In August 2019, Havering Changing was thrilled to join Arts Council England’s Creative People and Places programme. Havering Changing will trial radical new ideas that engage local people in arts and culture in a variety of new ways.

Mission Gallery is one of the most inspiring spaces in Wales for the contemporary arts. A unique, architecturally beautiful space, the building is a rich resource for the local and wider community providing artists at all levels and experience, opportunities to display and make work while developing our audiences enjoyment, understanding and knowledge of art. Founded by artists in 1977 as ‘Swansea Arts Workshop Gallery’, Mission Gallery has since developed a national and international reputation for presenting dynamic and distinctive programming. Boasting a proud forty year history of delivery and a strong reputation for supporting and nurturing artists, Mission Gallery has taken artistic risks; showing ambitious, diverse work by established and emerging artists across all disciplines, from Wales and beyond. Mission Gallery has a thriving Learning and Participation Programme aimed at all ages and abilities, building strong and meaningful cultural partnerships within artistic and education institutions. Mission Gallery is proud of the important collaborations, projects and exchanges developed with cultural organisations in New York and Venice, building our international work through programming, partnerships and residencies . Housed in a Grade II listed building in Swansea’s Maritime Quarter, Mission Gallery began its existence as a voluntary artist run body, evolving into a professional organisation funded by Arts Council of Wales in 2003. Governed by a voluntary board of directors, the management, programming and running is maintained by a small and dedicated team of staff and volunteers. Mission Gallery has a long track record of successfully forging meaningful and sustainable partnerships across the city, in particular with Swansea College of Art who are key partners.

This course will include everything you need to get started with practising Zen. Each week will feature informal talks, practical demonstrations and plenty of opportunities for questions and discussions. Getting Started – looking at what meditation is and how it’s practised within the Zen tradition. In the first week we’ll have practical posture workshops to help you sit with ease and find rest in a balanced posture that suits you. We’ll also look at embarking upon a daily practice and tips for how you can get started practising at home. Turning In, Facing Out – introducing some of the traditions and rituals of Zen and how they might help us to practice together with the space, with each other and with the wider world. We’ll go on to have a look at Kinhin and the practice of walking meditation.

The Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Centre first opened on the 23rd of October 2011. We are a non-profit charity with a mission to make spirituality accessible to everyone. We achieve this by providing a space for the community to nurture their physical, mental and spiritual well-being. Situated in the heart of Edinburgh’s West End, the Centre is accommodated in the splendid surroundings of an elegant Victorian town house. We offer a variety of experiences in the form of workshops, classes, talks, therapies and private sittings. Recently we have been delivering a programme of online events which have attracted people from all around the world.

The popular introductory Herbal Correspondence Course is now run from our herb farm on the Isle of Arran and is an excellent intro if you are interested in treating yourself or your family and also for aspiring herbal students who can use it as an access course for University entrance and to see if the profession is for them. If you decide to enrol Keith Robertson MSc. F.NIMH will be your tutor for your assignments and he has over 30 years experience in the field. We also provide regular practical Herbal Medicine classes on Arran offering herb walks, plant ID, medicine making, botanical drawing etc and these form part of our new apprenticeship programme or they can be booked separately. This site remains an archive for the Scottish School of Herbal Medicine which was founded in 1992 by Medical Herbalists Maureen and Keith Robertson F.NIMH. It rose to almost mythical status as the world’s leading School for teaching a holistic balance of traditional and modern Herbal Medicine and importantly championing an energetic approach to treatment. The School had a world first with its M.Sc. programme and many of today's practitioners benefited from its 4 year B.Sc. programme. Being externally validated rather than being part of the mainstream University system gave us the autonomy to develop courses with real heart (we developed ground breaking research methodologies such as Goethean/Contemplative Science and promoted, for instance, case series research) but in the end, as a small educational charity, we were competing at the height with 7 other Universities!! The market was essentially flooded by 3 year courses and when the recession bit student numbers dropped and we were the 3rd U.K. degree programme to have to close its doors. Intake for the Massage and Aromatherapy courses also ceased. Perhaps however, the School had achieved its main objective – to equip the world with a sizeable number of top graduates who carry traditional and modern Herbal wisdom within a working energetic framework. Many of them now teach in Herbal institutions around the world and so the fine tradition of SSHM carries on. Please see www.nimh.org.uk for further details on professional training in the U.K.

Thistle Aikikai is a member of the Scottish and Borders Birankai under the technical direction of T.K Chiba Shihan. The Chief Instructor, Michael Flynn Shihan began his study of Aikido in 1982 at San Diego Aikikai under the direction of Shihan TK Chiba. He was named Shihan in June of 2005 and was awarded 7th Dan by Doshu Ueshiba Moriteru on 14 January 2018 during the Kagami Baraki celebration at Hombu Dojo. He was formally awarded his Shihan Certificate in a ceremony at Aikikai Hombu Dojo in Tokyo in November 2006 by the second Doshu, Ueshiba Moriteru. He has also received Iaido Shihan title from Mitsuzuka Sensei. Since arriving in Scotland, Flynn Sensei has established the Thistle Aikikai. He serves as the Chairman and Technical Director of Scottish and Borders Birankai. Thisle Aikikai offers beginner through to advanced classes in Aikido and weapons. All are welcome. Instruction in Iaido , the art of drawing the sword and striking a killing blow, is also offered at Thistle Aikikai. In Iaido, students learn to use the sword not merely as a tool for cutting down one’s enemy, but as a method of allowing the mind and body to become more harmonious with nature. During training, students will learn the forms of the Muso Shinden Ryu Iai as developed by Nakayama Hakudo Sensei, with a goal toward synchronizing their breathing and body motions within the techniques in order to understand and practice the efficient use of the body. Our aim is to provide a safe and stimulating environment, where school-age children can develop their independence and can interact socially with their peers, in an atmosphere of positive learning and fun. Each child’s daily programme is developed in consultation with children and parents to nurture their individual interests and potential. Our Story Beaumont Children’s Club was set up by Liz Gallagher and Lorraine Tuite in June 2012. As parents of children in St. Fiachra’s School, we were acutely aware of the need for Pre and After School Care for children attending the school. We consulted with the school, with parents and with children when drawing up a unique model of childcare to follow. Our focus has always been on child-led policies, where the Children decide how to spend their time according to what they like to do, be it arts and crafts, sports, baking, games, reading or knitting, etc. Our Staff have been specially selected for their professional qualifications, their years of experience and their genuine love of children. Our team aim to provide a healthy, happy environment where each child has the opportunity to reach his/her full potential. All staff members have passed the Garda Vetting Process.
