Yoga Sports Science

Our approach is simple. We bridge the gap between yoga and sport and empower yoga professionals to confidently teach sports-specific yoga to athletes of all ages and abilities, as well as to the general public. We consider everyone to be an athlete, from elite professionals to Mum’s homeschooling their children, to healthcare workers dealing with stressful situations on the front line. Teaching Grounded in Yoga Biomechanics We help prepare our students to work with people of any age and ability through our functional and biomechanical approach to applying yoga. The foundation of our yoga teaching is based on biomechanical principles aimed at empowering yoga professionals to adapt and apply to any setting. Yoga sequencing becomes creative and experimental when a solid working knowledge of anatomy and biomechanics is applied. We Prove Yoga Works For over a decade students that have trained with us, as Advanced Yoga Sports Coaches™ have undertaken a Case Study Research project and contributed to providing evidence that yoga positively improves athletic performance and supports athletes as an injury prevention program. Each YSS Case Study submitted by our students is archived within our YSS Research Index. We have one of the largest research databases in the world on the efficacy of yoga in sport. We Have Exposed the Missing Link in Athletic Training We use a proven, scientifically based methodology, developed over twenty years, to bridge the gap between yoga and sport. Where our yoga training differs from traditional forms of yoga is that we deliver a modern-day scientific approach to yoga, which is evidence-based and understands the sporting demands of the modern athlete. Our Motto: Less is More The art and the science of successfully delivering sports-specific yoga to the general public and/or athletes involve delivering less so they will receive more. Most athletes have to manage grueling training schedules and often are overtrained. This, along with the general pressures of life can mean most don’t get to ‘experience’ a training session. One of the benefits of delivering our methods is that you will provide an entirely different training experience for the athlete, creating time and space which enables them to develop a greater awareness of Self as well as time to recover and restore. Learn With Us Online For the past decade, we have been successfully teaching our yoga Courses online to students around the world. Our Courses are inclusive and accessible to all types of learners through our well established online learning platform. Our students are supported online by members of our Academic Faculty, through regular 1-2-1 tutorials, Live group sessions with peers and tutors, plus a vibrant global community of like-minded people with a shared passion for learning and teaching. The Institute of Yoga Sports Science® is a registered school with the Yoga Alliance and provides In-Service Training Days and short Courses to the British Wheel of Yoga. Members of the senior teaching faculty are based in New York, London, Harrogate, and Pune in India.

Decluttering to Get Organised With an extensive background in Interior Design and Contemporary Art logistics and installations I have a great eye for detail and plenty of solutions for organisation, styling and storage. I aim to create freedom from things and functionality in spaces that have ceased to fulfil potential. This extends to archiving materials such as photographs and documents; decluttering and packing in preparation for a move; unpacking and dressing a new space. My clients may aspire to a goal such as home decluttering with the view to redecorate afterwards. I really enjoy being part of this fresh start and so we can get stuck into the painting and finishing touches together. In the case of a commercial space, this is something I can organise as a service. I have an initial consultation with new clients to assess the job and needs and wants, and then I’ll go away and devise a plan of action. Once you are happy with the plan the exciting new journey begins. Clients may have suffered a bereavement and find it challenging to go through the emotional process of letting go. Other clients may have a tendency towards collecting, or hoarding, and find it challenging to let go due to the relationship between the items and memories. I manage this in my own life and so I have many techniques and fresh ways of re-looking at your objects and what they represent in your life. I will be sensitive and patient. Objects often unlock memories that you need to take the time to process before you let go and I understand that. We are working together towards success in your long-term goals Professional organising and one-to-one coaching are my passions Many clients choose one-to-one coaching. We spend time together focusing specifically on personal goals and ways of achieving them. With most of my clients I aim to introduce movement and light exercise, new hobbies (I teach calligraphy, digital photography, arts and crafts, writing and poetry, easy to follow dance workouts…), dealing with triggers and developing coping mechanisms (relating to conditions such as anxiety), building confidence, tackling difficult social situations and practical advice on areas such as overcoming anxiety before an exam, e.g. driving, job interview techniques, and managing stress. Don’t worry about the light exercise – it is all feel-good factor and nothing to do with training or learning routines. We are going to have fun together. I will make a programme tailored to you and you will be amazed where you can be in four weeks, three months, six months, a year... I have personal experience with PTSD, anxiety, panic disorder and depression. I know these conditions change your life, but they don’t have to limit it. Please do consult your doctor before making changes to your lifestyle. I always follow their advice and medical judgement. If you have any issues with mobility or certain environments (crowded places, loud noises etc.) please do let me know.

We provide a broad and balanced curriculum that offers all students the opportunity to succeed. We focus on teaching students the skills to be effective learners, and to encourage in them a love of learning that they will keep throughout their life. Many enrichment opportunities add to students' experience and development. The work that takes place in the classroom is the cornerstone of the school's success. A dedicated team of well qualified and skilled teachers and support staff provide outstanding learning and teaching for students and our work as a Teaching School helps to maintain and develop further the quality of the classroom experience. Our students are enthusiastic, motivated and ambitious to succeed and maintain very high standards of behaviour and engagement in their studies. They are encouraged to be reflective and creative in their thinking and to become increasingly independent learners as they progress through the school. Achieving Success Every student will need guidance and encouragement and at Seven Kings we aim to meet individual needs by providing the right level of challenge and support to ensure students reach their full potential. We support students with this by focusing on providing quality teaching, responding to their needs to ensure the right level of stretch and challenge. There are a range of intervention and support programmes for those students who need extra help, such as those with learning difficulties. We are very proud of the inclusive nature of our school and aim to personalise learning and teaching so that every student is able to succeed. There is a structured home learning timetable and all students are given a planner to help them organise their time and workload. Parents/carers are asked to check this on a weekly basis. There are home learning support clubs at lunchtimes and after school to help students if they need it. The school also has Learning Mentors to support students and mentoring schemes with both staff and student mentors available to support students. Beyond the Classroom There are many opportunities for students to take part in extra curricular activities at Seven Kings. A large number of clubs and activities take place outside lesson times. Staff are committed to providing different opportunities to enrich the lives of Seven Kings' students. Subject based clubs, such as those in Art, Drama, Music, Science, Sport and Technology enhance the curriculum and many trips and visits support classroom learning. We offer a number of residential trips, to places like Paris, Spain, China, outdoor pursuits and a skiing trip to Austria. Students are encouraged to enter competitions and to contribute to the community in different ways. Our peer committees and student leadership programmes help develop leadership skills and provide opportunities for students' views to be heard. There are termly Music concerts and many Drama productions each year which help students develop their performance skills and their self-confidence. The P.E. department run many school teams and have enjoyed considerable success in local competitions.
