Music at Glasgow is a lively and collaborative community of staff and students from around the world. We embrace both traditional and innovative forms of music scholarship, viewing music as playing a vital role in a wider social, cultural and political context. Our research spans five main, interconnected areas - historical musicology, performance practices, composition and sonic arts, the music industries and ethnomusicology - each of which informs our degree courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.

Arts Lab aims to identify and encourage areas of shared engagement on which future research strength might be built. It supports and funds a series of interdisciplinary research groups. Emerging collaborations are known as 'Themes' and more established groups as 'Labs'. Since 2020, we have been running a project, led by Dr John Davies, dedicated to cross-College collaboration, and this has generated a number of research teams involving colleagues from Arts alongside those from Science and Engineering; Medical. Veterinary and Life Sciences; and Social Sciences.

STREETWORK’S MISSION STREETWORK BELIEVES THAT VULNERABLE YOUNG PEOPLE SHOULD HAVE THE SAME OPPORTUNITIES AS THEIR PEERS - TO GROW AND ACHIEVE THEIR DREAMS AND, TO DEVELOP AS A PERSON WITH HIGH SELF-ESTEEM Streetwork provides one-on-one mentoring to at-risk 11-18-year-olds, so that they are supported to break their cycle of destructive influences and behaviours, and turn their lives around. Our goals-based mentoring program and the support we receive from our dedicated supporters and volunteers are critical to our success. Streetwork’s Youth Case Management Early intervention and prevention, goal setting and, mentoring are StreetWork’s key focus areas. However, in order for us to successfully address the damaging influences and risk-taking behaviors impacting our young people’s safety, we also work with external, specialist youth services. These services include psychologists specialising in youth mental health and homeless shelters, purpose-built to provide a safe haven from domestic violence. Streetwork’s case management approach enables us to build a community of holistic support, to ensure lasting change and, improved life skills.
