Constantly growing, the Archives’ vast collections include maps, books, census returns, newspapers, records from local schools, churches, clubs, societies and businesses, electoral registers, and indexes to births, deaths and marriages. There are also over 30,000 photographs, plus films, sound recordings, memorabilia and much more. A city landmark, this Grade II* listed building was built in the mid-18th century as a home for the wealthy Molineux family, before becoming a hotel in the 1870s. Having fallen into disrepair after closing in 1979, the building has since been fully restored, with the impressive wood panelled Oak Room and ornate Rococo Room giving a glimpse into the former life of the building.

Our Directors have a combined experience of over 40 years in the healthcare field with our most senior Director having over 30 years alone! He started out with St. John during his time at school, until he joined the RAF Medical Branch where he worked in primary and Pre hospital care settings including training as a Flight Nursing Assistant and served 6 months out in Bosnia attached to 845 NAS as a cas-evac medic working on Sea-king Helicopters. After leaving the RAF he joined the NHS Ambulance service before moving into the private ambulance sector working many frontline contracts around the country as well as working in several A&E departments. In 2012 he set up our first company. We took our first company as a learning exercise and have developed further, we kept our previous clients and have added to our portfolio of clients.

Tours of the house are led by expert guides unravelling the 600 years of history and revealing an excellent country house collection of furniture, art, porcelain and curios. The famous yew hedge surrounds the formal gardens with the wild, Italian and walled gardens beyond, full of colour and interest through the seasons, maintained close to Blomfield’s original designs. BETHLEM ROYAL HOSPITAL BOWLS CLUB Did you know that playing bowls is a great way to get active, meet new people and get some exercise in the fresh air?  You can do all of the above in the picturesque surroundings of Bethlem Bowls Club which is right on your doorstep at Monks Orchard Road. The outdoor bowling season runs from April to October. History of the club Bethlem Royal Hospital Bowls Club was founded in 1936 as part of the Sports and Social Club for male employees of Bethlem Royal Hospital.  A Ladies Section was added in 1970 and over the years the club has opened its doors to friends and local people, both as players and as social members.   It is now a private club maintained by the members, men and women having equal membership facilities.   I joined Bethlem in the summer of 1994 and with several other new members we had tuition on Saturday mornings from a couple of the more senior members.  It was great fun but as I was still working I felt it was a game for the “oldies” to spend their retirement days.  How wrong I was! I have always enjoyed playing at Bethlem despite taking time out for various operations over the years.  It is a fantastic club with a great competitive spirit, a very good atmosphere and excellent social activities.  So, after 28 years I will continue to play at Bethlem Royal Hospital Bowls Club.

Founded in 2011, Jack Raven Bushcraft courses take place in beautiful Westwell, Kent, UK, just 50 miles from the centre of London with easy access by both rail and road. We have access to around 60 or so acres of stunning ancient broadleaf woodland in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.  Our courses in bushcraft, ancestral skills and wilderness living are perfect for anyone who wants to learn new outdoor skills, foraging, herbal remedies, traditional woodland crafts, corporate team building activities or simply having fun with nature. You don’t need any previous outdoor experience to take part in one of our bushcraft courses, or indeed any of our other courses, and the training sessions are entirely hands on so that you leave Jack Raven Bushcraft with simple, practical and repeatable skills.  Not only will you learn valuable bushcraft, survival and outdoor skills, but we’re certain that you’ll have a lot of fun along the way!  Our ancestral skills and bushcraft courses take place in a private woodland with no public access at an expedition style camp on the North Downs, complete with a yurt and wood burning stove, a parachute, a kitchen area, work benches and a composting toilet.  We have areas where you can pitch a hammock, tarp or small tent, cleared of standing and hanging dead wood, or you can camp on a nearby working farm campsite.  It’s the perfect environment for training in wilderness survival skills and taking part in our unbeatable bushcraft courses. Our bushcraft experience courses in Kent offer a wide range of organised outdoor tasks and team building activities covering wilderness living skills, woodlore, camp craft, tracking, earth skills, carving, and wild food and foraging courses as well as a wide range of traditional craft courses.   Our bushcraft and wilderness survival courses vary in duration, some take a day and are more specialised or you can join us for a bushcraft weekend.  For those who would like a truly immersive experience, we offer 5 day bushcraft courses – here you can learn all of the principles and skills needed to get by in the wild.   We place a strong emphasis on natural history, woodland management and conservation throughout all of our teachings as we believe that this knowledge should inform everything we do in bushcraft, both in the UK and abroad.

In 2016, Brunel celebrated 50 years as a university. However, our history can be traced back much further to 1798 through our predecessor colleges of Borough Road College, Maria Grey College, Shoreditch College and the West London Institute of Higher Education and as well as through Acton Technical College then Brunel College. Our rise since 1966 has been impressive and our reputation grows year on year. Now a university of 12,746 students – 3,309 students engaged in postgraduate and research study – our special approach is to combine academic rigour with the practical, entrepreneurial and imaginative approach pioneered by Isambard Kingdom Brunel. The decision to be named after Isambard Kingdom Brunel was taken after much discussion. Rather than name the new College after a location, Dr Topping, the first Vice Chancellor of Brunel University (and former Principal of Brunel College) pleaded that the name should be a well-known person preferably an engineer or scientist associated in some way with Middlesex or Acton. Agreement was reached in March 1957 that person would be Isambard Kingdom Brunel.

The history of how Chikara came about goes right back to 1977 when the founder Sensei Mark D’Arcy 7th Dan started training at the oval karate club, a club led by the late sensei Doug Phillips 6th Dan. Sensei Phillips taught Shotokan karate on the Wirral from the late 1960’s and was a close personal friend to Kanazawa Sensei, during the following years the oval changed its name to Sen-no-Sen under the expert teachings and guidance of the then president Sensei Ronnie Colwell, teaching and classes were of the highest standard in kumite, kata and kobudo. In 1986 Chikara was born and affiliated with the BKA, it’s first dojo opening in pensby on the Wirral. To date Chikara has four dojo’s across the Wirral, Pensby, Upton, Hoylake and Noctorum with 5 sessions a week available. All Chikara members are fully licensed and insured through the BKA. The BKA are full members of the EKF (English Karate Federation) and the WKF (World Karate Federation). The BKA and Chikara provide training opportunities with top class instructors across many styles to compliment our own training. The Association also provides National Championships every year and access to International events via the BKA squad. Chikara has gone through many changes over the years to bring new opportunities and activities to the students, under the guidance of the two Senior Instructors sensei’s Mark D’Arcy (6th Dan) and the late Dave Young (5th Dan), who have both been involved in Martial Arts and more specifically Shotokan karate for over 30 years. Chikara provides training throughout each week with different instructors at different locations across the Wirral.
