Transfer from primary school to secondary school is a time when students often feel both a sense of excitement and of apprehension. Students look forward to a new environment and the challenge of different subjects. They generally approach the secondary school with a determination to work hard and be successful. Early in the school year, the Head of Year 7 contacts every primary school in order to get to know every student and to see the children at work. Thirsk School & Sixth Form College works hard to ensure that early in their final year at primary school, any anxieties or fears are quickly removed so that students feel secure and confident about their transfer to the secondary school. We also offer Enrichment Days for year 5 students to give the children an earlier opportunity to spend time in the school. Liaison continues throughout the year and special attention is paid to the early identification of students with Special Educational Needs. In the summer term, students from primary schools spend a whole week at Thirsk School & Sixth Form College and a careful Induction Programme includes a tour of the school, meeting the form tutor and experiencing a wide range of lessons. Parents or Carers of primary school students are very welcome to visit the school at any convenient time. Formal tours of the school occur most weeks so that parents can see the school during a normal working day. Please contact the school if you would like to attend such a tour. During the Induction Week there is an Induction Evening for parents to ensure they are fully informed and fully prepared to support their child’s transfer into secondary school. Where parents wish students to be admitted other than for the beginning of Year Seven, they are asked to contact County Hall to arrange for an application form to be sent. Parents are asked to contact the appropriate Head of School/College who will then arrange to send them the necessary information and organise a meeting and tour around the school. Once a place has been allocated from County, and the necessary information from the child’s previous school has been obtained. If necessary, we will organise a planning meeting with the family to ensure children settle well.

Established by Jenna Walker in 2013, after a number of years teaching in the North Berwick area, Freedom and Form Dance Training provides an opportunity for students to develop their dance technique, build confidence and make friends in a fun, friendly, caring and safe environment. Based at our own premises at The Lighthouse North Berwick, our qualified teaching staff offer a wide range of dance styles for both children and adults of all ages. We believe dance should be fun and some of the disciplines we teach include: Ballet via the prestigious Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) syllabus. Modern and Tap by Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance (ISTD) syllabus. Acro Dance following the Acrobatic Arts programme. Street Dance, Musical Theatre and much more. Over the years our students have taken exams to a very high level and we proudly hold a 100% pass rate. Our Studio is well equipped with mirrors and ballet barres for hosting dance classes but is also the perfect space for our highly enjoyable Dance Birthday Parties. At Freedom and Form dance Training, we have such a love and passion for dance and hope to pass this on to our pupils daily and to the community we serve via public performances which we are always so thrilled to be invited to.

Our one-day online workshop is designed to equip social workers to produce high quality assessments. Social workers who are new to fostering assessments or those who are experienced will benefit from developing their analytical and reflective skills. Each participant will receive our developed foster assessors pack which includes, Undertaking a Fostering Assessment book, Section A, B and C Exemplars, Health and safety, Safer Caring, Fire Safety and Reference Interview Exemplars. The course follows CoramBAAF guidelines and provides assessors with the knowledge and skills to meet all statutory requirements when preparing and presenting reports to a fostering panel. The course is presented by one of our experienced Training Form F Assessors. To access the course all registered delegates will receive an email containing a link. All that is required is a computer and an internet connection. Delegates will also have the option dial into the session from a phone. This live online session gives delegates the opportunity to ask questions and interact throughout the session. Prior to the training session each delegate will receive an assessor pack.
