Sholfins Swim School CIC is a not-for-profit company born from a passion and love for swimming. We are extremely passionate about our community. Our aim is to try and remove as many barriers as possible, preventing our community of Redditch from learning to swim. The team at Sholfins recognise that due to the pandemic there has been a huge impact on children having access to water in their early years. A number of primary/middle schools have also been unable to provide this life skill to their pupils prior to the pandemic for several different reasons, therefore, falling short of the national curriculum requirements, through no fault of their own. Swimming and water safety has been a statutory element of the national curriculum for physical education in England since 1994. This means that every 11-year-old child should leave primary/middle school with the skills to keep themselves safe. Swimming lessons provide all children with vital skills to help with survival and this is no different for children with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND). By 2025, over 780,000 children with SEND will be in the education system. However, inequalities in the ability of schools and teachers to offer high quality opportunities for them to participate in PE, School Sport or Physical Activity still exist, with disabled young people twice as likely to be physically inactive as non-disabled people. The focus on the new revised Ofsted inspection framework is also an area of consideration for schools to bare in mind. At Sholfins we believe everyone should have the opportunity to learn to swim. All of our instructors are Level 2, Swim England qualified and have RLSS Lifeguard, First Aid and Safeguarding Qualifications. TechyTots was established at the beginning of 2017 in response to a gap in the market by mum of two Gemma Murray. Having family members working in this field and after researching the benefits of teaching children coding Gemma was keen to introduce her own children to coding and quickly realized there was nothing available in the early years to develop such skills. It was quickly apparent that there was high demand for TechyTots with lots of schools asking to run sessions and with family sessions being popular. In just over a year the level of supply and demand was so high for TechyTots, the opportunity for the business to grow was clear. TechyTots is now a national franchise providing classes from Tyneside to London. Now run by Gemma’s Cousin Julie Barber, TechyTots has gone from strength to strength. Julie has been a franchisees with TechyTots since 2018, and has a unique perspective as a business leader, she has faced the challenges of a franchisee and devolved a successful franchise with multiple classes running well in her area. Julie now has the opportunity to develop TechyTots and make sure more children are able to be part of TechyTots and learn important Coding skills. Breaking Barriers A world junior sprinter, Steve went on to play for the England Blind Cricket team. He trained with Aston Villa, then fulfilled his lifelong ambition by leading his English blind football team to the World Cup. Steve then set himself an audacious challenge: to become the fastest blind man on the planet. He powered to 2 world speed records on land and sea, then took to the air and found international media fame as the world’s first blind pilot. Steve does have one handicap in life: golf …he plays off 54. The Inspiration As an international speaker, Steve inspires & motivates businesses, organisations and the education sector both nationally and internationally with audiences of all ages. His deeply-moving story takes audiences on his journey from despair to success. We have only been in our building since April 2015. Previous to this the school was on two sites following the Wyre Forest restructuring in 2011 (Bewdley Road site, formerly Blakebrook, and Comberton Road site, formerly Stourminster). We share our campus with St John's Church of England School and Baxter College. Our Early Years Hub includes a Nursery Assessment Class, which can take up to 25 children. We have a state-of-the-art science lab housed within Baxter College. We also have a vocational hub and a Sixth Form which prepares children for life after school. Offsite we run the award-winning Blossom Tree Café in Springfield Park. Our vision is to truly ensure that we meet the individual needs of all children at WFS and prepare them for adulthood. Since the birth of Lifetime Learning, the organisation has grown and further providing more courses. Lifetime Learning’s main source of funding is achieved through Analyse School Performance (ASP) Training and Consultancy. Analyse School Performance (ASP) Training and Consultancy is provided for all schools and local authorities, analysing the school’s performance and progress data. The mission is to provide quality and multifaceted courses in education and training for Early Years, Primary, Secondary, Special, Church and Independent Schools. Lifetime Learning started off providing IT Training to disadvantaged young people in Tower Hamlets. We have successfully grown and now provide over 15 different courses that are open to the general public! Lifetime Learning is dedicated to working with individuals who want to better themselves. Achieving the fulfilment of education and helping individuals achieve sustainable employment in their desired fields is what we strive for.
