We are delighted to introduce you to the Southwark Diocesan Board of Education. The SDBE is proud to support 104 schools and academies, colleges and universities across our diverse and vibrant Diocese. Church schools are for everyone. Our vision for education in our schools and academies, colleges and universities reflects the wider Anglican concern for the well-being of everyone entrusted to our care. The outworking of our Christian faith, identity and ethos is to serve the needs of young people and their families in the community as a whole. This has been the commitment of our Church Schools since their foundation, and will continue to be so, by God’s Grace, into a hopeful future. From their offices nearby Southwark Cathedral the superb SDBE staff team are dedicated to providing excellent training, professional advice, resources, guidance and pastoral support. We aim to ensure that our school leaders, governors and chaplains are equipped to give the 42,000 young people in our care the best possible education and life chances. SIAMS and OFSTED inspection outcomes place us as one of the highest performing Diocesan Boards of Education nationally, with our diocesan schools’ performance consistently above national averages. Please explore our site to learn more about the exciting new initiatives taking place in schools across the Diocese, and the opportunities for you to be a part of our diocesan family of schools. We encourage all of us to pray daily for the well-being and development of children and young people throughout South London and East Surrey, including those in our educational establishments.

Love Early Years (originally Ci2eye) is the mission statement of Christian Initiatives in Early Years Education, which is a UK based charity for those working in early years provision. It seeks to inspire, encourage and develop this important work from a Christian perspective. Ci2eye was set up by Ruth Andrews, a qualified early years teacher, who has a passion for seeing young children touched by the love of God. Ruth set about responding to a two-part vision. Firstly she led her local church in opening a pre-school to reach the young children in their community with a practical, real demonstration of the love of God. Secondly, she saw this initiative being transferred nationwide, encouraging Christians to grasp the opportunity to show the love of God in action amongst families with young children. Fulfilling the first part of the vision, Samuels Christian Nursery opened its doors in 1990, and it has gone on to be an example in the neighbourhood of high-quality care for young children. Ten years later, the second part of the vision began to emerge. After encouragement and support from a range of Christian organisations, Ci2eye was launched in 2003 at a joint conference with Care for Education . Ci2eye celebrated its 10th birthday in 2013 with a Celebration in which colleagues from Europe and the United States took part. In 2016 it was decided to refer to our ministry as Love Early Years rather than Ci2eye, because it refers to what we do rather than being an obscure acrostic.

Bradfield College

Founded in 1850 and set in picturesque Berkshire countryside, Bradfield aims to provide an ‘education for life’ fit for the 21st century.Bradfield is a remarkable place which has inspired generations of young people to venture out and make a difference to their world. Set in a stunning location, the College offers a memorable environment in which to discover and develop potential. At its heart the iconic Greek theatre sees the College community meet annually and shake hands in a corporate act of common purpose. The theatre speaks therefore of Bradfield’s tradition – of the handing on of values, of learning, and of ambition. The pupils who thrive here are characterised by their enthusiasm and their participation. Active and curious learners, they engage in the broadest imaginable field of activity and stretch themselves academically, creatively and physically. Through pursuing their passions they both acquire knowledge and develop self-knowledge, becoming resilient and compassionate young people, characterised by integrity rather than entitlement. Bradfield’s outstanding pastoral care is rooted in its house system, beginning for Year 9 entrants in Faulkner’s, which provides a soft landing for transition to senior school. The relaxed unpretentiousness and family feel of the College enable pupils to learn independence and self-governance within an atmosphere of empathy and tolerance. Together these promote the happiness that is fundamental to the ethos of the school.
