I have 2 amazing children Noah and Phoebe who love to help me out in the kitchen and join in with classes and workshops whenever they can. My wonderful husband Andy shares my passion for cooking and enjoying good food. He has been a sweet chef in a Michelin star restaurant but these days he is kept busy preparing ingredients and washing the pots from the Cook Stars sessions. I come from a family of foodies and food lovers. My mum Marion, introduced me to cooking from a very early age when I would often "help her" in the kitchen. She even used to come into my junior school to volunteer to teach baking and ended up doing this for 25 years!! My brother was also inspired and now owns his own Michelin star restaurant! My degree is in Psychology and Sociology but I have always had an interest in learning about food, cooking and sharing my knowledge and skills. I worked in the hospitality industry as a waitress for many years from part time while going through my education to full time as restaurant supervisor and back to being a waitress while starting out in my teaching career. After graduating I moved to Romania for a short time doing charity work in Gypsy villages particularly working with the children within the communities and helping to feed the villagers by making soup twice a week with one of the heads of the village and distributing it to villagers in need. I worked in a local secondary school for 15 years first as a teaching assistant working in a variety of subjects with students with a variety of needs. I completed my training as a Food teacher in 2005, I have taught a variety of food courses in KS3 and KS4. I was head of the D&T faculty and also worked alongside some local primary schools on a variety of projects. On my return to work after having Phoebe I realised that I needed to look at different avenues to regain my work life balance. Cook stars is the perfect opportunity for me to do this. I can do what I truly love which is teaching Kids to cook and encouraging children to enjoy cooking and learning about nutrition.

Student Leadership and Voice Provision of opportunities for student leadership is a named intention on the whole-school development plan. In KS3, the Fullhurst Pledge provides all students with opportunities to enhance their leadership skills. In KS4, there are a range of leadership roles students can take on including becoming a sports leader, a peer to peer reading buddy or a prefect In addition to this, there are annual events upon which students lead, for example Anti-Bullying Week, charity events and Student Takeover Day. Prefects From the moment students join Fullhurst, we encourage them to aspire towards becoming a year 11 prefect. Prefects are selected on the basis of reflecting the key values of the school. We expect applicants to have very high attendance with exemplary punctuality, exceptional behaviour records and the highest standards of uniform. Similarly, their conduct in and around the college must be beyond reproach. We ask prefects to represent the school in many ways, including escorting visitors on tours of the site on open evening and parents frequently comment that they are a credit to the college. Prefects also provide invaluable support to younger pupils in particular, through supporting staff in their designated roles at lunchtime and helping to guide new pupils through the transition process.

Helen, the Head of Rowan, has worked in education for over twenty years, most of which has been in or associated with, inclusion and behaviour management. Having initially worked as an Education Welfare Officer, successfully raising school attendance in two of the most deprived areas of Scunthorpe, she then worked at High Ridge Secondary School, where she set up and ran the successful Nurture Group. High Ridge became The St Lawrence Academy, where Helen acted as the Lead Behaviour Professional for several years, developing, delivering and training (staff and students) anger management workshops and leading in Restorative Justice Practices, as well as running Summer School for KS2-to-KS3 transition. She then became Deputy Head of a local Alternative Provision, where her hard work, dedication and hands-on management style resulted in both improved behaviour and attendance, as well as a dramatic reduction in exclusions over a period of more than four years. She is a qualified counsellor and was Designated Safeguarding Lead in her capacity as Deputy Head. Helen brings this wealth of experience and skill which, coupled with the expertise and experience of the rest of the staff, will make Rowan Education a unique and successful school. She believes passionately that all children should have the right to education and to achieve their potential and that, with the appropriate support and encouragement, they can do so.

Matt WEston Matt WEston Education Consultant / Director Matt began his career working in industry using his attention to detail for quality assurance purposes, during this time he passed several courses on risk assessing and auditing. Matt has been involved in training, since early 2000s where he set up and provided training programs for individuals in industry. Since starting a teaching career Matt has trained, coached and provided CPD for both ITT and experienced teachers. Matt is a STEM Learning Facilitator and frequently works for Southampton University and St George’s SLP providing bespoke Chemistry and Teaching & Learning CPD for schools. More recently Matt has been working internationally, consulting with governments, industries and universities to develop national curriculums and schemes in Science, Technolog, Engineering and Maths (STEAM). Matt still enjoys tutoring students at KS3 and GCSE Biology, Chemistry and Physics helping students achieve a better understanding of the subjects and an increased confidence to apply themselves. One of the biggest comments from students is “thank you for making me believe I can do Science”. Matt has had a love of the outdoors all of his life and his spare time is spent enjoying bushcraft, hiking, canoeing and cycling. Matt has worked closely with BushcraftUK and Forest Knights and his passion is now to combine his love of teaching with his passion for the outdoors so that new generations can be taught relevant content whilst developing important personal skills including communication, leaderships, problem solving, mental health and resilience.

Smartkids Tuition Centre near Wombourne, Wolverhampton We are a multimedia tuition centre based in Wombourne, on the outskirts of Wolverhampton. Most of our students come from all areas of Wolverhampton, Kingswinford, and Dudley as well as Wombourne. However, we even have children who come from as far afield as Sutton Coldfield and Stoke on Trent! Here at Smartkids, we offer private and small group tuition on a range of different subjects. These include 11+ preparation, ICT, KS1 and KS2 Maths and English, and KS2 SATs practice. For older students, we offer tutoring for both KS3 and KS4 in Science, English, Maths, Humanities, Languages and of course, ICT. As a tuition centre, Smartkids Learning Success Centre is unique because we are also registered as an exam centre. Through us, students as young as 10 sit OCR Level 2 Diploma in Computer User Skills. This exam is aimed at adult learners and is not only comparable to achieving 3 A*-C grades at GCSE, but is also a qualification recognised and accepted by 6th forms, colleges, and employers. We are especially proud of the fact that not only do our youngsters have a 100% success rate at this level, but also, that the average age of our candidates is just 13 years old! The students who come to Smartkids for private tuition are all individual. Some are described by their school as gifted or talented, others are on the SEN register and have specific needs or learning difficulties. Newport Girls’ High School offers an all-round education with considerable strengths both inside and beyond the classroom. We support students academically to achieve their potential, whilst also developing resilience and promoting emotional wellbeing. As a relatively small school, there is a real family-feel to NGHS and our house system affords students the chance to meet peers in other year groups and to participate in healthy competition in a wide range of disciplines. There is an extra-curricular activity to suit all tastes at NGHS and staff work exceptionally hard to provide these opportunities for our students. We also organise a number of key open events during the academic year and welcome visitors to see all that NGHS has to offer. Our curriculum is academically rigorous with all students studying two modern languages in KS3 and separate sciences at GCSE. Some students also study Further Maths as an additional equivalent GCSE. At A-level we offer a full range of subjects to enable progression to university, apprenticeship or employment. Significant support with UCAS applications is available to all. Our pastoral team, comprising both teaching Heads of Year, SENDCO and non-teaching support staff ensure that our students’ individual needs are met and we work closely with families and primary schools to ensure a smooth transfer from Year 6. Newport Girls’ High School was visited by Ofsted in October 2019 for a section 8 inspection.
