Founded by Jules Fallon in 2012, Sew Me Something began as a small sewing class at a local highschool tech room. Workshops were so popular that Jules had no choice but to up-sticks and find her classes a new home of their own. From a quirky little store in the center of Stratford-Upon-Avon (which featured a modest haberdashery downstairs and sewing studio upstairs) Jules opened the first Sew Me Something Store and soon after, created the very first SMS sewing pattern (The Kate Dress - still a customer favourite!). Sew Me Something quickly outgrew the Stratford store and moved again, further into the Warwickshire countryside. Ten years on and SMS business is now an award-winning business, with; a huge range of workshops available, a vast haberdashery, an endless library of exclusive sewing patterns, with an online sewing subscription service and Dressmakers’ Diploma course to boot! With the Sew Me Something pattern library and team constantly growing, so is our commitment to create inclusive sewing patterns that are not only fashion forward with a nod to the classics, but also wearable! Since the 1920s, Morley Exhibitions has been supporting the creative development of Morley’s students and providing cultural engagement across all centres and subjects. Based across nine display spaces at the Waterloo, Chelsea and North Kensington Centres, Morley Exhibitions maintains a regular programme to showcase the talents of the student and staff community. Morley College London is home to artists working across all art forms and at all stages of their careers: students, emerging and established. Our exhibitions programme presents new ideas and different perspectives in ways that are inclusive, innovative and inspiring. Most prominent of our exhibition spaces is Morley Gallery, a two story state-of-the-art art gallery in a converted pub at the Waterloo Centre. Opened in 1969, it is currently in the last stages of a major refurbishment and will reopen in Spring 2021. We’re excited to announce a new programme of shows in the new year. Morley Exhibitions also maintains our important permanent collection of artworks on display around the college buildings. This including murals by Edward Bawden and large installation paintings by Martin Froy, John Piper and Bridget Riley. Also on show are portraits of Morley’s principals painted by Maggi Hambling, a highly valued member of our teaching staff since the 1970s. The process of being creative & the appreciation of creativity in others is, in my opinion, one of life’s great joys. I have been interested in Art of various types for as long as I can remember, and have inherited a passion for making things. My work is mainly in textiles & mixed media, focusing on line & texture." Deb Cooper is a mixed media textile artist and maker from the Northeast of England. Drawn to natural forms, & the beautiful way nature and time ages things. Line, flow & texture, always return as the main themes within her work. Considering the impact of waste and over production Deb regularly uses recycled fibres, found objects and vintage textiles to extend their use. Many of the repurposed fibres have also been dyed with plant materials and rusty objects, often found, or grown on her allotment giving her work a subtle colour pallet. Deb is a proud member of the Society for Embroidered Works (S.E.W.) who promote that “Stitched Art is Art”.

In 2016, I began offering workshops in my studio, located just outside of Coggeshall and a few miles from Colchester. The converted barn provides a creative and supportive hub where I teach groups of up to twelve. Many of my structured textile workshops are taught across one or two days, but I do provide longer, design oriented textile courses and I mentor several groups on an ongoing basis. As my background is in creative textiles all the workshops I offer both in the studio and as a visiting tutor involve free motion embroidery with a design approach. More recently I have begun to take on other textile tutors and I now can offer a much larger range of textile courses including dressmaking, pattern cutting, felting, modern patchwork & Quilting as well as hand embroidery and decorative textiles. As well as textiles I have expanded the workshop itinerary and now offer illustration, lino printing, fused glass and silver clay jewellery on a regular basis with local, fabulous tutors. I hope that regardless of what experience level you have, you will still find something to suit you. So whether you are a beginner or more advanced in your chosen craft, take a look at the full range of workshops available. If you are unsure as to whether you will be able fully participate in a class, then simply get in touch and I would be happy to advise on what is best for you to do. While the majority of the workshops available through this site are based at my studio, I do travel and teach regularly in other local venues and I am happy to go further a field. This allows me to reach more students and collaborate with others, which is something I love to do. I offer a range of structured one and two day workshops to beginners through to more experienced in machine embroidery. Do get in touch if you are a Guild or textile group to discuss your groups requirements and I am a happy to send you a list of workshops I offer. Back to the studio – the current range of workshops will grow over time and I hope to continue offering a wider variety of subjects so if there is something you are interested in but can’t see listed, get in touch! If I have something in high demand, I will do what I can to arrange a workshop around this.
