Welcome to Matthew Arnold School. Welcome to our school website. I am very pleased to introduce myself as Headteacher here at Matthew Arnold School. I have been part of the school community since 2013 as Deputy Head and 2021 as Headteacher as well as a parent of children at the school. During those years, two things have always stood out about the school: Firstly, the students are wonderful ambassadors for the school and their community. Keen to learn and develop their approach to learning, they are never shy to ask questions or to challenge the status quo. Secondly, the staff demonstrate their commitment every day to ensuring our students can thrive in the school, both academically and socially. Our calm and purposeful environment prepares students for the exciting life choices we support them to make at the end of their time with us. Our vision of ‘Success for Everyone’ is central to everything we do at school; from designing the curriculum, to the exciting extra curricular activities and enrichment visits on offer, to the highest standards of teaching and learning. Bath Sword Club, established in 1948 has been a part of the local community for the last 70 years. The club encourages fencers of all abilities and ambitions, and prides itself on its inclusive and friendly atmosphere. We enjoy fencing and promoting all 3 weapons and have a senior club member as a mentor in each weapon to help new members participate in club nights and competitions as they like. Coaching is provided by professional, qualified coaches. Bath Sword Club is a Community Amateur Sports Club (CASC) run by a Committee of volunteers. We employ highly qualified professional coaches catering for all levels, from beginners to potential Olympians and from juniors beginning their journey in fencing to veteran fencers (some of whom are also beginning their journey into fencing!). Our youngest member is 8 and our oldest member still regularly competing is in his 70s. Our club members have a wide range of ability, from those just beginning fencing to those competing at international and world championship level. All are welcome and catered for, fencing is a fantastic sport to engage children and adults alike. Our motto is LEARN, TRAIN, COMPETE – FENCE The club has a tradition of hosting innovative events for the fencing community – the popular Excalibur competition – an annual inter -county competition. Hosting BYC events and this this year introducing a junior Excalibur competition the UK’s only inter-county competition for juniors.

Background The Bassetlaw Action Centre was established as a Manpower Services Commission project in 1983 and was transferred to Bassetlaw Community and Voluntary Service in 1989, who managed the project until it became an independent registered charity in April 1996. From 1989 it has been funded by a number of organisations including, Bassetlaw CCG, Lloyds Bank Foundation, Bassetlaw District Council and Nottinghamshire County Council as a Community Resource, Information, Training and Advice Centre for Bassetlaw. In 1996 the charity consisted of 1.2 full time equivalent staff members and 8 volunteers with 1 significant work stream – the Community Car Scheme. It was also an established local resource agency and training centre offering courses on touch typing for example. As the organisation grew, it developed into an organisation serving the whole of Bassetlaw (hence the name change in 2011 when it became a limited company but retaining its charity status). The Bassetlaw Action Centre today has grown into a major service delivery organisation in the district with 25 staff members and over 80 volunteers. It has many distinct areas of work, including a very well used training resource which offers basic skills training and a range of IT courses from beginners through to advanced. The majority of the work streams of the Action Centre exist to promote the independence of older and vulnerable people including support for people with long term conditions, people with housing issues, self-help groups and people with transport needs.
