Welcome to the Liverpool Hung Gar Kung Fu Friendship Association website. Here you can find information about our club and also about the style of Hung Gar Kung Fu we teach. The word kung fu does not actually mean 'martial art', but instead 'skill that is developed through much time and effort', and our style of Hung Gar Kung Fu will require you, as a student, to undertake a certain amount of mental and physical discipline. To develop this you must have a willingness to learn, to discipline yourself, and most importantly be willing to train hard. school gateEach lesson lasts 2 hours and are developed to increase your fitness, health and vitality. You will be taught techniques and forms (set patterns of techniques) as well as developing strength, speed and balance. The Chinese Lion Dance is a large part of our club and you can also, as your training progresses, involve yourself in this aspect of training. Chinese New Year serves as an important time of year for the school. It's a very busy time in which we undertake a huge diversity of shows around the local area performing the lion dance, dragon dance and martial arts displays. I was interested in making and designing from a very early age and was intrigued by the intricate cake decorations that a family friend made in sugar. I was, and still am, always building and making things with my father who is an engineer and he repaired and made jewellery, so I had a little knowledge of the techniques he used in his loft studio. I studied art and design at Bath college with an amazing group of inspiring tutors and one of the pieces that I used in my application was a flower made from copper which was my first piece of soldering. When applying to universities I was breath taken by the silverware at the Buckinghamshire University degree show an knew from that point I wanted to work in metal. I gained a BA in Designed Metalwork and Jewellery from Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College where I was taught by an exceptional group of tutors who still influence my work today. This took me to become a fellow of the Bishopsland trust where I developed my range of stainless steel and silver jewellery while on the year residential programme. This was an excellent platform for me to learn all about how to start up a business and how to do craft fairs. Pope and Oliver along with the visiting tutors do an amazing job at this very unique programme.

Wendy has worked with ceramics for over 25years. She loves experimenting with different techniques of firing, especially Horse hair Raku. She also likes to explore different forms and makes both ornamental and utility ware. She has been working with kiln fused glass since 2003. She likes to push the boundaries of what can be achieved producing unique pieces of both decorative and useful items. These could be dishes in a wide variety of sizes and shapes, to wall hangers, making many commission pieces. Philip started woodturning full time in 1986 and attended craft fairs for more then 12 years. After a break he started turning again and moved into a craft unit in Hutton-le-Hole, in 2006 with his wife Wendy, a Glass and Ceramics artist. He was accepted onto the Register of Professional Turners in 2006, this was a very proud moment for him, and showed he had reached a very high standard. Over 60 articles published in GMC Woodturning Magazine Philip likes to work with native timber, sourced from a local timber yard and from tree surgeons; this allows him to choose the way it’s converted to obtain the best figuring. Philip work ranges from utility ware to works of art. He produces small to large items which he sells at the shop. along with his workshop.

Or have you recently moved to this rainy country, and need to work on your English? We have a course for you. Babel’s Blessing is a grassroots language school set up in summer 2015. We run affordable language classes for adults in a number of languages that are politically relevant for our communities. The income we get from these helps us to run our programme of free English classes for migrants, refugees and asylum seekers. We see language learning as being about cultural exchange, community building, and a way for members of diaspora communities to reconnect with their/our heritage. In our classes, we talk about politics, culture, art and history through language as it is spoken – valuing street language and varied accents rather than one ‘correct’ version. We apply critical pedagogy methods and principles across all our classes, and we run as a democratic community of learners, where students are actively involved in shaping the learning process. Our teachers are also our team members, administrators, fundraisers, event hosts and blog writers. We are a non-hierarchical organisation and everyone is encouraged to take an active role in the direction of the project.

Batik Experience Days in Derbyshire, UK Try your hand at the ancient art of batik. Using hot wax and an array of colourful dyes to produce textile and paper creations, batik is a fun and unique way to craft. The process of creating batik offers a journey of discovery and surprise. The applied hot wax saves an area of colour which then resists further applications of colour as the piece builds and changes before you. Learn how to develop motifs & pattern with each subsequent application of the waxing and dyeing process and be amazed at what is finally revealed once all the wax is removed! Opened in November 2018, Attic Batik was originally housed in the Market Place of Belper’s historic former public house, The White Swan. Fun active childcare during the school holidays. Energy Kidz Ofsted Registered Holiday Clubs run every school holiday for primary school aged children.In our After School Clubs, we pride ourselves in delivering a fun, happy and safe place for children to freely play with their friends, take part in activities, art and craft, sport, chill out or enjoy the variety of toys and games available. The club is set up to provide a fun and stimulating environment when the child arrives. There are activities such as Lego, puzzles, toys and board games so children can start playing straight away. Children are able to go outside as soon as possible each day (normally once everyone is registered and the playground has cleared). Children are able to flow between the indoor and outdoor area. Children can freely play outside, taking advantage of the school facilities including adventure play areas where they are available. There is also equipment such as skipping ropes and sports equipment, as well as go karts and scooters at some clubs too. Key Stage 1 children are collected or dropped to a designated meeting point while Key Stage 2 make their own way to the club. Parents can pick up at any time up until 6.00pm. All children must be signed out by an adult over 16 who is named on that child’s registration form.
