SESAW is an independent charity, dedicated to caring for any abandoned, sick or injured animal, domestic or wild. All need veterinary care, some need time to settle or recover from bad experiences before being assessed. Regular volunteers devote time and TLC to look after new arrivals until they are ready to be re-homed or returned to their natural environment. If this is not possible due to health, age or behavioural problems, the animal remains at SESAW permanently or lives in a foster home and some of these animals are available for Sponsorship. SESAW also promotes responsible ownership of animals, including the often neglected issue of neutering. Without the generosity of the public, none of this would be possible.

Taking good care of hand-made items is always important for maintaining their condition. Naturally, something made by hand doesn’t have the same hardiness as factory-made items, so may damage more easily depending on how it’s looked after. Though all the homeware items are able to go in the dishwasher, washing by hand is always best when it comes to hand-made pottery, to avoid breakages. Trying to wash pots after they’ve finished being used and drying them upside down is a good way to maintain a good condition and avoid staining over time, although as many of my pots aren’t very light-coloured it’s quite unlikely that they will get stained

The Calibre programme has been run at North East London Foundation Trust every year since 2015. It was the first NHS Foundation Trust to host Calibre and over 50 members of disabled staff have completed the programme. These include doctors, nurses, specialist clinicians and professional staff as well. Not only has Calibre been beneficial to those member of staff, it has also benefited their managers, senior management and also the way in which disability is now understood at NELFT. Calibre is now integral part of the training offer to disabled staff at North East London Foundation Trust. I am a disabled person from a black and minority ethnic background, and an E&D consultant with fifteen years of experience as a trainer and specialist adviser. I spent twelve years as an academic at the Universities of Oxford, York and Surrey and have written seminal works on the experience of BME disabled people and social care. As a trainer, I have run disability and E&D training courses for Public Sector organisations such as the NHS, the Department of Health and Social Care, numerous Local Authorities, Universities and voluntary sector organisations. Since 2013, I have also run the Calibre Leadership Programmes for disabled staff at a number of Universities and NHS Trusts. If NHS foundation trusts like NELFT want to meet the needs of their disabled staff and see the improvements in their experience through the WDES. A Bespoke Course The course is exclusively aimed at learners with Education, Health and Care Plans. 1 Year Programme The programme will run for 15 hours a week over 3 days and transitions young people into further education or prepares them for the workplace. A Range of Modules The mandatory modules include progression routes which focus on preparing for further study or employment. There is an extensive range of optional modules should a person want to expand their knowledge in a specific area. Functional Skills We offer separate qualifications in both Maths and English ranging from Entry Level 1 up to Level 2. The qualification helps to prepare people for further learning or develop their knowledge and skills in a work-related subject. Functional Skills English and Maths qualifications included where needed, levels from Entry 1 to Level 2. Bespoke course delivered within a small group setting based on preparing to transition for the following academic year. Units can be studied at different levels to support spiky profiles, work-related units in Animal Care, Business and Administration, Catering, Charity and Voluntary sector, Cleaning, Construction, Creative Skills, Customer Service/Contact Centres, Hair and Beauty, IT, Motor Vehicle Maintenance, Retail, Sport and Leisure. Progress into further study at Entry 3 or Level 1 in the vocational subjects studied or into entry level employment in the vocational subjects studied.
