A group of ten like-minded dog owners got together and held an Inaugural meeting May 1985 when it was agreed that an application be submitted to the Kennel Club. Trent Park Dog Agility Club was born and it became the first ‘Agility only’ registered club. In the early days, ‘heavy’ homemade equipment was used – can anyone else remember the annual Paint and Repair days – not to mention the Dog Walk with extendable Tri-Pod legs? We were a group of enthusiastic dog owners who shared a passion for the fast-growing sport of Dog Agility and basically learnt as we went along. There were the usual hic-cups to be negotiated along the way but the Club went from strength to strength. An open evening was held in January 1986 with demonstrations and talks to attract new members. Trent Park Dog Agility Club held its’ first Agility Show at Picketts Lock Centre (before the cinema was built) on September 1986. It consisted of four classes: Starters Jumping and Agility + Novice Jumping and Agility. Entry fees were only £1.50 and class numbers averaged between 50 – 60. Our judges were Tony Veal and Yvonne Tate. Trent Park Dog Agility Club went on to hold an Annual Show until September 2013. The only exception being in 1997, when at short notice, the show was cancelled as it coincided with the funeral of Lady Diana, the Princess of Wales. A donation of £1,367.55 was sent to the memorial fund, being the balance of show entries received less requested refunds and disbursements. Club members also travelled to many local shows, usually in convoy, pre M25. In the early days, all clear rounds ran off at the end of the Class to produce the winner. Much has changed since then. We are now part of the Agility Club league. Currently, Trent Park Dog Agility Club has over 30 training members and a wonderful variety of dogs. We have replaced those old heavy pieces of equipment with up to date kit and aluminium contact gear. The arena’s rubber flooring has been replaced with a sandy substrate. Our members are enthusiastic, supportive and social. It is a great place to come and learn together.

All our dogs in training go through our two levels of training from Puppy Foundations, Core skills and public access to Assistance training through reward based training. There are assessments through our training programme where you will receive a certificate, pin badge, bandana and a rosette as you pass each level. What Our Assistance Training Programmes Offer? Our programmes are in place to support young people and adults through the highly skilled training of our assistance dogs, mobility assistance dogs and psychiatric service dogs. You will have access to training videos and resources year round, including enrichment, handling, emotional regulation charts and much much more on our website with an exclusive members login area. You will receive a booklet of information from tips on how to prepare you and your dog for the journey ahead to grooming, feeding, welfare of your assistance dog, building your bond, laws and public access guidance. It has always been all about dogs. My journey started in a local pet rescue centre where in seven years I have probably seen everything: various pet illnesses, serious behavioural issues, rehabilitation and success cases, you name it - I bet I have a story or two about it. Let me tell you a secret, though: once you become a volunteer, it does not take long until you rescue your first dog. I was not an exception and soon enough Beta joined our crazy family. Now, this is the point in the story where I immersed myself into dog training - my dog was far from perfect. It makes me smile now to remember all the chewed leashes, carpets, mom's shoes (it honestly seemed like Beta just enjoyed the expensive ones best). Oh, do not forget leash reactivity, barking at the house and doors shredded to pieces (I'm still convinced she was aiming for a Louvre worth art piece)! A number of dog psychology and training seminars, workshops, classes and courses were where you would have found me during my free time. At the same time, I started my professional dog show handling career and traveled around Europe showing dogs I trained. It was a no brainer what I want to do when I came to Scotland and so Sky Walks Glasgow was born. Two years later I finished my first diploma with the Institute of Modern Dog Trainers (IMDT) and kept helping people to become the coolest puppy parents! It's my pack and we are Sky Walkers! I was never about simply giving you instructions on what to do.
