More than just Performing Arts classes for kids Performing Stars Academy offers vocal, dance and acting tuition to children from ages 2 to 19. The school was founded in 2011 by Suzanne Forrester who, after teaching drama, singing and music in secondary schools, wanted to focus on her own vision for learning in the arts. Since then, Suzanne and her team have developed a fun environment in which we nurture talent and creativity. With a focus on establishing confidence, we ensure all students of the academy have the opportunity to fulfil their potential, both on stage and in life. All students of the stage school have the opportunity to perform in a full scale musical production, learning all the skills required to shine on stage. We provide classes in all of the major dance styles including Ballet, Tap, Modern/Jazz, Street, Contemporary, Musical Theatre & Acro. We also have a competition class for those wanting to compete in their dance styles.

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Ellen Marsden as our new director of the Dorset Rural Music School. A former pupil of Chetham’s School of Music, Ellen graduated from The Guildhall School of Music and Drama as an Oboist, playing professionally for many years in leading orchestras in the UK and abroad; she was Principal Oboe of the Royal Symphony Orchestra of Seville for five years, latterly becoming Principal Cor Anglais in the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra where she remained for nine years. In 2009, Ellen was appointed Director of Music at Sherborne Preparatory School, she later progressed to become a freelance Creative Project Manager and Producer developing large scale Schools and Community projects in the South West. Ellen has been living in North Dorset since 2000 and knows the county and its musical scene well. We are delighted to have secured her services and are confident that she will lead DRMS forward into an exciting future without losing sight of our original aims and ethos.

After gaining a Masters qualification in acting and singing at London’s prestigious Central School of Speech & Drama, and with an absolute passion for Latin music and jazz, Katriona began writing her own songs. She has produced five albums to great acclaim and her latest album, Blind Passion, will be released in 2021. Showcasing the many facets of Katriona, who is visually impaired, this 12 track album features her own original songs and celebrates the songs of blind artists such as Stevie Wonder, Jose Feliciano, Diane Schuur and Ray Charles.
