The principles of the Academy aims to embed this principle throughout everyone’s journey with GTT by continuous assessment and review of individual progress. Accepting the invitation to participate Everyone involved in the GTT Academy is considered has a student whether this is enrolling and studying an Academy Module, working as a Volunteer or using a Digital Access Point. We are on a mission to bridge the digital skills gap, nurture the next generation of tech talent and fill the jobs required by the tech industry. The future success and prosperity of the economy increasingly depend on our ability to harness talent and to encourage the creativity and innovation of young people. That’s why at Acorn Aspirations we make sure that pupils from all backgrounds, particularly girls and teenagers from underrepresented communities across the UK and globally, have access to technology and entrepreneurship education. This prepares them for the next stage of their lives, be that higher education, pursuing a successful tech career or setting up their own business. Having only launched a year ago we have already worked with over 600 teenagers (aged 12-18) from diverse backgrounds including London’s most underprivileged boroughs, such as Tower Hamlets, Haringey, Tottenham Hale, Barnet, Camden and Southwark. Over 50% of Acorn Aspirations community are girls. At the heart of our mission is to improve social mobility in the digital-technology sector and ensure young people, girls in particular, from underrepresented communities are better prepared for the jobs that do not yet exist.

Enriching lives through learningCraven College – a Further Education College based in Skipton, North Yorkshire, “The Gateway to the Dales”. Our unique position – at the juncture of West Yorkshire and East Lancashire enables us to offer a variety of further and higher education courses, including apprenticeships, undergraduate degrees and part-time adult education. Craven College started life in 1825 as the Skipton Mechanics Institute on the High Street in Skipton. During the Second World War the Skipton Art School and Skipton Technical Institute were established. In 1954 the Skipton Art School and Technical Institution become the Craven Institute for Further Education. In 1974, the College was renamed the Craven College of Adult Education and the full-time courses flourished mainly leading to secretarial work, hospitality and catering, social work and small business management. The Aireville Campus was developed in 1989 adjoining Aireville School (now The Skipton Academy). The Auction Mart Campus was later developed to accommodate all land-based courses and The Aviation Academy was established in Yeadon at Leeds Bradford Airport. Tyro Training was established in 2003 offering flexible training, consultancy and support to business across the North of England. With its HQ at Craven Cattle Mart in Skipton, Tyro Training also has a training base in Scarborough. The Animal Management Centre was opened for students in 2018 with specialist rooms for aquatics, invertebrates, nocturnals, reptiles, amphibians and small mammals. From its premises in Ripon, Evolve supports young people from across North Yorkshire with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties and offers full Study Programmes, with a focus on work experience and skills for employment. In 2020, Craven College became an integral part of the Yorkshire and Humber Institute of Technology – representing significant investment in training resources on the Skipton campus to support education in digital skills such as cyber-security, digital infrastructure, multi-media, software development and gaming.

I am a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) at the School of Computer Science and Informatics at Cardiff University, working on Human-Computer Interaction and Human-Robot Interaction as part of the Human-Centred Computing Research Group and member of the new Centre for Artificial Intelligence, Robotics and Human-Machine Systems (IROHMS). Previously, I was a Postdoctoral Researcher at Horizon Digital Economy Research Institute, University of Nottingham, I worked in the area of Human-Robot Interaction and Human-Computer Interaction. Also, I was part of the EPSRC project "Autonomous Internet of Things", at the Mixed Reality Lab, University of Nottingham. My research focuses on human-robot collaboration, human-computer interaction, Internet of Things (IoT), and a socially responsible approach for designing technology. I am particularly interested in understanding the impact of technology through a user-centred research focus in different contexts, i.e healthcare, domestic environments, factory domains, and the global south. My background is in Computer Science, I received my Ph.D. at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, working at the HumaLab research group, during that time I explored: The impact of novel interfaces to support the self-report of emotions of informal caregivers/unpaid carers. How digital skills affect preferences of interfaces: Tangibles, Mobiles, and Ambient. Technology and social network use in complex contexts, i.e mothers of children with chronic illness, informal caregiver/unpaid carers of dependent elderlies, and isolated caregivers.
