Our story began in 2001 when our search for an ideal film course led us to create our own boutique film school in a converted church in Fulham Broadway, London. London Film Academy is now internationally recognised as an innovative film school that offers more than just an education in film. Chef Monisha Bharadwaj is an award winning author, food historian and a food writer based in London, UK. Monisha is a qualified chef from the Institute of Hotel Management, Catering Technology and Applied Nutrition, Mumbai. She started Cooking With Monisha, situated in West London, in 2004. Today it is a successful school that attracts not only the home cook but also chefs who wish to learn Chef Monisha’s brand of simple authentic Indian cooking. Monisha has also created and taught her popular courses at the Ashburton Cookery School in Devon, The Bertinet Kitchen in Bath, Seasoned Cookery School, south Derbyshire and at Divertimenti in Knightsbridge. She is often invited to judge food events and has been a judge at the Guild of Fine Food’s ‘Great Taste Awards’ for the past several years. Monisha also holds a BA in Indian History and in 2013, she was invited to be Guest Lecturer at SOAS, University of London, to give a series of talks on ‘The History of India through its Food’. In 2017, she worked with Kew Gardens giving talks on healing Indian ingredients, and with the British Council on ‘How The British Fell in Love With Curry – a historical perspective from 1200-2017’. In 2018, Monisha was invited by the Wellcome Collection, London, to talk about Ayurvedic nutrition as part of their exhibition, ‘Ayurveda Man’ and opened the South Asian Spice Box residency at Borough Market, London, with a cookery demonstration of south Indian food. In 2019, she was invited to be a Guest Speaker on Indian food on a Cookery Legends cruise around the British Isles. She was awarded ‘Cookery Writer of the Year’ in 2003 by the Guild of Food Writers and her many books have been shortlisted for and won several prestigious international awards. In 2020, her book ‘Indian in 7- recipes using 7 ingredients or fewer’ won the Gourmand World Cookbook Award 2020 for the Best Indian Cookbook in the World. Growing up in India, Monisha was brought up on an Ayurvedic inspired diet, where food brought happiness and physical well being. Today, she brings her experience of and passion for ancient Ayurvedic wisdom to all the classes she teaches.

This is a website built and maintained by me, Drachinifel, you may have heard of me from my naval history channel on Youtube (Youtube.com/Drachinifel). Using the income from the channel has allowed me to amass a fair collection of naval photos as well as run ship design competitions that have themselves resulted in a lot of very fine artwork being produced. The purpose of the site is to provide access to this material for any who want to use it. The ship design competition artwork and is provided under the Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs (CC BY-NC-ND) license unless otherwise noted at the request of the creator of that content. The naval photos are provided under the Attribution (CC BY) license, this is based on UK copyright law under which photographs taken prior to 1957 have a copyright of 50 years from the date of their being taken and all the photo’s hosted in this section of the site are either physically owned by me or have been provided temporarily to me with the explicit permission of the owner to host them here. Author of historical fiction and non fiction. I mainly write historical fiction, inspired by what I call ‘the footnotes of history’: forgotten stories or part-legends about interesting people. My first two series are set in very different eras: 18th century China, following the lives of concubines in the Forbidden City, and 11th century North Africa, following the rise of a Muslim Empire across Morocco and Spain. My first novel, The Fragrant Concubine, was Editor’s Choice at the Historical Novel Society and The Cold Palace won the 2019 Novel London award. If you’d like to try my writing, pick up a free novella, The Cup. I’m currently writing a series set in 1st century AD Rome, following the backstage team of the Colosseum. The first book, From the Ashes, was Editor’s Choice at the Historical Novel Society. I also get curious about other subjects and have written non-fiction books including 100 Things to do while Breastfeeding and The Happy Commuter, featured on BBC Radio and in The Evening Standard. I wrote a 20min sci-fi radio play which was chosen for the 2019 Page to Podcast competition and produced by the Pauline Quirke Academy of Performing Arts. You can listen to Fixed here.

Darren Le Baron is an educator, researcher and event organizer based in the UK. Known around the world for his Shroomshop Master classes he is keen mushroom cultivator and teacher. He has been growing gourmet and medicinal mushrooms for over ten years and has translated his home growing experiences into a social enterprise. He is an Organic Horticulturist and Permaculture tutor who supports schools, businesses and so called hard to reach communities around the world to create holistic and sustainable working systems. Darren is a knowledgeable and dynamic speaker who is passionate about sharing his research and findings on ancient African plant medicines, the history and various applications. He is a member and presenter at the London Psychedelic Society, a chair and Breaking Convention committee member. He is also a regular presenter at the Detroit Psychedelic Conference, Ozora, Noisily and Lightening in a Bottle Festivals, as well as numerous gatherings around the world sharing his extensive research on psychedelics and how they can help support humanity in the here and now. Collectively his work aims to inform and empower individuals from diverse backgrounds to cope with social challenges and contribute to community development as well as self-improvement in an innovative, creative, culturally-aware style.

The London NERC DTP is a partnership of eight prestigious research organisations across London, funded by the Natural Environment Research Council. Our aim is to attain new standards of excellence in environmental science research training, and deliver a transformative inter-disciplinary experience for PhD students in the heart of London. We currently fund over 140 PhD students in the natural sciences. Our students are trained at World-leading research centres, which cover a the breadth of environmental science research, from those driven by contemporary environmental challenges to those exploring complex questions about the evolution of planet Earth. Our PhD programme is focussed on eight key research themes: Biodiversity, Ecology & Conservation, Earth, Atmosphere & Ocean Processes, Environmental Hazards & Pollution, Environmental Physics & Mathematical Modelling, Evolution & Adaptation, Past Life & Environments, Solid Earth Dynamics and Pan-disciplinary studies. The London NERC DTP partners are University College London, Birkbeck University of London, King’s College London, Queen Mary University of London, Royal Holloway University of London, Brunel University London, the Institute of Zoology, the Natural History Museum. The DTP is run by the DTP Team, and the Management Board, and overseen by the PhD Committee and Governing Council. We also have ongoing collaborations with a number of non-academic Associate Partners.
