I have had a love of plants and flowers from an early age, and I used to earn my pocket money as a child weeding my gran's garden. She was a very knowledgeable ‘plants woman’ and I absorbed so much from spending time with her. My mum also loved flowers, and it was her ambition to fill every room of her house with them all year round; she never quite managed it! Building on their passion, I decided to take up the gauntlet, and started to grow seasonal flowers from seed. I became addicted, and was soon making bouquets for friends and selling flowers and plants at my garden gate. It was here that I met my first bride-to-be who was buying one of my posies. We started chatting and she casually asked me if I would do her wedding flowers. She liked the fresh, scented, pretty flowers that were not available on the high street. My cottage garden flowers lent themselves so beautifully to a natural, free-flowing design… I immediately said yes, and have never looked back.

SOPHIE RAE IS A MURAL ARTIST WORKING PREDOMINANTLY IN BRISTOL, LONDON + THE SOUTH WEST SPECIALISING IN BOLD, COLOURFUL, BOTANICAL, ABSTRACT DESIGNS Sophie Rae loves gliding a paintbrush across a smooth surface, transforming bland grey walls into beautiful works of art. It is truly where she gets in the flow. She loves working on walls outside and in, large scale murals as well as smaller ones. She’s painted murals in gardens, cafes, bars, restaurants, offices, schools, shop and high street facades and hoardings, to name a few. Drawing inspiration from plants (glorious plants) and enlarging, and playing with abstraction until a sweet balanced composition emerges. As well as mural painting Sophie creates beautiful prints, lovingly handcrafted, without using a press. Shapes are sketched and refined, then cut by hand with a craft knife into stencils. A roller then applies ink in the gaps. This helps give each print its irregularities. If you’re after learning from Sophie Rae she can be found sharing her unique printing technique, inspiring and igniting creativity through (fairly) regularly teaching workshops. Once a month at Kiln Workshop, in Bristol and now and again at schools and colleges across the South West, sometimes even further! Check out the workshops page. WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT? Our approach is light touch with minimal intervention in the environment and prioritising nature. We are currently developing our site facilities and creating spaces for small groups and low impact events. These include bushcraft, forest school, wellbeing sessions, forest bathing, yoga, pilates, artist retreats etc. We’re already working with schools, charities, youth and arts groups. If you've got a small scale event, workshop or idea you'd like to make happen, we would love to hear from you. Just drop us a message on our contact page. NATURE Our ethos is very much one of balance, so for us plants and animals are as important as people. We are currently working with fantastic environmental advisors to establish what plants and animals are currently residing on our site. Our aim is to protect the habitats that already exist, create a comprehensive management plan and increase biodiversity where possible. It's all about the science! In common with most of the British Isles the land here has been managed by humans for hundreds of years - a mixture of farming, park land and old tree plantations. It’s not wild in the true sense of an untouched natural ecosystem but it’s a special place that has been left pretty much to itself for several decades. We’re just starting our long term project to create more detailed surveys of the flora and fauna, and are excited to meet and work with new people. I'm Angela and I have always loved flowers and plants, not to mention hosting and styling parties. I recently decided it was time to get back to work following the births of our two lovely daughters, Elena and Mila. Coming from an advertising background, I have always been surrounded by a pantone book and the creative folk that go with it, which I love. As much as I love marketing and advertising, I simply love designing flowers more. I signed up to do a floristry course and soon realised....this was it! Now as glamourous as it may sound washing out buckets has become my favourite pass time. There are a lot of 5am trips to the flower market and a fair bit of manual labour with each stem scrutinised and prepared to ensure it lasts as long as possible...and I love it all. I wouldn't change it for anything. I love bringing a wedding to life and brightening up someone's day with a little bouquet of love and sunshine! I feel privileged to be living my dream.
