Formby School of Dancing and Performing Arts has been established here in the North West for almost fifty years and is recognised as the best in the area. Our Performance Studios at the Victoria Hall, Formby, are second to none; with a beautiful mirrored Dance Studio, complete with ballet barres and a Harlequin dance floor. Our Theatre and Rehearsal Room is equipped with the latest sound and lighting equipment, which we use regularly in our In House shows. We also offer the use of these in our stage awareness and microphone technique lessons, a must for all our future performers (it's also great fun!). Set in its own grounds with ample parking, you could not wish for a safer environment for your children. Principals Hayley Batchelor-Hannah and Alistair Hannah believe that apart from the excellent standard of training in dance, drama and singing, their popularity is also down to the fact that pupils are nurtured and cared for, from the very shy to the more confident. We give them the time to grow not just as performers but as individuals. Children range from 3-18 years are taught in mixed classes and have the option to take exams, compete in festivals and perform in many shows in our very own theatre.

Camp Crusoe is the quintessentially British summer camp experience where campers feel connected, valued, challenged, and supported. We take having fun incredibly seriously and believe that as modern childhood is all too short we must help our kids make the most of every moment of it. While school work is a vital part of our children’s development, so too is holiday time: Camp Crusoe is very much a fun and adventurous camp and not a summer school! We are the perfect size. There are plenty of opportunities to make new friends with no more than 80 campers per session. We know every camper by name, what interests them, if they need extra support or just an open stage to shine. Over the course of camp, community bonds are forged that last well after campers return home, sometimes a lifetime. Having seen first hand how our American cousins get it so right when it comes to summer camps, we feel it is essential that every child has the opportunity to get away from home each year and enjoy a new environment, testing themselves, trying new things and making new friends, all while having fun in the great outdoors. Too much time seems to be spent cooped up with electronic gadgetry of one sort or another when there is so much fun to be had outdoors, playing with other kids in a safe and controlled setting. Our extensive program of activities from water-sports to drama, archery to photography, appeal to every type of child, offering the opportunity for each camper to grow in confidence, improve their decision making skills and maybe discover a new lifelong hobby. We don’t try to cram too much in and allow just the right amount of time for campers to hangout, make new friends and play together. We are a small, independent camp run by a close-knit team of friends and family who are committed to enriching children’s lives. The core group have many years experience working with children both on summer camps and in the classroom, and are supported by a highly trained and motivated team of camp counsellors, many of whom have worked at camp before and are planning a career working with children. Camp Crusoe is about allowing children the time and space to be exactly that - children. Fun and personal development is our ultimate aim, but we also know from experience how much children learn at camp, both about themselves and about being part of something larger than them. Since graduating from her undergraduate degree from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Bethany has spent 10 years performing professionally on stages throughout the UK and Europe. Bethany also studied at the Royal Academy of Music for her Masters alongside being accredited a Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Music in Singing Teaching. Whilst a student at the Guildhall, Bethany performed in various concerts at prestigious venues such as the Barbican, Wigmore Hall, Royal Albert Hall and began recording as a soloist and ensemble member with Delphian Records.. Since graduating from her Masters, Bethany has performed professionally with companies such as Glyndebourne Festival Opera, Scottish Opera, D'oyly Carte, Norwegian National Opera, Iford Arts, English National Opera Works, Grange Park Opera, Opera Holland Park and Wexford Festival Opera. Bethany has spent most of her career singing classical repertoire, opera and crossover musical theatre. She has been lucky enough to have travelled to New York, Norway, Italy, Dubai, Austria, Prague, Germany and France with her performing and coaching work. Bethany has also extensively toured the UK in national touring productions. Bethany has a portfolio career and when she is not performing onstage, she records sung voiceovers, teaches voice and holds a vocal massage practice. Bethany recently recorded vocals for the national TV advert for Metcalfe's Popcorn, you may also have spotted her singing on BBC, ITV and Channel 4 TV shows such as Jimmy Carr's 8/10 Cats does Countdown and ITV's This Morning. Her singing has been aired and recorded on BBC Radio 2, RTE Lyric FM and Classical FM. Releases on Opus Arte (DVD). Teaching & Vocal Massage Bethany is a qualified laryngeal release practitioner and is qualified in Estill Figure Proficiency. Bethany is experienced in Bel Canto, SOVT and Accent Method Techniques and is always expanding her knowledge on contrasting vocal techniques and styles. She is a fully insured member of Musicians Union. Bethany is based in Olney, Milton Keynes, UK and is a singing tutor at Emil Dale Academy. Bethany holds a small in person private practice at Olney Music School alongside teaching online. Since the covid pandemic Bethany has been able to reach new clients through her informative social media reels on vocal massage and vocal technique. She has been able to teach students online across the world, recently allowing her to hold a pop up coaching and vocal massage practice in France. Bethany has a true passion for teaching healthy vocal technique and guiding her clients towards towards their own musical goals. Bethany has had students go onto train professionally at drama schools, music conservatoires, Musical Theatre youth training programs, National Youth Choirs of Great Britain and to compete in Britain's Got Talent and The Voice Kids.

At the age of three I put on my first dance shoes and no one has been able to get me out of them since! From festivals, competitions, shows, pantomimes, and exams I couldn't get enough. I knew from a young age I wanted to share my passion with the world and therefore was determined to educate myself on how to teach performing arts. There has been much research on the positive effects of music for our health and happiness BBC News reported on research from a University in Montreal Canada (Nature Neuroscience study) 'An experiment by a primary school in England has revealed that music can also help in improving academic performance among pupils. New Delhi: It is no secret that music has therapeutic effect and can help students in combatting stress. Studies have also revealed that music helps in improving concentration.' After successfully completing a PGDE Teaching Qualification in Dance at Liverpool John Moores University as well as a Degree in Dance, Drama and Performing Arts at Edgehill University. I decided to open my own Dance Academy focusing on inclusivity, learning new skills, a love of music and fitness. I pride myself on having an inclusive academy where EVERYONE MATTERS! I continue my professional development in working with children and young people as I am passionate about each of my pupils reaching their individual potential.
