Staff here are passionate about ensuring the very best opportunities and education for all students. We take pride in building strong relationships with students and their families. We have a long history of providing exceptional education to young people. We were founded in 1880 as Prendergast Grammar School for Girls on a site in Catford provided by the Leathersellers’ Company, which then funded the school’s move to its current site in 1995. We are now part of the Leathersellers’ Federation of schools, a group of three secondary and two primary schools as well as Prendergast 6th Form. We are very fortunate to be part of the Federation and receive a lot of support from the Leathersellers’ Company, that helps our students succeed. We are very proud of our last Ofsted judgement of Outstanding in all areas, our third Outstanding judgement in a row. We are described in the most recent report as ‘exceptional’ and having ‘exemplary attitudes to learning’ across the school. We do achieve great academic results at Prendergast School (more information is on the website). However, as a parent or carer you also want to know that your child is happy and safe. This is very important to us and we pride ourselves that students feel confident in school and thrive under our care. It is important that when students leave after their time with us that they do so as well-rounded individuals who have had many different experiences, able to overcome challenges and most importantly to learn from their mistakes. It is important that students get involved in school life as much as possible. We have a wide range of extra-curricular activities and we do encourage all students to get involved. We expect all students to attend school journeys. Communication is very important to us. We always like to know what we do well and what we can improve on further. We ask students and families to get in contact with us if there is something that they would like to ask or raise with us.

Neuroscience of Dance

This project is the vessel through which I teach about the brain mechanisms of dance in a fun, engaging manner so that everyone can access and get the maximum benefits from dancing. Oftentimes, the focus in dance science and dance education is turned to the body, leaving behind it's connection to the mind and brain. Understanding the brain mechanisms in dance can improve performance, make classes more inclusive, prevent injury and optimize both learning and teaching. In the workshops I provide the theory in a dynamic fashion, always applying it to practice promoting embodied cognition and equipping dancers with easy-to-apply techniques. In a fast-paced world where we are often disconnected from ourselves, my focus is to use the body as a tool of learning and give the what and the how in a practical and interesting way. Part of the workshops is dedicated to initiating conversation and exchange insights. Experiencing and sharing experiences leads to greater knowledge that includes subjective and objective aspects of knowing. My approach is based on scientific evidence-based knowledge, my background in dance (performing, teaching), coaching, and mental health experience. By being embedded in academia and being an active student, I keep up-to-date with the most recent information in a constantly changing neuroscientific field. From this project, I have developed my own evidence-based method called Dance Integrated Healing which enhances all the healing properties of dance. Founded by artists in 1977 as ‘Swansea Arts Workshop Gallery’, Mission Gallery has since developed a national and international reputation for presenting dynamic and distinctive programming. Boasting a proud forty year history of delivery and a strong reputation for supporting and nurturing artists, Mission Gallery has taken artistic risks; showing ambitious, diverse work by established and emerging artists across all disciplines, from Wales and beyond. Mission Gallery has a thriving Learning and Participation Programme aimed at all ages and abilities, building strong and meaningful cultural partnerships within artistic and education institutions. Mission Gallery is proud of the important collaborations, projects and exchanges developed with cultural organisations in New York and Venice, building our international work through programming, partnerships and residencies . Housed in a Grade II listed building in Swansea’s Maritime Quarter, Mission Gallery began its existence as a voluntary artist run body, evolving into a professional organisation funded by Arts Council of Wales in 2003. Governed by a voluntary board of directors, the management, programming and running is maintained by a small and dedicated team of staff and volunteers. Mission Gallery has a long track record of successfully forging meaningful and sustainable partnerships across the city, in particular with Swansea College of Art who are key partners.
