In Science we have made use of Labster to give delegates a virtual laboratory to “work” in and explore. We utilise this fabulous knowledge base to ensure everything we get involved in is truly pioneering. AUDE is run by an executive committee of university directors of estates that provides strategic oversight to the organisation. They make recommendations on several of the association aspects such as subscription fees and the annual budget as well as managing the election of office holders. Members vote at the AGM to apply or amend recommendations, and elect the officers. The executive committee meets four times a year, discussing and responding to matters presented by the fellow directors (directly and through regional chairs), and by the executive director and staff team. The committee receives the executive director’s quarterly report, which contains updates from each of the topic-based working groups. The meetings are also used to discuss and act on the organisation’s financial performance throughout the year. Furthermore, the meetings provide a useful sounding board and guide to the executive director, Jane White, and the AUDE team in determining the services provided to members and projects undertaken. The team comprises of five members of staff employed on permanent contracts: Executive Director (1.0 FTE) Projects and Engagement Manager (1.0FTE) Events Manager (0.8 FTE) Communications Officer (0.5 FTE) Events and Projects Officer (0.8 FTE) AUDE is a not-for-profit organisation and receives its core funding from member institution subscriptions and training and development activities. Mick has been doing tai chi for eight years, in that time he has gained much knowledge both internal and external, with very respected teachers. He met his first teacher, Ann Gathercole, under the Longfei Taijiquan Association of Great Britain, she teaches the Yang Style short form, also Chen Style Tai Chi under the Lineage of Grandmaster Chen Xiaowang. He then, after a break away from Tai Chi, found Penang Tai Chi Association who taught the Chen Man Ching Yang 37 step form under teachers Matt & Molly O’Malley but after some thought he decided that he wanted to pursue the Chen Style & found Sifu Clive Spring, who at the time had been teaching for over 35 years in different styles of martial arts, including Chen Style Tai Chi, but after much consideration he wanted to find his first teacher Ann Gathercole again with whom he had been back training with for the last 6 years & has been lucky enough to have also trained with some highly respected teachers along the way. Mick has trained with Grandmaster Chen Xiaowang, Master Chen Bing & Master Chen Yingjun at seminars. Also he has trained with Phil Muil & Emma Westlake who are highly respected teachers who teach the Chen Style & Short Yang Style form at Oxford Chen Bing Taiji Academy. Mick has learned different hand forms and weapons. He has also learned many Qigong forms.

The Unicorn Centre, a registered charity, is a purpose built riding for the disabled facility which offers riding therapy and learning and training opportunities for over 200 disabled adults and children from the Tees Valley area each week. Opened in 1998, the Centre has become an established part of the local community, with a strong contingent of about 100 local volunteers who assist with riding lessons each week. To provide this service we depend on a committed group of staff and volunteers and input from families and personal assistants.With limited funding from user fees, we rely entirely on fundraising and donations to subsidise the cost of lessons. In addition we depend on contributions by able-bodied individuals and clubs also making use of our facilities. The Centre works across the spectrum of disabilities, age range, social status and environments. Our focus is to ensure that each individual is given the chance to derive a direct therapeutic benefit and the opportunity to achieve their full potential; whether that be sitting with support astride a pony and riding down one side of the arena or competing at Paralympic dressage level.
