The School offers classes in Ballet, Tap, Modern, Contemporary, Drama, Musical Theatre, Jazz and Acro Tec, a form of gymnastic dance movement. All Classes are held at the Queensbury Methodist Church Hall, Beverley Drive, Edgware, Middlesex, HA8 5ND Currently, the syllabi of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) are studied in Ballet, Tap, Modern Theatre and Jazz. Students are coached for examinations from Pre-primary to Advanced level and are also given the opportunity for free expression and improvisation. The LAMDA (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art) syllabus is followed in the drama section. BSPA is a registered LAMDA examinations centre so we are now able to hold the exams at our school. During their time at the school, Students are given the opportunity to take part in School Shows, Boot Camps, Summer Schools, Theatre trips and events such as the London New Year’s Day Parade. The Beverley School of Dancing was founded in January 1961, offering classes in Ballet, Tap, Modern and Ballroom, to boys and girls from 3 years upwards. In 1999, the school changed its name to the Beverley School of Performing Arts, with Drama and Jazz classes being added to the curriculum. In 2009, due to popular demand, singing and street dance were added to compliment the full range of performing arts. In 2021, the school celebrated it’s 60th Anniversary. A memory book was presented to the founder Miss Pear, a Virtual Show was performed and a party with invited guests was held at the Queensbury Methodist Church Hall, where the School has held classes since 1961. 2022 promises to be yet another ground breaking year for the school, with student numbers increasing and exciting new classes being introduced.

ClayKilnCraft is an independent educational and training pottery set in the heart of Crystal Palace, South East London. Started in 2014 by ceramic artist Aliya Rashid giving wheel lessons in her studio for beginners, the company has evolved into a thriving creative space teaching people of all abilities to throw, handbuild and explore their inner artist while improving and building on their skills. After graduating in Ceramics at Camberwell College of Art with a first class honours degree, Aliya fell into teaching by accident after she was recommended by a friend to teach pottery at a centre  for special needs adults in London. ‘It was a very challenging, but rewarding experience. I came away from that summer project completely humbled. I knew I wanted to do more. ‘It started small, with monthly lessons. When my students wanted more I found space in a basement converted toilet! And yes, it was as grim as it sounds. When it rained the smell was… very pungent! ‘I was thrilled to find the shop I’m in now. It’s taken a lot of hard work to get it to this stage. It’s all been done with sheer hard work, doing two jobs to finance everything. This is an independent studio and I’m determined it should stay that way. The atmosphere is relaxed, fun and supportive whatever my students aims are. The studio is looking fantastic and the facilities improve on a weekly basis. ‘As well as core courses and classes for beginners and intermediates, we now offer open access to people of all abilities. The studio helps people to develop at their own pace to make what interests them whether they are hobby potters and just want to relax after a hard days work or they are serious potters looking to sell or exhibit their work. Echo Echo Dance Theatre Company is based in Derry in Northern Ireland where it has its home studios in Waterloo House on the historic City Walls. Echo Echo was founded by Ursula Laeubli and Steve Batts in Amsterdam in 1991. The company worked extensively throughout Europe before moving to Derry in 1997. Echo Echo favours collaborative and co-operative working methods. The company is organised as an ensemble with a group of artists who are committed to long term collaboration and mutual support. Echo Echo creates touring, site and event specific productions, a festival of dance and movement, a programme of artistic residencies, performances by visiting artists and companies, and a wide variety of participatory projects with a broad range of groups and individuals. The style of our work varies greatly. Rather than being defined by a particular aesthetic or idiom, we approach dance broadly as the art of “poetic movement”. We understand that dance has a similar relation to our everyday movement as the poetic use of language does to our normal, everyday speech. Being “poetic” in movement is natural and universal, and accordingly our approach is organically suited to many levels of participation. We do not see a rigid or fundamental distinction between “professional” projects and “participatory” projects. We are committed to high quality artistic practice and to creating numerous ways for people to join in. Echo Echo works with and collaborates with, among others, pre-school children and parents, schools and youth groups, people with learning disabilities, people with physical and sensory disabilities, and older people, as well as with professional dancers, performers and artists from other disciplines. Hello, My name is John Bunyan I teach the Wudang style of Tai Chi Chuan as a complete Martial Arts system. I teach all 5 elements of Tai Chi Chuan: Hand Form Pushing Hands Self Defence Weapons (Sword, Sabre and Spear) Internal Strength I’ve been studying Dan Docherty’s Practical Tai Chi Chuan style since 1990 and teaching in the UK for the last 25 years. I am a certified level 8 Chief Instructor of this style (see resource on the menu for Instructor levels) and a Tai Chi & Qigong Union for Great Britain senior instructor. Students of other styles who want to learn more about the martial side of Tai Chi Chuan are welcome. Tai Chi Chuan We train using the hand form and pushing hands, but we also learn the self-defence applications, which is where the hand form was derived from. Learning the applications also helps with focus when practising the hand form. We use other training techniques such as running thunder hand, pad work, 5 element arm, San shou etc. The Spear, Sabre and Sword are taught as forms with applications. Tai Chi for Health Using the hand form our aim is to offer a series of flowing, connected movements that help improve balance, coordination, posture and circulation. It also helps to relax the mind as well as the body. The hand form is a type of moving meditation. We also use pushing hands. These are partner drills used to train whole body coordinated movements. They are beneficial because you are training to move with your partner, not against them. 8 Pieces of Brocade Qigong is taught to help improve movement in the body’s joints. To stimulate the nervous system and circulation. Students who are practising for the health-giving aspects are always welcome to join in and learn the martial aspects of the art.

THE BLACKTHORPE BARN WAS BUILT ROUND 1550, PROBABLY BY JOHN DRURY WHO HAD JUST ACQUIRED THE MANOR OF ROUGHAM THROUGH THE DISSOLUTION OF THE GREAT BENEDICTINE ABBEY AT BURY ST. EDMUNDS IN 1539. It is timber framed with a vast, striking thatched roof measuring over 30 metres long. The barn’s purpose was to be used for the threshing and storage of grain and it continued as a grain store until 1985. You can read more about the barn’s history here. These days the threshing barn and the surrounding buildings are used for events including the festive craft market at Christmas and other art exhibitions during the year, as well as for weddings in the summer months. Founded in 1999 by Peter and Eileen Jacobs, Cove Park is a charity funded by Creative Scotland, by trusts and foundations and by the generosity of individuals. Since 2000, Cove Park has hosted over 1,500 artists and our former residents include Margaret Atwood, Ann Carson, Abraham Cruzvillegas, Mariana Castillo Deball, Alasdair Gray, Beca Lipscombe, Tom Morris, Ciara Phillips, Elizabeth Price, Charlotte Prodger, Simon Starling, Christos Tsiolkas, Jan Verwoert and Louise Welsh. We develop residency programmes in partnership with leading national and international companies, art schools and organisations, including Varuna – Australia’s National Writers’ House, Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, the Gaelic Books Council, Lolli Editions, Senegal’s RAW Material Company, The Royal Scottish Academy, CCA: Centre for Contemporary Arts, Fluxus Art Projects, The Work Room and more. We host and facilitate residencies devised and led by prominent organisations, such as BBC Scotland, Magnetic North, Cryptic, and Playwrights’ Studio Scotland. Craven College – a Further Education College based in Skipton, North Yorkshire, “The Gateway to the Dales”. Our unique position – at the juncture of West Yorkshire and East Lancashire enables us to offer a variety of further and higher education courses, including apprenticeships, undergraduate degrees and part-time adult education. Craven College started life in 1825 as the Skipton Mechanics Institute on the High Street in Skipton. During the Second World War the Skipton Art School and Skipton Technical Institute were established. In 1954 the Skipton Art School and Technical Institution become the Craven Institute for Further Education. In 1974, the College was renamed the Craven College of Adult Education and the full-time courses flourished mainly leading to secretarial work, hospitality and catering, social work and small business management. The Aireville Campus was developed in 1989 adjoining Aireville School (now The Skipton Academy). The Auction Mart Campus was later developed to accommodate all land-based courses and The Aviation Academy was established in Yeadon at Leeds Bradford Airport. Tyro Training was established in 2003 offering flexible training, consultancy and support to business across the North of England. With its HQ at Craven Cattle Mart in Skipton, Tyro Training also has a training base in Scarborough. The Animal Management Centre was opened for students in 2018 with specialist rooms for aquatics, invertebrates, nocturnals, reptiles, amphibians and small mammals. From its premises in Ripon, Evolve supports young people from across North Yorkshire with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties and offers full Study Programmes, with a focus on work experience and skills for employment.
