Founded in July 2007 with one supported living house and one short breaks house, plus a small amount of community Outreach services. The ethos of the company was very much about providing personalised and high-quality support for people with learning disabilities in their local communities, and about providing access to a wide range of social, leisure, training and development opportunities. We started with approximately 30 staff and have steadily grown over the past 11 years and now support over 219 people and have over 250 staff across our services. Throughout the growth we have continued to maintain our ethos of person centred high quality community-based support. We believe our staff represents our greatest asset. ASDAN is an education charity and awarding organisation providing courses, accredited curriculum programmes and regulated qualifications to engage, elevate and empower young people aged 11 to 25 years in greatest need. We define young people in greatest need as those living in poverty, without support for their emotional and social needs, those with a special educational need or disability, those not engaged or succeeding in their education, who miss an English and/or Maths pass at 16 or subsequently, and who are at risk of becoming NEET. Our goal is to engage them through relevant and motivating courses to achieve meaningful learning outcomes, which elevate them to go on to further education, training and work, and empower them to take control of their lives. We do this by developing courses with an accessible and practical pedagogy for learners; and by working with our partner educators to foster the personal, social and work-related abilities of young people in greatest need. We know the development of personal, social and work-related abilities is vital for learners of all abilities because: strengthening these abilities supports academic and vocational learning they are particularly effective in re-engaging young people in greatest need they are important for accessing knowledge and skills at work they are especially important for entry level work they equip learners to live well and make full use of their abilities We believe that young people should have the opportunity to discover, develop and make use of their abilities to affirm their identities, contribute to society, and challenge educational and social inequalities.

OCOSC was founded in 1989 to provide after school childcare between 3 PM and 6 PM in an area where such facilities were in very short supply but in high demand. This has since expanded to include mornings and holidays, an a wrap-around style. In line with parents’ requirements, the organisation is currently able to provide continuous support to children from age 4 to 14, 52 weeks of the year and a single point for collection and/or dropping-off family members of different ages and attending different schools. The objectives that the Club aims to meet through its work include early year education, training and providing care and counselling to children and young people. We cater for the educational, emotional, cultural, developmental and physical needs of the children that attend, in line with Ofsted requirements. Of our 18 staff, 12 have a recognised childcare qualification, 11 a recognised Playwork qualification and we aim to help all staff achieve their paediatric first aid certificate. Salsa Bristol is one of the longest-running Salsa and Latin dance schools in the South West region. Over the 11 years we have been running, we have had students from all walks of life and of all ages (from 18 to 70s!). Besides running our weekly classes, parties, and special events, we have taught at charity events, primary schools (including children and adults with special needs), and even Red Arrows pilots! Salsa Bristol's founder, Wayne, recognised how daunting it could be to go from a beginners level, to “improvers” – as a result, we were one of the first to bring in “jumpers” lessons to bridge the gap between these dance levels. Wayne Wayne and ClareWayne started dancing salsa in 2006. Not being the fastest learner he found it hard as a beginner to learn the turn patterns, keep the timing, lead the leads and think about what move to lead next without putting in 10 or 20 mambos first. He decided that so many others must struggle in a similar way that a new method could be taught in the form of weekly courses as opposed to drop-in classes. Having given much thought to this and realising that this wasn't being done elsewhere (certainly not in the South West) he spent the next 18 months travelling the West Country trying different teachers and learning not just what works but also learning what doesn't work so well! This concept soon became popular, and several companies have tried to copy a similar format, without the same success! Read more... Clare Clare fans 150x150pxClare had already been dancing since she was a young girl before she joined Salsa Bristol in around 2010. She progressed quickly, joining the team as a teaching assistant and eventually making her way to the "top" as head teacher, taking beginners and jumpers classes at our weekly events and teaching at Salsa Bristol's monthly parties at Fry's. Clare also teaches private lessons for individuals, school children, parties and other functions.

I have had over 20 years of experience teaching children across all ages. I have vast experience in managing children with Special Educational Needs (SEN). During my time in school I have been a class teacher, SENCo and SEN teacher and I have recently completed a Level 5 Diploma Teaching Learners with Dyslexia/Specific Learning Difficulties. Nature of the school and location Oldfield School is a successful, high attaining 11-18 mixed comprehensive with 1250 students located in the historic city of Bath. The school campus is on the outskirts of the north-west of the city and we benefit from a large, semi-rural setting with excellent transport links for students and staff. The school has an attractive, open and dispersed site. A notable feature is the location of teaching rooms and our Sixth Form in Penn House, an 18th century Georgian manor house. Our school has an excellent reputation locally and in the wider community for academic excellence and the quality of pastoral care and support. The school has with a comprehensive intake which reflects the diversity of the local community. The most recent Ofsted inspection was in January 2020, when the school was judged to be good in all areas. A feature of the inspection report was the inclusive nature of the school and the sense of community felt by staff and students. Oldfield is a school where staff development is an essential feature. A Level classes are relatively small, which provides a personalised learning experience for our students. Curriculum The curriculum for Key Stage 3 follows the National Curriculum. Students study either Spanish or French throughout Key Stage 3 with the more able studying both languages. A wide range of courses additional to the core subjects are offered at Key Stage 4. Students are encouraged to study humanities and languages and the great majority do so. There is setting in ability groups in Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 where appropriate. Almost all Key Stage 4 examination entries are GCSEs, Year 10 and 11 students typically study 9/10 GCSEs. Subjects are organised in six learning areas with the Leaders of Learning line-managed by the Senior Leadership Team (SLT). Pastoral Care Students remain in the same tutor group throughout their school career. The Heads of Year are responsible for the pastoral care of around 200-224 students from Years 7 to 11. The pastoral leaders are supported and line managed by a member of the SLT. We also have a House system to encourage a sense of community. The four houses are led by a Head of House and there are regular inter-house competitions and fund raising events. Resources and Accommodation The provision of high quality resources is a priority for the school. There are specialist teaching rooms for all subjects and most teachers have their own teaching room. ICT facilities are excellent with specialist ICT teaching rooms as well as comprehensive ICT facilities in many general teaching rooms. The school is very well maintained, ensuring that learning spaces of the highest possible standard are a priority. Oldfield School is a fantastic place to work. Henry's playscheme is our popular childcare initiative based at Horfield C of E School. It is managed by a voluntary committee of parents, who have children attending the School. The committee are always looking for parents/carers who wish to be involved with the running of the scheme. Henry's caters for children between the ages of 4 and 11 years. The club is based in our Partnership Room with its own cooking and toilet facilities and separate intercom entrance from the school to ensure the safety of your children. There is ample outdoor play space with both a grass and tarmac area. A light tea will be provided daily. Activities The Play Manager and Room Leaders will co-ordinate the play activities based on the ideas and suggestions of the children attending Henry's. These will include: arts and crafts, sport and games, cooking, entertainment, free play, computer, playstation, television/DVD, quiet corner for homework. Fees The scheme operates Monday to Friday afterschool during term time only. The fees per session are £11.75 per child. There are no reductions for siblings.

I’m a writer and teacher and I’ve been sharing my heart online since 2006. I’m the author of This I Know: Notes on Unraveling the Heart and my mission is to help people access their creative joy and nurture a deeper relationship with themselves. Words have been at the centre of my world for as long as I can remember. I started writing a diary aged 11 and grew not only a life-long journaling practice but also an unending curiosity about my place in the world. Studying photography at art school followed by a degree in journalism lead to me working as a journalist for many years, but the truth is my life, as I now know it, began in the spring of 2005 when the man I loved died very suddenly from a heart attack — everything I thought I knew about life changed in that instant. Walking through the fire of bereavement is how I truly came to inhabit every part of who I am, the shadows as well as the light. In 2006 I started writing a blog and being able to share my thoughts and feelings online was incredibly empowering, my way of getting back out there from the safety of my living room. Blogging helped reopen the door to my creativity, connecting me to other souls around the world as I found my way back to what was meaningful for me.

Started in 2017, Bristol Relationships is a fresh, dynamic, experience-led training initiative created by Barbara Bloomfield, Dominique Sakoilsky, Rex Baird and Zoe Baird. Barbara, Dominique and Rex have over fifty years of experience, with tens of thousands of contact hours of working with couples and, more recently, families between them. They all worked extensively together at Bristol Relate and, from 2007, were a core part of the team that pioneered the Family Counselling service there. All continue to have busy private practices. Now they are looking to share, expand and develop this body of knowledge and experience by offering specialist training to those interested working directly with human relationships. Zoe has a strong background in administration and organisation and is responsible for all the non-teaching aspects of Bristol Relationships. Barbara Bloomfield, MA Barbara Bloomfield Barbara has been a Counsellor for 23 years and a Counselling Supervisor for 15 years. She trained with Relate in relationship counselling and has completed over 16,000 hours of counselling and supervision during her career. In 2007, after taking a Diploma in Systemic Family Counselling, she, along with Dominique and Rex, started the Family Counselling service at Relate Avon. Barbara was a member of the Relate Domestic Abuse Training Team and has been a national spokesperson for Relate for many years, often quoted on tv, radio and media. She has written five books about relationships, one of which won a Time Out award in 1986. Her most recent book, Couple Therapy: Dramas of Love and Sex, is the world's first graphic novel about relationship counselling and is published in 11 languages. This book led to her working at Warsaw University in Poland with postgraduates. In 2017-18, Barbara won a Winston Churchill Travelling Fellowship to study creative and innovative ways of working with relationships where neuro-diversity is an issue in Australia and North America. Barbara is a Director of Lapidus International, the expressive arts organisation that brings together creative writing and arts with better mental health. She has a master's degree in creative writing and taught undergraduates at Bath Spa University. Her life passion is to continue helping people to have better lives and connections through therapeutic creativity.
