Control Shift celebrates computational arts that explore the messy spaces in-between humans, nature and machines. We bring people together to re-imagine our relationships with technology through dialogue and arts. We live in a world where machines increasingly collect information about us, reducing our bodies and the things around us to streams of data. In turn the digital realm can feel abstract, and out of our control. The stuff of computers and digital infrastructure is often hidden out of sight and huge power imbalances exist around who is making technology and who benefits from it. Yet the impact of our interactions with machines and technologies are very much rooted in the body, materials, and emotions. Through workshops, discussions, installations and screenings Control Shift brings creative and critical approaches to technology. Control Shift 2020 was curated by Becca Rose, Martha King and Rod Dickinson, and you can visit the archive to find out more about the programme. In 2019 we produced ‘You Make the Rules’ which was part of Processing Community Day (a global celebration of ‘art, code and diversity’ initiated by the Processing Foundation). Control Shift Community The Control Shift network is a collective of digital artists, educators, producers, and technologists from Bristol (UK) and working internationally. red brick glass

In 2000 after graduating with a 1st class degree in glass from Edinburgh College of Art Wendy moved into her first glass studio, a small red brick outbuilding in her home in Dorset. Wendy then received the prestigious Crafts Council Start Up Award to purchase equipment to start Red Brick Glass (the glass kiln is still going strong 20 years on!) Wendy worked as an architectural glass artist, collaborating with interior designers and architects to create large-scale glass installations and made small glass work to sell in galleries and shops. After a few years Wendy launched her website (with a new-fangled online shop) and started to run fused glass making workshops. 4 years ago Wendy moved into her new home and studio, a gorgeous barn conversion in the beautiful village of West Lulworth, Dorset. This was a dream come true as Wendy always wanted to live within walking distance from the sea. She still doesn’t take it for granted and walks to get her dose of sea air most days. Red Brick Glass continues to grow and develop. Wendy designed the make at home kits during lockdown 2020 as she couldn’t run workshops and due to their success she now needs a little help in the studio to keep up with orders. Vicki is the brilliant new studio assistant and Wendy’s teenage daughters help out at weekends and holidays (filling up colourful glass pots is the favourite job). We are very grateful to Red Brick Glass customers who have supported us over the years. We are excited for the future and hope you will follow us on our journey.

As a traditional goldsmith with over 20 years of experience, Jasmin’s passion for jewellery design never faded. In Jasmin´s words: As a child I always wanted to become a true renaissance man or, in my case, woman. I dreamed of being a painter, sculptor and innovator living a life solving the mysteries of the world like Leonardo da Vinci or Michelangelo. So I became a goldsmith, learning the ancient art of working with precious metals and intriguing gemstones. During my years in the jewellery business I had the wonderful opportunity to work with renowned jewellery artists, like Wendy Ramshaw, Jacqueline Mina and others to design high-end collections and to make jewellery in every metal I could possibly lay my hands on (palladium and niobium are still amongst my favourites). Ultimately, I discovered my passion for teaching. Through my association with one of the most prestigious jewellery schools in the world (GIA) I have inspired hundreds of students in such far-flung locations as Thailand, Italy and California. With my many classes, I have combined the intricacies of jewellery design with the elements of technology, using the latest CAD/CAM developments, whilst sharing both my joy and undiminished affection for an industry that I have been involved with for all my working life. Today, I still do what I love. I run my own jewellery business, Jaqc Jewellery and Jaqc Jewellery Academy, offer design consultancy, and illustrate jewellery for a variety of companies. Now I want to help you realise your creative ambitions, by sharing my skills and show you how to design, manufacture and illustrate amazing jewellery.

Littleover Taekwon-Do is a family orientated Taekwon-Do club which took up it’s independent status in 2007. We teach ITF Chang Hon style Taekwon-Do and we are part of Authentic Taekwon-Do England. Authentic England is registered with International Chang-Hon Taekwon-Do Federation (ICTF). We are also registered with the British Martial Arts & Boxing Association. We follow a set grading structure that allows steady progression through the art up to black belt level and beyond. The Instructors See our instructors page The syllabus See our syllabus page. Costs We are not a business and try as much as possible to keep training costs to a minimum. Family groups are encouraged to attend. Our current fees can be seen here. We collect payment monthly, in advance, via bank transfer. We ask students to commit to the full month. This helps us manage the class size cost effectively, and regular attendance is essential to making progress. Some fees (e.g. grading fees) are collected via Spond. Sparring equipment is essential for protection when you start sparring. Students are permitted to spar after successfully passing their first grading. See our equipment list for more information. We strongly recommend purchasing gear from Academy Sports in Derby. When you visit Academy Sports please let them know you are attending Littleover Taekwon-Do so they know to provide the appropriate gear. We don’t receive any commission. If sparring kit is purchased from elsewhere we can’t guarantee it will be acceptable for use within LTKD. Please check with us first. Doboks (the white suits we train in) are ordered via your instructor.

I would place myself amongst the more experienced developers in the UK. Any popularity I may have earned has been as a consequence of lots and lots of preparation and treating each piece of work as unique. I’ve never done the same presentation twice. Now I’ve adapted as more and more of my deliveries are on-line. I’ve delivered to large audiences – 3,000 medics from around the world in the Congress Hall in Prague – and small. I became good at speaking to groups when, as a young man, I had to take museum tours for visitors day after day. Many had come just to get out of the rain. I had to understand their motivation in order to connect with them. Presenting I became very skilled at presenting. Along the way I built successes in facilitating groups and helping manage the learning process. I enjoy taking a project through to a conclusion. I’m very thorough and always practical. I bring an understanding of the ‘science’ of learning to the ‘art’ of teaching. I take pride in modelling the methods I promote. I do presentations to different audiences and on different topics. Whether you are from the public or private sector, from a charity, a museum, art gallery or heritage organisation we can offer you training, facilitation and coaching so you can… Storytelling is all about communication. It’s inbuilt, so why not learn to use it to your advantage to turn ideas into actions and outcomes? We met at university at the tail end of the last millennium, on a theatre studies BA. Josh then worked with vulnerable adults for a housing association, whilst developing his skills as a storytelling performer in museums, festivals and schools. Lily continued post graduate studies at Central School of Speech and Drama and gained an MA at Goldsmiths, while devising theatre productions as a director. Our paths crossed again on a project with young actors in Mumbai where we discovered we enjoyed working together. On our return we started to deliver open storytelling workshops as a means to develop our product and explore its uses and applications. Initially, we thought storytelling was perfect for presentation skills and museum tours. Now we also use it to investigate and build understanding with individuals and in collaborative groups as well as to grow connections, values and relationships. Ben Joiner became one of the core team in 2014. We were drawn to his in-depth knowledge and expertise in voice and body-language and his gift to comfortably take people outside their comfort zone. Over the past couple of decades, we have honed our skills and our love of training and coaching. We have stayed curious, and use that curiosity to help us adapt and evolve how we use storytelling to the benefit of contemporary working life.
