This course has been designed to give you a taste of what it is like to study with us virtually, as well as giving you tailored support for your university application. You will get a virtual art university experience, and a chance to meet some of the lecturers for the subjects you are interested in studying.
You’ll get an insight into how our January-start degrees are taught, how you submit work and how you can develop your skills. This course has been designed to help you feel equipped to commence your studies in January 2025, on one of our January-start degrees.

Experience a live lecture from Jason Hirons, our Course Leader for Distance Learning. This interactive session will give you a preview of what it's like to be part of our dynamic online distance learning course, engage with course content and ask questions in real time.

Session 3 - Wednesday 18 December 2024, 3 hrs / 8:45am - 11:45am
Enjoy an informative and engaging session led by the Adam Levi, our Senior Learning Technologist and all-round expert in tools for digital education. In this session, you'll gain valuable insights into navigating Canvas, our online learning platform, ensuring you feel confident in managing your coursework, accessing resources, and participating in discussions. You'll also have the opportunity to engage in an interactive workshop designed to enhance your learning experience.
As a student on one of our January-start degrees, you’ll join a truly global community of creative learners. This hybrid degree allows you to complete your first year of studies remotely by July 2025, before taking a short summer break and then continuing straight on to the second year of your chosen degree, studying in-person at our city-centre Plymouth campus, in September 2025. This option is available for the following degrees:

You will complete a total of 60 credits, 45 of which are graded pass, merit or distinction. Access to HE – Level 3 Health & Social Care

<p fr-original-style="" style="color: var(--text); font-size: var(--font-size); box-sizing: border-box;">In this series of five workshops, you will work in a group coaching environment with other women/identify as women academics to support your progress towards your goal of a leadership position in higher education. &nbsp;It doesn&rsquo;t matter what stage in your career you are currently at, or how long you have been working in higher education.</p><p fr-original-style="" style="color: var(--text); font-size: var(--font-size); box-sizing: border-box;">The purpose of the five workshops if to help you to establish clear career goals and identify ways to progress in the current academic year towards these, in a way that is personal to you and your values. Workshops run once per month for four months, with a final session after a further four months to explore your progress and next steps. Workshops run on Fridays, 18:00-20:30 GMT/BST online.&nbsp;</p><p fr-original-style="" style="color: var(--text); font-size: var(--font-size); box-sizing: border-box;">The workshops are run by Coach Academic&rsquo;s director and lead coach, Dr Melanie Pope. Melanie has worked in education since 1994, in higher education since 1999, and is currently an Associate Professor at a UK university where she works in an academic leadership role. &nbsp;She has a coaching qualification from the University of Cambridge and is a member of the International Coaching Federation and the Association for Coaching. She is also a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.</p><p fr-original-style="" style="color: var(--text); font-size: var(--font-size); box-sizing: border-box;">Participation is available from any location globally if you can attend at the times indicated. This coaching programme is for aspiring women leaders in higher education, delivered in real time, fully online.  Five workshops have been designed to support you in a group environment to work actively towards realising your professional goals, whatever they may look like, focused on leadership at all levels in higher education. HE needs leaders like you - workshops with Coach Academic will help to propel you to becoming one. For all academics who are female/identify as female. 

During this coaching experience you will explore and learn from:
- your values and beliefs, and how they impact on your professional identity and actions 
- your beliefs about higher education, leadership, and yourself
- your strengths and how to harness them for impact
- your areas for development, and embracing the actions you choose to address these
- your internal and external blockers, and how to manage these
- your motivation - why do you want to lead in HE?

From these you will be able to build your confidence and your leadership identity, and take concrete steps towards becoming the leader you aspire to be.
