I am never happier than when sharing my love of spinning and all things woolly. My forte is long draw spinning, although I teach all methods. I was professionally taught in 1980s and have never stopped learning and sharing my skills ever since. My new book 'Hand spinning - essential technical and creative skills', is the only one in the world that explains long draw spinning at length and in easily accessible detail. It’s fun, fast, satisfying, and the way spinning used to be done before industrial production took over. Hand spinning is not about mimicking commercial yarn; it is about creating your own unique, signature, yarn. Yarn that is fit for the purpose and bears the name of the person who made it. Yarn made in your choice of fibre, using your chosen spinning method, in colours and textures that will put joy into your life. And that is only the beginning... further joys of knitting, weaving or decoration await. However, there is no reason why spinners can't just hang up their yarn for the pure pleasure of seeing it. Unlike a framed painting though, you do more than look at yarn to admire it. You need to touch it, grasp it, dig your fingers in, smell it, feel the sensuous warmth against your face.... As I say, hand spinning transcends the commonplace - my aim is to help and inspire people to discover this for themselves. Here at PQA Bristol, we are super excited about our new projects to kick off 2023! In Musical Theatre and Comedy & Drama our students will be working on skills whilst we begin rehearsals for our upcoming musical of The Little Mermaid, performed at the 1542 Performing Arts Centre! In Film & Television, we are exploring pre-production, storytelling and filmmaking practice whilst taking part in a variety of PQA challenges! Our Poppets will be exploring a range of themed sessions, they will even be making their own Poppets movie! All of our students will be developing their confidence and Performing Arts skills across the range of brilliant sessions we offer! We are thrilled that due to popular demand we are launching our Brand New Friday Academy in May - Book your place at our Free Open Day to experience the Friday Fun! Here at PQA students participate in an array of diverse and challenging modules designed to engage and excite our students- there is never a dull moment! We are passionate about building confidence and developing children's skills in the performing arts while striving to allow each individual to reach their potential! Aerial PerformerHello, and welcome to my site! I am a multidisciplinary aerial acrobat and circus performer. My journey to becoming a professional aerial performer and teacher started after moving to the UK from Spain, where I grew up. It was not until I saw a breathtaking aerial show in 2004 that I knew I wanted to become an aerialist. Shortly after realising I wanted to pursue a career in circus, I joined a 2 year professional full time course in aerial acrobatics in Bristol, specialising in silks, corde lisse and aerial hoop. Straight out of circus school I landed my first ever performing job, a year contract with a traditional circus company in North India, that was both challenging and fascinating. I have never looked back. In 2012 I went back to India to work at Kingdom of Dreams, the first large scale live entertainment theatre in India. The Bollywood style musical shows at KOD feature a fully automated flying system covering an area of 30m x 20m and almost 20 meters above the heads of the audience. I worked there for several months as head of aerial with the dancers involved in the aerial scenes, mainly hanger type harness and silks. The shows at Kingdom of Dreams feature a lot of heavy props flown across the auditorium in conjunction with the performers. Another big circus production I have been part of is Circus Rocks by the Generating Company, a UK touring show around seaside holiday resorts where I performed rope and was part of the aerial and dance ensembles.

About David Thomas David is a highly experienced broadcaster, trainer and manager, with a special interest in communication and organisational skills. He has trained freelancers and other creative people at the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, as well as the entertainment and theatre unions BECTU, Equity, NUJ and the Musician’s Union. He also trains other trainers in how to get the best out of remote learning using Zoom and other online tools. His media training is focussed on charities and NGOs. Clients include Age UK, Mencap, MEND, the Disasters Emergency Committee, the King’s Fund and the Electoral Commission, as well as a range of NGOs at the United Nations. He has been involved in radio and online production for more than 30 years, mostly with the BBC World Service and local radio. His expertise has taken him all around the world, working with broadcasters from Eastern Europe, the Far East, Africa and the Caribbean. He has a keen interest in personal development and professional motivation of others, honed through years as a team leader and trainer. David is a member of the BFI. He is also an Affiliate Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development. His interests are film (especially obscure East German movies), music, and travelling the world with his family.

I am extremely proud to be Principal and CEO of such an innovative, high performing and caring college. After studying at the College over 90% of our students progress into work or higher education. Student behaviour and attitudes at the College are rated as ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted. This results in high levels of success in our wide range of qualifications as well as exceptional student skill development and medal achievements in local, regional, national, and international skills competitions. At the most recent WorldSkills UK national finals our College was the best performing College in England. Students won gold medals in creative media makeup, silver medals in digital media production and visual merchandising, and foundation level students won gold medals in catering health and social care, and motor vehicle skills. College students also won seven gold medals in the Welsh International Culinary Championship. The amazing commitment and high levels of expertise of our teaching and support staff over the last year has been recognised in nominations for a TES national award (for our distance and online learning team) and through two national Pearson award nominations for our beauty and holistic therapies teaching team and for one of our learning support mentors. We have also been awarded chartered status by the Chartered Institution for Further Education, the only organisation in the UK with royal assent to provide chartered status to FE providers. In the last three years, the College has opened two new world class campuses. The College-led MIRA Technology Institute (MTI) is located on the HORIBA MIRA Technology Park and is a learning partnership with HORIBA MIRA, Coventry, Leicester, and Loughborough Universities. Students and apprentices at this campus are building skills to support the disruptive technologies such as electrification and cyber security in the automotive industry. The College’s new Digital Skills Academy located on the Coventry University Technology Park represents part of our response to the fast-growing demand for digital skills in all industry sectors. Over the next year, we will be opening our Centre for Logistics Education and Research (CLEAR) at Magna Park, in partnership with Aston University and industry partner Wincanton. We will also be progressing our plans with Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council to move our award-winning restaurant and a new Digital Innovation Centre into Nuneaton town centre, and we will continue with the redevelopment of our Nuneaton campus into a 21st century digitally enable centre of teaching excellence.

Anna trained at the Deborah Capon College, and was also heavily influenced by her time training and working in America. She was represented by Terpsichore Entertainment in New York and worked within theatre and television. Following this she became the company's UK talent representative, responsible for identifying and guiding talented artists seeking legal employment and representation in the USA. Anna went on to train as a teacher, running her own school, the Hasland Dance Studios, for 6 years, achieving her Licentiate and Fellowship qualifications with the ISTD, and becoming a mutually recognised teacher with the Royal Academy of Dance. In 2015 she became an Approved Tutor for the ISTD and created Anna Morgan Dance, offering bespoke teacher training for the Diploma in Dance Education qualification. Anna spent a number of years on the Ballet faculty at Performers College before joining Bird College as a Ballet Tutor in 2016, and is also the staff representative to the Board of Directors at Bird College. In 2021 Anna joined the teacher training faculty of the Royal Ballet School to deliver their 'Inspire' teacher training seminars in the UK and internationally. Anna is also an adjudicator for the British and International Federation of Festivals, and is on the Advisory Board for the TIRED Movement (Trying to Improve Racial Equality in Dance) Before the pandemic Anna pursued teaching and choreography throughout the UK and America, including choreographing two original works for Bailar Al Sol in New Jersey. Alongside American Company 'United We Dance' Anna is currently involved in pre-production of an original Contemporary Ballet to be performed by a brand new, international company once travel restrictions permanently ease.

Stephanie Burgess aka ‘Marina Red’ is an established zine creator and writer from Cheshire. She is one of the original riot grrrls, having played in punk bands throughout the 90’s. She runs her own fanzine and blog riotgrrrlzine.co.uk, which forms part of her postgraduate research into the Spanish alternative music scene, but also covers Riot Grrrl and punk bands from throughout Europe. She is an old skool paper ‘zine creator, who crafts her ‘zines by hand using collage and a mixed-media approach, creating unique pages and art which are highly representative of punk zine culture and influenced by the Washington Hard-Core Riot Grrrl Scene of the early 1990s. In particular, Kathleen Hanna’s Riot Grrrl Manifesto, which was first published in a ‘zine in 1992. She has written for a variety of online music publications, is a published writer and translator, and also runs creative writing and ‘zine production masterclasses. Currently working towards her PhD “In Search of Spain’s Riot Grrrls” for Manchester University, she has over 20 years experience of both academic study of the writers and musicians of the last century. As a hispanophile with an MA in European Languages and Global Cultures, she can draw upon her deep understanding of the function of language within the creative process and has thus developed her own technique for inspiring others to be creative in a similar way.She is an avid fan of alternative music and has an extensive record collection dominated by female musicians. She can still be found most weekends flicking through the vinyls and CD’s at her nearest music shop or dancing her fishnets off at a punk gig!
