Hillview School for Girls is a unique learning establishment. Our ethos is built around a broad and balanced education where students are able to explore their interests and talents, whilst making good progress across a range of academic and foundation subjects. Our specialism in Performing and Visual Arts and outstanding attainment across a wide range of curriculum areas enables all of our students to develop their passions within a safe and supportive environment. As a school we strive to support each and every child to realise their dreams and ambitions. We realise that this requires a strong balance between exploring and developing their skills and understanding throughout their learning and harnessing their interests. Our strong pastoral system supports our students in their decision-making, confidence-building and resilience, which will serve them so well in an ever-changing and challenging world. Our mixed sixth form offers one of the widest subject ranges in the local area, across multiple specialist academic and vocational courses. Our curriculum offers students the flexibility to specialise in one area or keep a wide subject base. Our new Performing Arts studio route provides our students with the industry experience to secure their progression into their chosen field or on to university study. We are highly aspirational for all our Key Stage 5 students and actively support their progression onto university by leading them through the application process and developing their transferable, personal skills and independent learning skills to ensure they are successful in their subsequent studies. Students develop their understanding of the local community through varied community and business links and fundraising opportunities. Our new Science HUB, offers members of the community the chance to experience lectures from top scientists, which also supports our students’ exploration into high academic, aspirational career pathways. Our highly active and dedicated PTA offer a range of events throughout the year, for students and parents. Their hard work and effort continues to support our students by providing facilities such as a school minibus or covered seating areas. They are always looking for new members to support their on-going projects. We are entering a new and exciting time, which will see the school moving from strength to strength, building upon our current position as one of the highest attaining non-selective schools in Kent; with 61% of our students leaving with 5 A*-C including English and Maths. Together, as a school, we will be building an outstanding provision for the future, where students will take a highly active role within the wider school development and their own learning journey. Our students access a highly personalised curriculum which enables each individual to progress at a rate suitable to their needs. A student’s successful progression through the school is dependent upon a strong partnership and network and I ask all parents to support their children and the school by promoting positive learning behaviours and engaging their child in discussions about their work.

Rachel Godfrey

rachel godfrey

I’m a poet, prose-poet, short story writer and journal keeper. I write regularly for enjoyment, self-exploration, and as a form of reflective practice, and I’m passionate about the link between creative expression and wellbeing. “I’ve loved stories, poems and language since I was young. I’m fascinated by the different means we all use to communicate with others, and how we strive to overcome the blocks we encounter in our attempts to hear and be heard by others.” — RACHEL GODFREY I'm also a qualified and experienced Creative Writing for Wellbeing facilitator, offering interactive courses and workshops for adults, as well as one-to-one mentoring. I create and hold a space where participants can take creative and emotional risks to express themselves on the page in short (5-25 minute) bursts of 'live' spontaneous writing (poetry, narrative, prose-poetry, autobiographical fiction, memoir, and other forms), in response to a range of prompts. Participants can choose to share their writing and/or to discuss their reflections on the writing process, knowing that anything they do share will be held supportively. I constantly marvel at the diverse pieces generated by a single prompt and a time limit, and it’s a privilege to witness people grow in confidence as they entrust themselves, their writing and their creative process to the group. I have a background in ELT / TESOL (English Language Teaching / Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages), and I’ve been a published author in this field for about 15 years. This work draws on my years of experience as a teacher and teacher trainer, and satisfies my deep interest in the patterns, sounds, and nuances of meaning of English.

Open Newtown

Newtown

Where we came from Back in 2015, the town’s community plan identified our environment and green spaces as important to keep, to make better and to make more use of. In 2016, the opportunity arose for the community to take on the stewardship of 130 acres of the towns parks, open spaces and river frontage. With the support of Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn Town Council this asset was secured on a 99 year lease and subsequent sublease, from Powys County Council. To take this land on – and to work with the community on new ideas and activities – Going Green for a Living Community Land Trust Ltd was formed in 2017. We trade as Open Newtown. Much easier to remember. In 2018 Open Newtown secured a £1.1 million grant from The National Lottery Community Fund Wales as part of their Community Asset Transfer fund to enable it to develop the lands assets and to establish the projects and partnerships that would allow Newtown’s green spaces to be managed in perpetuity for the community. The majority of this funding has been invested in our new community & visitor centre, Hafan Yr Afon. The land is maintained through a Service Level Agreement contract between ourselves and Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn Town Council, to maintain the land to the standards set out in the lease agreement. We are uniquely placed to provide the best value for money on behalf of the community and provide further services in betterment of the agreement, through improved seating, reactive and planned maintenance, Park Ranger services, clearing anti-social hot spots. supporting and leading on new public events, securing 1000’s of volunteer hours, providing training opportunities, all in partnership with local contractors and organisations, along with establishing new relationships with national organisations.

Primary Leap

Ringwood

All over the world, parents, educators, business leaders and experts, are all trying to identify the skills and abilities that young children need to succeed in the future. It is estimated that 65% of children entering primary school today will ultimately end up working in completely new job positions that do not exist yet. The world is changing and education needs to change with it. All children develop in their own way and at their own pace. Our mission is to help children discover their gift, and encourage teachers and educators to nurture it, so that no child is left behind. Our online platform enables teachers to spend more time teaching and less time on administration by replacing tedious paperwork with a digital, easy to use system. This speeds up class planning and keeps material organised, ready to use and impossible to lose! In this modern age where technology is intricately intertwined with our everyday lives, we believe in using technology the right way. No more mountains of folders to sieve through, no more hours wasted trying to retrieve last year’s work... believe us when we say we’ve been there before! As teachers, we know how much time is taken away from doing what we really love. As parents, we understand the desire to give our children the best, and to provide them with opportunities we didn’t have. As people, we know how it felt to lose our confidence at school and the pressure to fit into a box that was not shaped to our needs and talents. We’ve dedicated years to create our PrimaryLeap platform which centres around progressive learning, allowing children to gain confidence quickly and educators to easily detect where a child needs the most help. When we help a child believe in themselves we empower them for life.

Jigsaw Coaching CIC

Liverpool

I’ve set up a community interest company to offer coaching and support to people, including those who wouldn’t normally consider it or be able to access it. This can help them to gain clarity about what they want, increase their resilience and develop an action plan for their future. It’s about 10 years since I first had some coaching sessions, to help me find a new direction after redundancy. I really appreciated being able to confide in someone who was independent of my life, yet committed to my progress. It was very satisfying to have the space to consider what really mattered to me and to explore my hopes and fears. I started to see my situation differently and began to trust myself to follow the direction that seemed to be beckoning me. Years later, a chance opportunity to go to a taster session in coach training led me to enrol on the course, followed by a course in Advanced Coaching Skills. This has helped me to build on the experience I’ve gained in working with people over the course of my career and apply my learning to help others. I’ve worked in a range of interesting projects over the years: Talking to people to find out how work affects their health and helping to reduce the impactChalk heart on bench Evaluating how engaging in live music can help people in healthcare settings Working with voluntary organisations to develop new strategies Implementing research to improve the health of patient groups Interviewing prisoners about their health and social care needs Supporting those with a health condition or disability to find training, volunteering or employment I’ve seen and experienced the benefits that coaching can bring, and look forward to reaching out to people who want to change their life, enabling them to look inside for their own inspiration.
