The Irish Baptist College was established in Dublin in 1892 by Hugh D. Brown who had close connections with Charles H. Spurgeon, the renowned Baptist preacher in London at that time. In 1964 the College moved to Belfast before relocating to Moira in 2003. Courses provided by the College have been accredited since the 1970s. Graduates of the College are currently located across the globe in a variety of ministry scenarios. In addition to its history, students will also benefit from its location. West of Scotland Football Club (despite the name, which is historical) is a rugby club situated in Milngavie near Glasgow. It is a community focussed amateur sports club and prides itself in being a vibrant part of the local community. Usually simply called 'West' the club provides rugby for all ages from Pre-School right through to our veterans team who should know better......but don't. There is a vibrant junior section with over 260 participants at every age group from P1 to U16 and 6 senior teams (1st XV, 2nd Xv, 2As, U18s and our Women's side and the afore mentioned 'Burnbrae Bulls'. The club also welcomes non-playing members. Run entirely by volunteers, the club is proud of it's 157 years of history but is very focussed on providing a safe, healthy and enjoyable environment for young men and women to learn and enjoy the great team sport of Rugby Union.

Founded in 2020 by qualified art teacher Laura Truesdale, Brushstrokes has already helped over 100 artists learn the skills to create their masterpiece. Each Brushstrokes course is designed to accommodate, grow, and challenge artists at every level. Beginners will enjoy Laura’s encouragement and fun teaching style. Intermediate students will be challenged to push themselves. Established artists will find new inspiration or engage with novel mediums to round their craft. Each week’s lessons build on the week prior, creating habits and artistic tools that will stick for life. Free from institutional restraints, Brushstrokes puts student wellbeing back at the heart of the classes. Laura draws on her background in social work, PGCE training, and over a decade of teaching experience to ensure students are supported. If you want to learn the history of art, the context of a piece of work, build your creative confidence, develop technical skill, brush up on your existing skills, or be inspired, then Brushstrokes Courses is for you. Laura gained her BA in Art from the University of Reading in 2013 and went onto to achieve her PGCE in Secondary School Art Teaching in 2016. Since receiving Qualified Teacher Status in 2017, she has taught in the local community, before establishing Brushstrokes Courses in January 2020.

In 2016, Brunel celebrated 50 years as a university. However, our history can be traced back much further to 1798 through our predecessor colleges of Borough Road College, Maria Grey College, Shoreditch College and the West London Institute of Higher Education and as well as through Acton Technical College then Brunel College. Our rise since 1966 has been impressive and our reputation grows year on year. Now a university of 12,746 students – 3,309 students engaged in postgraduate and research study – our special approach is to combine academic rigour with the practical, entrepreneurial and imaginative approach pioneered by Isambard Kingdom Brunel. The decision to be named after Isambard Kingdom Brunel was taken after much discussion. Rather than name the new College after a location, Dr Topping, the first Vice Chancellor of Brunel University (and former Principal of Brunel College) pleaded that the name should be a well-known person preferably an engineer or scientist associated in some way with Middlesex or Acton. Agreement was reached in March 1957 that person would be Isambard Kingdom Brunel. Isambard Kingdom Brunel (1806-1859) is one of the great British engineers of the 19th century. Isambard was born into an industrious family in 1806, with his mother Sophia Kingdom working for the Royal Navy and father Marc Brunel being a prominent French engineer. Isambard took on formal training as an engineer and went on to build twenty-five railways lines, over a hundred bridges, including five suspension bridges, eight pier and dock systems, three ships and a pre-fabricated army field hospital.To add to this he was a keen social engineer, building housing estates, churches and hospitals.
