The NPLQ covers all elements of Pool Rescue Techniques, Lifeguarding Theory, First Aid and CPR. The course is physically demanding and will include swimming to set times, lifting casualties and diving to the deepest part of the swimming pool. Training and assessment for the NPLQ is in three sections and all must be successfully passed to attain the qualification.

About We believe the future needs people-centred designers to make the world a better place. A brief history of Design Club 2021 2020 2019 2018 2017 2022 Slow start to the year after a pre-Christmas rise in Covid cases. With heavy (but hopeful) hearts, we made the decision to shift focus. Our new strategy is to create a curated directory of design tools for kids - products, projects and programmes that get kids doing design and design thinking. 2021 We're rebooting! Looking for Reboot Supporters to fund 2021/2022 activity. We've learned a lot from our first remote after school Design Club. And partnered with Multiverse and Future to reach new audiences, online and IRL. 2020 We started the year with new after school clubs in Coventry, Haslemere and Woking, and exciting plans for weekend clubs, but we had to hit pause due to Covid. We experimented with online delivery and invited parents to run design projects at home. Bright spots: Elsewhen ran a remote club and we got a bit of funding from Grant for the Web (which enabled us to think about how to reboot Design Club. 2019 We supported mentors to run 15 after school clubs, including the first Design Clubs outside London, in Blackpool and Dundee. You can Meet the mentors on our blog. Our weekend squad ran pop-up clubs at Science Museum, Kingston University and MozFest. Reached 500 children and had more than 800 people register an interest in mentoring. Started hosting peer-led Meetups and recognised our Super Mentors. Won funding from The Funding Network. And Growth Supporters helped us grow. 2018 We set up as a Community Interest Company in April. We're limited by guarantee, meaning all profits go back into growing Design Club. Founding supporters came on board. Reached more than 500 children through a mix of after school and weekend clubs. Ran our first mentor Meetups and got accepted as one of Makerversity's Makers with a Mission. Partnered with BMJ, WIRED and Token Dad to try new formats. 2017 We piloted our first after school Design Club. Reached over 150 children through a network of 50 volunteers. Partnered with Marvel and Moo to develop the learning experience. Partnered with CoderDojo and iOi to deliver weekend Design Clubs. Partnered with British Council to deliver Design Thinking mentor training. How Design Club is free We're a Community Interest Company limited by Guarantee This means we're a non-profit. We've raised some money through grants from The Funding Network, Mozilla and Grant for the Web. We're also backed by the design industry to inspire the next generation of design thinking. ENCOUNTERS 2019 EDITION It has been a decade since Encounters became an Open House. This milestone has provoked much reflection. Why is Encounters important? What did we do? What are the characteristics of a successful Open House? The book Encountering Encounters tells how our Open House was created with the goal of sharing an artistic dream with the people that visit the Brighton Festival each year. Our intent was to bring exceptional artists from overseas to mingle with local artists and makers, thereby creating opportunities for encounters that would not otherwise occur. We sought to facilitate encounters through the appreciation of art, thereby forging new connections between people. Encounters’ mission is to make a distinctive contribution to a city that is imbued with a deep artistic culture. Encounters believes in the democratisation of art. Today, this can be realised in new ways. The art Industry is impacted by social and technological innovation, creating never-before-available opportunities. We strive to be a trend-setting pioneer in bringing innovation practices to enrich encounters between viewers, artists, galleries, institutions and collectors. We use unusual art settings and adopt an inclusive curatorial practice to promote social engagement. We recognise that institutions and galleries play a vital role in art appreciation but they can be distant and overwhelming. Encounters is committed to fight against a belief that the appreciation of art is an elitist pursuit confined to a privileged few. This vision, mission and values have enchanted many visitors. Encounters is the most consistently successful Open House in the 35-year history of the Artists Open House Movement, being the winner or in the top three of all open houses for five years in a row. More than 10.000 visitors have enjoyed a unique blend of local and international work. In all, 56 artists from 20 countries have shown a vast and eclectic range of artwork and curated art educational projects. Many of Encounters’ artists come from Latin America, where there is a vibrant, exciting and dynamic art scene. They have brought a new artistic life force to Hove and mingle with our talented local artists who gain from being part of an international show. Encounters has developed beyond the Brighton Festival. In 2015 a new venture, Encounters-on-the-Road, was launched to work with kindred spirits and co-create inclusive art experiences in different parts of the World. Encounters-on-the-Road has shown work from leading Latin American artists in an exhibition in Busan, Korea and, more recently other galleries in the UK and Europe.

Having worked in social care since college, Able Hands Together Founder Laura Tween focussed her work on adults with learning disabilities. After completing her law degree it soon became apparent that the average office environment wasn’t the space for her. She became a social care consultant, and it was through this work that she found her creative energy and passion for community projects was highly suited to being a social entrepreneur. Whilst delivering social care, Laura found that most therapeutic activities for people, like cinema or bowling, were entirely non-skills building. Laura wanted to create an offering where they could learn new skills, build their independence and work on emotional well-being simultaneously. A therapeutic farm service ticked all these boxes. Able Hands Together was established in 2015. The role of the Co-Farmer was soon born, to assist with day to day farm work, building employability, interpersonal skills, independence, and self esteem. Both staff and Co-Farmers work together to care for the animals, & plan and maintain the smallholding to make the most of the growing season. We have just had the exciting news that Able Hands Together has been approved as an Alternative Education Centre by Wiltshire County Council for Co-Farmers aged 18 and over. Laura is immensely proud of Able Hands Together and welcomes you to get in touch. Jason Rhodes Jason Rhodes Director Jason is the Managing Director of Commercial Business at Nottingham Trent University. Jason brings a wealth of business knowledge and advice to Able Hands Together. Jake Tween Jake Tween Director Jake interprets Government Policies on Education to ensure that the advice given by Able Hands Together is of a high standard. He also serves as a great consultant when it comes to the boring paperworky stuff. Nicolette Ann Shears-White Team Member Nic has worked at Able Hands Together for a number of years now and is proud to have a close working relationship with all the Co-Farmers. Having previously been a social worker, Nic is well connected with Hampshire based learning disability professionals and is very knowledgeable about safeguarding and rights. She promotes our Co-Farmers’ independence and works with a skills based approach with our clients. Carl Anderson Carl Anderson Team Member Carl is an ex-member of Her Majesty’s Armed Forces. He brings a wealth of skills-based services to the farm. If something needs to be built, Carl’s the man to do it! Our Co-Farmers love helping him to construct and build everything, from goat gates to raised vegetable beds. All staff that support our Co Farmers have DBS checks, are employed with their employment history and references checked. They are trained in safeguarding, Health and Safety and Equality and Diversity. Staff receive ongoing supervision and have access to further training.
