A sophisticated society cannot teach everything it knows to everyone. It has to reach consensus on what are the fundamentally important things which all should know, and what can belong to later specialist teaching. There has to be a selection and the beliefs and values of the society will set the agenda. A secular society will inevitably make choices and promote knowledge according to its current understanding of what its people require to be successful and its definition of ‘success’ will change according to circumstances. However, a successful secular education will produce a generation with a secular way of looking at the world. A Christian society endeavours to live according to its understanding of what God requires. Its definition of success is primarily related to how far it is able to live according to those high standards. Its idea of a successful education will be one which produces young people with a Christian worldview. A Christian School is one which starts history with creation and man’s responsibility for what went wrong; one whose mandate is from Philippians 4:8: “whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report;…think on these things;” one which celebrates learning, promotes understanding, and encourages wisdom, not merely the application of little-understood formulae to new situations. Christian Education should provide a whole package for the whole person and lead to success academically, spiritually, physically, emotionally, socially, and even economically. It should result in people who are able to contribute in works of service to the church and to the world. They should be able to spread the gospel and take their place in church and civil life. It should produce fully educated leaders, people who can think originally and creatively and be able to stand up for God’s kingdom in a corrupted world.

History Northwestern State University was established in 1884 as the Louisiana State Normal School, an institution created specifically for the training of teachers, in a time when public education was an increasing priority across the nation. The location of the school is tied to the roots of the city of Natchitoches and is the oldest continually occupied site for higher education in Louisiana. When legislation was introduced in 1884 to create a state Normal School, local civic and business leaders marshaled support to purchase the 100-acre site of a former convent and school and offer it as the site of the new state school. The selection was announced in October 1884 and a short, two-month session began in March 1885 with an enrollment of 60 students. In 1921, the Louisiana State Normal School, which initially offered a 2-year degree program to prepare educators, began offering a 4-year educator degree program and was renamed the Louisiana Normal College. In 1944, the further expansion of degree offerings led to the school’s name being changed to Northwestern State College. In 1970, the college achieved university status and was renamed the title it still holds today: Northwestern State University of Louisiana. Ever-growing, Northwestern State also serves the region at its off-campus instructional sites in Shreveport, Alexandria and Fort Polk. Since its inception, Northwestern State University has had a tremendous social and economic impact on northwest Louisiana and beyond. We started Progress in the Summer of 2012. The brand started in Manchester, England. We take great pride in being from Manchester and the city's culture and history influences a lot of our designs. James Tighe (a then blue belt) started the brand with his close friends and family, all of whom a decade later are still part of the company. We all shared one thing in common, an unbelievable passion for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. We fell in love with the sport and our dream was to one day quit our jobs and work on the brand full time, being involved with the Jiu Jitsu community, to help it grow as much as we could. This dream became our goal. The brand name perfectly represented how we felt about the sport, and us as people. It's all about the Progress you make. We put less emphasis on winning at all costs, and more on improvement. We genuinely want our customers and fans to be the best they can possibly be, on and off the mats, and the essence of our brand is to try our best to make that happen, through our products, our content, our athletes, our projects and everything else we do. StreetLife is an exciting project funded by the UK Government Community Renewal Fund. It explores new ways to revitalise and diversify York’s Coney Street, drawing inspiration from the city’s rich history and heritage and vibrant creative communities, and involving businesses, the general public, and other stakeholders in shaping the future of the high street. The project is led by the University of York in partnership with the City of York Council (including Make It York/My City Centre), York Civic Trust, York Music Venues Network, and creative practitioners including Thin Ice Press. StreetLife will create innovative, immersive experiences combining digital and physical engagement in the StreetLife Hub, 29-31 Coney Street, over eight months between April and November 2022. Look out for a fully functioning historic printing press and print workshops, wide-ranging music and sound workshops, exciting audio-visual experiences and projections, and opportunities to shape and share in the future of the street. A series of collaborative workshops will address the themes of public realm, connectivity, sustainability, adaptive reuse, diversity, equality and access, retaining and developing talent, and rebuilding creative infrastructure. The project seeks ways to restore the historic connections between the street and the River Ouse, make creative, flexible use of high street buildings, and put the local community at the heart of regeneration projects. The project logo, designed by York-based Kaizen Arts Agency, was inspired by the street’s distinctive paving, and represents StreetLife’s connection to Coney Street and to York.
