OUR MISSION The European Institute of Peace designs and delivers sustainable peace processes and agreements. We provide practical experience, technical expertise and policy advice on conflict resolution. Based in Brussels and active in over a dozen countries, we combine the operational flexibility of an independent organisation with the diplomatic reach associated with our board and our proximity to the European Union. Our vision is a world where people live in safety and peace because conflicts and grievances are resolved through inclusive dialogue and lasting political agreements. Simone is a contemporary artist, born in London. Simone’s multimedia practice explores the intersections of memory, phenomenology and the experience of the inner landscape. ‘The mind tackles duration as a simultaneous process merging past memory and future projection within a continually unfolding present.’ Henri Bergson Having dedicated a decade to disciplines of Yoga and movement therapy, her work investigates the dichotomy of mind/body as understood by the philosophical underpinnings of yoga as an evolution of consciousness. Simone’s work deals with the workings of the inner world, reflected in natural phenomena. Through photography, video art, drawing and lithography, we travel through sheaths of the outer body to the landscape of the inner body. Moon cycles, tides, solar energies and planetary movements; these cosmic circadian wanderings are captured across experimental media techniques, culminating in what she terms ‘Light Paintings’. They are an act of observation and slowing of time, to view each fragment of the present as interdependent.

The Lewis Dunne Foundation (LDF) provides a community centred approach to children, young people and families. Following the devastating loss of wholly innocent Lewis who was killed by a single shotgun blast as he walked along the Liverpool - Leeds canal in Eldonian Village, Liverpool. At the time Lewis had planned to meet a friend on the night of 15th November 2015. LDF was set up to combat the exploitation and recruitment of Children and Young People into criminal behaviour. LDF aims to restore safer communities that develop Young People who are socially aware and make positive decisions. The Children, Young People and Families across Merseyside are challenged at a local level, where vulnerable and exposed young people are engaging with LDF through the awareness of Gun, Knife and Drug crime. Work is already being conducted with at risk young people who share an openness and key indicators of criminal exploitation. Drawing focus and attention to the negative impact this has on individuals, families and whole communities.

My practice has evolved to include a variety of media. I work with natural inks, watercolours and oils; often combining these with drawn elements, print and collage. Taking a process-led approach through open-ended drawing and painting, my own experience and understanding of nature sustains an individualistic, painterly language. Visualising formal content for abstract work, I allow elements to take their time and rely on my mind’s eye as a guide, unaware of the outcome. Studio experimentation on a range of surfaces generates a family of diverse but connected artworks. This ‘what if?’ process embraces a notion of becoming; something is caught, glimpses perhaps from a kind of reverie, half-dreamed. Often coupling the familiar with the unfamiliar, the paintings I make can be read as a string of things, as a syntax of forms. Analogous to language; the work occupies the space between word and image, voice and brush-mark, sentence and form.

I am a freelance designer-maker, applied artist, crafts-woman, whatever you want to call me – I stitch stuff by hand; fabric, metal, porcelain, leather, vitreous enamel.. . My work is various, it depends whether I am working for myself, to commission or collaborating with other artists. But whatever I do is slow to make; detailed hand stitching in any material whether in silk, linen, wool or wire takes time, consequently my work is also slow to evolve. I decided to show on this site what I do, who I am work with, how I work and also how I think. I want to show the work behind HER WORK not just the finished things. The journey from the first idea, searching, researching, drawing, sampling and eventually making the finished piece. You will be able to watch my work progress, or not; maybe by seeing this record people will come to value making that is manufactured by hand, heart and eye. In May 2010 I developed – Heart Space Studios ( from my yoga practice “Put your Hands in your Heart Space”) and for 5 years it was a space in Bristol England for all things textile. The activities at the studios can still be viewed – I closed the studio workshops in 2015 – the classes remain on this site as part of the blog, they contain many of my most popular posts….. Heart Space Studios continues as a group of makers who develop projects primarily for publishing companies. Most notably we work with designer Kaffe Fassett in the production of his patchwork quilt books and other fabrics.

Hi, my name is Sue and I originally studied botanical illustration, but found it too exacting. Now I enjoy creating characters, and giving them their own lives and adventures. I come from a family of happy campers and I enjoy drawing them too, especially ones that are really part of a family with their own original name. I love plants and small intricate objects like shells and starfish. I like fine details, and I’m especially into ‘shadows’ a botanical illustrative discipline, showing what’s in front. I work in ink and watercolours, and occasionally pencil. I always try and see the funny side of everyhing. There’s always plenty to laugh about if you know where to look, the mirror’s usually a good start. I am a company director and accounts administrator for our family business. But in my dreams, I’m an illustrator. I love creating characters and giving them life on the page. So much so that I’m thinking of giving up the day job and taking early retirement, allowing me more time to travel and draw. I studied botanical illustration at Leicester college and took a certificate at Sheffield University, but now after a serious illness, I’d rather concentrate on things that I really enjoy, as botanical illustration is so exacting. The flowers that I paint now are simplified and I like to give them an outline in ink. I have a bit of a thing about shells and starfish, so there will be more of them on the way. My characters grew out of my illustrated diaries. They make me happy, and I hope that you like them too.

The Association for Science Education (ASE) is an active membership body that has been supporting all those involved in science education from pre-school to higher education for over 100 years; members include teachers, technicians, tutors and advisers. We are a Registered Charity with a Royal Charter, owned by our members and independent of government. We seek to create a powerful voice for science education professionals in order to make a positive and influential difference to the teaching and learning of science throughout the UK and further afield.
