GOOD STUDIO is a risograph print and design studio based in Brixton obsessed with all things print related and RISO particular. Risograph printing has a unique aesthetic invented in 80s Japan as a duplicator for schools and offices, it mimics the screen printing process using brightly coloured eco friendly soy based inks.  GOOD STUDIO was set up by artist Joanna Brinton in 2018 with the intention of promoting conversation and exchange via Riso printing. The studio host regular open access workshops and introductory sessions to introduce others to this fascinating process.  Joanna has a BA Fine Art Degree from Central St Martins College and a Masters in Book Arts from Camberwell College of Arts and over twenty years of practice in printmaking and book design.

We are an independent community art studio based in a self contained annex at the Branksome Centre, BH12 2EA, Dorset. We are a CIC ~ Not for Profit Organisation also known as a Social Enterprise. Company number 09926964 Artisan team is made up of 70 highly skilled, passionate artists with a wide range of abilities and are experienced in working with a variety of exciting media. We were initially funded with a 1 year “Start up Fund” by Arts Council England in 2013 and are now 8 years old and sustainable without funding although special projects are supported from time to time by LUSH and JP Morgan. We thank them for their generosity. We have a beautiful accessible studio with a rear garden, accessible loo and disabled parking. The Founding Director and Lead Artist is Pauline Stanley, BA (Hons) Fine Art, a graduate from Arts University Bournemouth, a socially engaged visual artist and an arts and health practitioner who has worked with many schools, festivals, museums, Pavilion Dance, Bournemouth Arts by the Sea Festival, Artsreach, visiting lecturer at Arts University Bournemouth and also teaches on international cruises. She has a background in nursing in mental health/learning disability.

I really enjoy teaching. The point is to discover people’s real interests, and to help them on to the next step, whatever their current starting point. To make a lot of progress in a short time is exciting for everyone around you. I trained at the Slade School of Fine Art, at London University. I have worked in many schools and colleges throughout my life, teaching on a variety of courses. These have ranged from BA Art and Design to working in a primary school. I taught in a girls college in the USA, at Southampton Institute, and at others in Hampshire and London. I have had single students who needed to develop work for art school courses and exams..Also small groups have often come here to learn techniques and work on ideas. I’ve printed textiles for the Royal Shakespeare Company and English National Opera, and experimented with ceramics. I use photography and drawing to examine and develop ideas. At the moment I am interested in print rather than painting, but it is interesting to combine the two, and see what happens. Video also has its own attraction, and I have tried out projection on moving surfaces, including people, and am still interested in taking that further.

I trained as, and still am, a graphic designer. That bold graphic style comes out in my glass work, but the reason I took up glass was for a creative break from the computer, and to do a practical craft. What I couldn't have foreseen when I took up what I thought would be a little hobby, is how addictive glass is! The day I did a brief taster session I was hooked. Three years later I had completed a postgraduate certificate in Glass and Fine Art at Central St Martins in London, followed by the same qualification again, this time in Glass and Architecture. Those courses and the wonderful tutors taught me a wide range of glass skills, brought me some of the most creative moments of my life, and gave me a group of friends who shared this love of glass, and whom I would later exhibit with as 'Teepee Glass'. As a result I have been fortunate to exhibit in some amazing places, and have completed commissions small and large for a variety of customers. I am a Devon based textile artist creating contemporary textile art inspired by the coast and countryside. With no formal training I took up free motion machine embroidery in 2012 and over time I have gravitated towards textile art, developing my own unique style by using organza and net to give a soft watercolour feel to my work. Working loosely from photographs, but often directly from my imagination, each piece of my work evolves as it is created. I prefer not to use a sketchbook, instead allowing my creativity to guide me as each piece develops. Colour and texture are big influences for me and where possible I prefers to source up cycled textiles for their variety and individuality. I love the idea that these materials can be given a new purpose, and can be appreciated in a totally different way for many more years to come. ECA has always been a place of experimentation and collaboration, celebrated for enabling students from different disciplines to work alongside and with each other, and for creating strong linkages with other institutions. We trace our history back to the Trustees’ Academy founded in the 1760s which, over the course of the next century, operated from some of the most iconic buildings in the city, including the University’s Old College and what is now the Royal Scottish Academy. The first Professorship in an ECA subject area was created for Music in 1839 in the name of John Reid, with the Watson Gordon Chair of Fine Art founded some forty years later, the first of its kind in the British Isles and a turning point in the teaching of the History of Art. Following the establishment of the Reid Concert series in 1841, which continues to this day, the Reid Concert Hall was built in 1859. We’ve been known as Edinburgh College of Art (ECA) since 1906, following a major reorganisation of higher art education in Scotland. At the time, we were governed by the city Council and divided into four Schools: Drawing and Painting, Design and Crafts, Architecture, and Sculpture. We moved into what is still our Main Building in 1909, when the first of our annual Revel parties took place and, by 1913, our Cast Collection had been installed in the Sculpture Court.
