Think of the thing that makes you most happy. When you see it or get involved in it, you light up. That is what creating art does for me. The different commissions I have undertaken have taken me on journeys I might not have otherwise gone on. Connecting with the client and finding out about the reason, motivation and need for the commission sparks all kinds of ideas. My personal art practice often includes playing with a variety of art materials. Whether it's using gouache, creating digital illustrations, using ink and bamboo or cutting into cardboard envelopes to create a scene, there is always some new way to use these materials to express an idea. Biography Originally from the American Midwest, I trained as a Fine Art major, minoring in Art Education. I currently work in Edinburgh as both an artist and an art teacher of young children. All of my art lessons incorporate Art History and the creation of artworks inspired by the work of specific artists or even just a single work by an individual. My professional practice focuses on drawing people, architecture and creating pieces using a variety of art materials. My work has been exhibited throughout the UK and USA, notably the Royal Scottish Academy in Edinburgh and the Barbican Artists Studios in London. I divide my work time between creating illustration pieces for various corporate and private clients and teaching children and adults.

Thompson STEM Engagement (TSE) is an independent venture looking to develop workshops and shows to inspire the pursuit and interest of the STEM subjects. We have been in operation for four years, during which time we have performed multiple shows, attended conferences, and even consulted for a few of the UK’s biggest universities. One of our main goals, in particular, is encouraging Welsh medium STEM education. Since the summer of 2020 we have been releasing weekly bilingual videos to our Twitter and YouTube platforms - check them out here. TSE C.B.C. Gordon House Education Consultancy (GHEC) Ltd was set up in 2007. We have over 40 years’ experience of working as a teacher, education officer, education adviser in Ministries of Education and consultant in the UK (mostly London) and overseas. This unique breadth of experience and expertise means that GHEC has a wealth of knowledge to draw on when undertaking independent investigations which is the area of work we now focus on. Over the past 10 years we have conducted over 50 investigations. I studied Art & Design at Falmouth Art School and then took a degree in Graphic Design & Illustration at Southampton Solent University. I now work as a product developer for a large, international jewellery manufacturer. Most of the work is commercial and not particularly creative. So as a creative outlet I enjoy many craft hobbies such as crochet, knitting and sewing and occasional a bit of illustration. It all started a long time ago… I moved to Germany when I was two and was put into the local kindergarten. I couldn’t speak a word of German, however the teacher, Frau Pfenning began my integration by teaching me to knit – purely by demonstration. When I came back to the UK aged nine, my mother taught me basic crochet and I became adept at making dolls’ clothes using only single crochet – discovering I could shape garments using increases and decreases. She also influenced my knitting style – I am a “pit knitter”, as was her grandmother. As an adult, I didn’t rediscover crochet and knitting until my early thirties – 10 years on and my hobbies have become my passion.
