Founded in 1940 as an independent, voluntary association of six local youth clubs. Today, we are a regional voluntary youth organisation (RVYO), a registered charity and limited company with a membership of 120 local youth organisations. Our mission is to support the personal development and social education of children & young people and to promote good relations and community development. Each year we work directly with around 2500 young people, staff, and volunteers. We deliver membership support services, training, networking opportunities, policy guidance, youth projects, and an extensive programme of youth activities. Our current youth work priorities are about supporting young people’s health & well-being, life skills, physical activities, training & development projects, and information & support services. We aim to create conditions that inspire and enable young people to be their best in the pursuit of shared goals.

In the spring of 1965 a few members of Belmont church were concerned that their children, born in 1961, would not have a place in Belmont primary school in September 1965 as there were too many children for the place available, and it was felt that there was a need for a playgroup. Belmont Church was approached to see if a hall could be used for the group. All financial and other arrangements were organised by the church committee and in May 1965 Belmont Pres-School Playgroup opened its doors in Belmont Church. Belmont was the first Nippa run playgroup in Northern Ireland. UTV broadcast a programme from Belmont around 1980-81 which was hosted by Frank Carson and starred the children and staff. Funds were raised through hosting coffee mornings and it was also an opportunity to meet parent and children on a social basis. We remained at Belmont Presbyterian Church until June 2002 when we were to move to pastures new at Belmont Tower. However we were accommodated by St Mark’s Church due to awaiting completion of renovations to Belmont Tower. We spent from September 2002 to April 2004 at St Marks and moved to Belmont Tower in May 2004. In June 2006 the preschool room was awarded an accreditation by NIPPA (The Early Years Association) which was a great achievement. We spend a happy two years in Belmont Tower but when our lease finished we were grateful to St Marks for accommodating us on a temporary basis. We spent over a year in St Mark’s Heyn Hall offering a variety of indoor and outdoor play in a happy and relaxed atmosphere. In November 2008 we were filmed for the Peoples Millions with the support of the community, past pupils, staff , friends, family and our current parents, we won the £50,0000, that with our past fundraising events and the support of the Education Authority we obtained enough funds for a new build which commenced building in February 2009 and was completed 3rd April 2009. We opened our doors on the 20th April 2009 and with the opportunity of new ventures for the playcare.

WAVE was formed in 1991 from a small nucleus of eight women, all of whom had lost their partner in the Troubles/Conflict in Northern Ireland. Initially the acronym ‘WAVE’ stood for Widows Against Violence Empower, as the objective of the organisation was to empower women whose husbands or partners were murdered. The women chose a lighthouse as the corporate logo as they wanted WAVE to become a beacon of light for many people coping with the aftermath of traumatic bereavement and/or injury as a result of conflict. Today WAVE is the largest cross community victims’ group in Northern Ireland, with five centres and 15 satellite projects, spread across the country. It is to the credit of all those involved that it has grown so successfully from what amounted to very modest beginnings. The organisation was formed relatively late in the Troubles in response to specific need. Whilst initially concerned with the bereaved, in 1995 the remit was expanded to include those who were injured and/or traumatised in the Troubles/Conflict in Northern Ireland.

We are a Community Interest Company based at 3-7 Hannahstown Rd, Lisburn BT28 3TB. WE deliver an educational and mental wellbeing service to youth and adult off road riders. We offer training for novice youth / adult off road riders. We cover all aspects of off road riding, MX, Trials and Enduro and deliver this province wide with additional locations in Craigavon, Newry and Newtownards. We specialise in Trials and Hard Enduro and offer 1 to 1 and small group training packages. For further details please get in touch. Our ethos is Technique over Speed, we believe that before you can ride fast you must first master how to ride slowly. Our training track is a technical turn track designed to keep the riders thinking and help to develop there confidence and technique. We also run events specifically aimed at the novice riders to introduce them to the world of Enduro, we achieve this by ensuring everything is relaxed and we encourage a competitive spirit amonsgt the riders. Keep an eye on our Facebook page for updates on upcoming events. All riders are welcome and please ensure you are in possession of the correct riding PPE and your machinery is fit for purpose. All under 18s must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. The mental well being and mental health is vital within our communities and off road motorcycling is a proven release for many, we are also helping to keep our communities safer by providing a controlled environment for off-road motorcycling.

Northern Ireland has experienced conflict. But our schools are not some sort of quaint relic from a divided past.
