DTQ have pioneered and examined the pedagogy of adult dental education and training for the integrated dental team. We have extensively researched interprofessional education as part of a PhD study. Our qualifications are evidence – based relating to our findings, enabling assessments geared to facilitating educational processes which not only focus on developing knowledge, but it’s application to enhance understanding. This allows dental professionals to maximize their potential and deliver enhanced patient care. We practice exactly what we preach and have proven results based upon work in our own centres. Please see the official press release below: WMCA unveils plan for region’s digital future The West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) has launched its plan to give the region a digital reboot, with an aim to tackle digital exclusion, reach net zero and support a post-Covid recovery. The WMCA Digital Roadmap was presented at Venturefest West Midlands, one of the region’s top business events for digital entrepreneurs. This year’s keynote speaker was Ben Francis, the West Midlands-based founder of billion-dollar sportswear brand Gymshark. The plan outlines five missions to digitise the region, including becoming the UK’s best digitally connected region and increasing access to digital opportunities by tackling digital exclusion. The plan will build on the successes of the region’s 5G testbed and its innovation in transport, and make the most unique regional opportunities like HS2, the Commonwealth Games, and Coventry City of Culture. The Digital Roadmap was launched at Venturefest by Andy Street, Mayor of the West Midlands. He said: “This Roadmap sets out an ambitious plan for the West Midlands – to become a technologically advanced, forward looking digital economy, where everybody has access to the internet and data is used to improve our public services. Imbedding the latest technology into our economy will also help us reach net zero, where innovation still has a huge role to play in reducing the burden on us to change the way we live our lives. “Growth has been impacted by the coronavirus pandemic, but despite the adversity, there is also opportunity. The pandemic has accelerated the switch to digital and highlighted the need for a better-connected economy. To bounce back, we must weave digital into the way we do business. This means more digital bootcamps to train us for the jobs of the future; more digital devices to connect our residents to opportunities; and more innovation to help us reduce our carbon footprint and save the planet.” The Roadmap has been developed over the last six months and has been approved by the WMCA Board. As well as aiming to make the West Midlands the most digitally connected region in the UK, the roadmap aims to address the issue of the ‘digital divide’. Since the start of the pandemic many firms have quickly adapted to their employees working from home and communicating online. However, lots of small business have struggled to adopt technology fast enough and some families have struggled with home schooling due to a lack of devices or unaffordable connections. The plan sets out to ensure the region remains number one in leadership on 5G, there will be an accelerated full fibre rollout, and 4G connectivity will be boosted. The roadmap highlights key sectors to support where the region is already globally competitive: Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CAV) in Coventry; data-driven healthcare in Birmingham and Solihull, and the gaming industry’s ‘Silicon Spa’ in Warwickshire. Venturefest West Midlands was founded to provides entrepreneurs, investors and innovators to meet, engage and exchange ideas for co-operation and collaboration, particularly in the fields of science and emerging technologies. It is led by the WMCA along with local enterprise partnerships, universities and business organisations. Also speaking at the event was Kari Lawler who launched a start-up at the age of 14 and is also a member of the Young Combined Authority said: “Through my AI youth initiative, YOUTH4AI I have been able to communicate to young people the importance and possibilities of AI. “The West Midlands has a young population which will benefit from a decrease in the digital divide and an increase in digital connectivity.” Cllr Patrick Harley, WMCA portfolio lead for Culture and Digital and leader of Dudley Council said: “Digital connectivity is going to be vital to our economic recovery and harnessing digital innovation will enable economic growth for the next decade and beyond. “This roadmap will help us realise the potential of digital to transform our economy and build economic resilience, firmly putting the West Midlands on the map as the most digitally connected region.”

My name is Carmela, I am Italian and I hold a full English teaching qualification in Post Compulsory Education and Training (Cert.Ed.)and a Qualified Teaching and Learning Status (QTLS).I also have a BA degree in Post Compulsory Education and Training from Warwick University. I have been teaching Italian for over ten years privately and for colleges. I have taught Italian at the Brasshouse language centre in Birmingham, at North Warwickshire & Hinckley College and South Staffordshire College as well as delivering training for companies such as EXD Ltd. in Coventry, Arlani in Burton, Redrock in Birmingham and for private groups, reaching areas in the West Midlands, from Birmingham to Coventry, Warwick to Lichfield and Solihull. ITALIAN LANGUAGE CULTURE AND COOKING WORKSHOPS- ABOUT ME I grew up in a small village in a traditional Neapolitan family where we prepared local and classical Italian dishes, growing and preserving most of the food we ate. Preparing pasta or gnocchi for our Sunday lunch was a family get together event! We all helped and learned how to make things in a traditional way. During the major festivities such as Christmas and Easter the food preparation took weeks and families and friends exchanged their creations: Struffoli, Panettone and Pandoro at Christmas; Pastiera, Tortano or Casatiello at Easter; for Carnival we made Chiacchiere, and for father’s days Zeppole. There were times when we all went to zia’s house to cook pizza and bread in her stone oven… every occasion was special and gave us an excuse to prepare a traditional dish. Therefore, my love for the food and food preparation grew thanks to the area I was born and my family’s customs. When later I travelled as a student, I exchanged recipes with other people and grandmas from Sicily, Puglia and Tuscany. Therefore, the Italian cooking workshop is an opportunity for me to share with you, in my kitchen, what I have learned, and recreate together an authentic Italian experience.
