Established in 2020 by Lisa Holmes, we are a not for profit community focused organisation driven by a belief that everyone should have access to photography, the arts and culture, and the opportunity to express themselves in a supportive environment. Keighley Photo Hub emerged out of a pursuit to inspire and support our local community through a passion for photography, and a desire for actions to speak louder than words. Dealing with the challenges of today can be hard for everyone. That is why, through photography, we want to bring together different groups to help widen our knowledge of the community around us, consider different perspectives and use photography to explore key issues in our society.

Pennine Bushcraft was created with a simple goal; to share the joys of outdoor learning with as many people as possible. We believed then, as we still do now, that the only way to change attitudes to the outdoors, is to fully immerse oneself in the environment. Since then, we have worked with schools, youth groups, private companies and the wider public, to show that the best things happen to us when we're outdoors, and that we can be just as much a part of the environment as the birds, trees and flowers around us. Through bushcraft and nature education, we learn to coexist with nature and to harness her power and energy. Only then can we truly respect and protect our wild places.

Keda spent almost all of her teaching career at one school - Sandal Road Primary School in Baildon, UK. She also almost exclusively taught just one age group, 6-7 year-olds; the age that most children pick up their reading skills. This was to become Keda’s great passion - the teaching of reading. Initially, she was baffled as to why a significant proportion of the children in her classes struggled to pick up basic reading skills. To Keda, they were just as bright as the other children but - for them - reading remained a mysteriously difficult skill. Keda always had a keen and inquisitive mind and this question of why some children had difficulties in learning to read nagged at her. She thought that she had somehow failed these students, so she made an offer to their parents. She asked their permission to teach their children at her home - without charge - at the end of the school day. As a result of this offer, Keda’s house was soon overflowing with struggling readers. Keda even designed an extension to her house to include a custom-built classroom and persuaded her doting husband Albert to build it. For the next 30 years, Keda’s house - literally, just a stone’s throw away from the school where she worked - was full of children. Between 4-5pm every school day she looked for ways to improve their reading skills. Keda's All-Consuming Passion At the time Keda began her research into children’s reading problems, few people had even heard of the term ‘dyslexia’. Keda became fascinated by the condition and her private research soon became an all-consuming obsession. She divided the children into two groups. A control group where conventional methods were used, and her ‘guinea pigs’, where Keda tried anything and everything to see what would work. This painstaking process of trial and error became the genesis of what later came to be known as Toe By Toe. Keda had no idea what was happening in the psychology departments of universities. She simply looked at the reading process and pared it down to the bare essentials necessary to crack the code of this ‘reading thing’. This is also why Toe By Toe is so refreshingly free of jargon and psychological gobbledygook. It certainly wasn’t a ‘quick fix’ process. Only after decades of this meticulous approach did Toe By Toe eventually become the fully functioning system we have now. Keda named the system ‘Toe By Toe’ after a grateful parent commented that she could see how it worked: “Progress by tiny steps – almost one toe at a time…”

Since 2015 YSWN has established a network for women and girls interested in gaining skills and confidence in music and sound technology. We’re growing all the time, with several affiliated groups across Yorkshire – and as far afield as Malta – who provide a place for sharing skills and advice, finding mentors, making friends and building communities. In addition, we run a host of projects devoted to education, network-building and artistic development. We also work with the audio industry to promote equality, tackle discrimination and increase opportunities for women and people of non-binary genders. Our workshops offer hands-on experiences in DJ-ing, live coding, Ableton, soldering electronic instruments and much more, in friendly, encouraging environments. We’ve hosted inspiring talks by leading musicians and audio professionals – and we have our own podcast.

Jill was one of the original Directors who set up Silsden Youth CIC to help ‘save the Youth Club’. She was passionate about keeping a Youth provision for the Community and that became a passion to build a Community Centre for all. Jill is now employed by The Hive Silsden CIO to manage the day to day running of The Hive and with the help of the Charity Trustees, to secure a future for The Hive to stay and develop as a community asset. Jill is still passionate about keeping a Youth provision in our Community and is tirelessly working towards getting this up and running in the near future, as well as making sure groups and events run consistently and smoothly for all the Community to enjoy and be a part of.

The Lancashire and South Integrated Care Board (ICB) was formally established as a new statutory body on 1 July 2022, replacing the eight clinical commissioning groups across Lancashire and South Cumbria. Although we are a new organisation, we will build on the successful work by all our health and care organisations, including CCGs, over the last few years. Our role is to join up health and care services, improve people's health and wellbeing, and to make sure everyone has the same access to services and gets the same outcomes from treatment. We also oversee how money is spent and make sure health services work well and are of high quality.

Making music is inherently human: it connects us, has the ability to improve our lives and brings people together. It also helps people to grow in self-esteem, build essential skills and lead bright futures. It’s the reason we exist: to help the young people, schools and communities of Calderdale to have access to – and benefit from – life-enhancing music and arts opportunities. Calderdale Music Trust was established in May 2015 having previously been part of the local authority when it was known as Calderdale Music Service. In 2019, we took an important step forward in our transformational journey. We made changes to our structure and the way we operate, including the appointment of a new leadership team who share a passion and vision for making a positive difference in the communities we serve. Marking a new chapter, we have invested in our stunning new flagship HQ in Halifax, that will make it easier to bring people together, providing a community base for live performances, private lessons, a place to gather, and much more. We also listened to feedback from our schools, parents and our team resulting in our new name and brand identity: Calderdale Music. There’s no final destination; we see this as an ongoing journey to keep doing better and providing better services, which we’ll do by listening to the needs of our learners, their guardians, schools and hub partners. Our ambition is to create an inclusive, forward-looking service that puts people and their unique musical learning adventures at the heart of everything we do. We currently work with thousands of children, young people and adults, and this figure continues to rise year on year. The Justice and Peace Commission seeks to be a visible sign for Justice and Peace in the Diocese and the wider community. Our work is based on Gospel Values and Catholic Social Teaching. As Christians we believe in the dignity of human beings and the rights of people to live in peace. We take action on the most pressing issues facing our communities, such as Climate Change, Poverty and racism. The Commission is made up of around a dozen volunteers who meet 4 times a year to direct the work of the Commission. There is a smaller executive that meets in between and makes more day to day decisions. This structure is supplemented with action groups based on our priorities plus a Justice Spirituality group. Much of the work of the Commission is undertaken by volunteers. This is supplemented by paying individuals or organisations to provide specific services to the Commission.

Carolyn Eyre worked in the Local Authority safeguarding arena for many years, first in Education Welfare services before becoming Child Protection coordinator for a large authority with 265 schools, 18,500 staff and 110,000 school-aged children.More recently, she was Head of Health, Safety & Wellbeing for the authority - combining also the roles of Senior Allegations Manager and Safer Recruitment lead officer. Carolyn is well known for her work with FE colleges and is regularly invited to speak at national conferences on topics ranging from 'partnership working' through 'creating a safe school culture' to the 'preventive curriculum'. Carolyn has a particular interest in the protection of children and young adults with disabilities; her knowledge and understanding of the complexities of safeguarding vulnerable groups has won her many friends in the special school sector nationally. She has been the safeguarding adviser to NASS and its members for more than 12 years
