So we've put together our 'Bitesize Masterclasses' to help assistants develop and learn from professionals such as Sophie - shorter sessions, same big impact!   Bitesize Masterclass with Sophie Chapman Sophie Chapman EA to Steven Bartlett  Although Sophie initially aspired to be a talent agent, she swiftly realised that her career passions lay within the administrative/operational aspects of working life. Following her graduation in Entertainment Management from LIPA in 2008, she gained extensive work experience across renowned entities such as Sony BMG and Sky One, operating within the spheres of TV, music, radio, and the events industry. Her pivotal entry into a PA role came while supporting musician Eliza Doolittle. After five years, Sophie opted to move home to Liverpool and accept a contract supporting Sir Dave Brailsford of Team Sky. Once complete, Sophie received an offer for a position based in the US with an A-list musician. However, her journey led her to discover her "forever role", providing support to Steven Bartlett. Steven, the Founder and former Group CEO of Social Chain, is a multifaceted individual—a published author, podcaster, entrepreneur, and presently, the youngest-ever Dragon on BBC's Dragon's Den. Sophie has been instrumental as Steven's Executive Assistant, operating on a global scale, in both private and corporate realms for six years.  Kate Wood Masterclass Facilitator  Kate will aid the facilitation of this Bitesize Masterclass, ensuring that crucial topics are covered while prioritising an environment where every participant feels acknowledged, valued, and heard throughout the session. This must-attend masterclass will provide a comprehensive understanding of all the key developments in the latest statutory and non-statutory guidance documents from a DSLs perspective, and how they relate to safeguarding provision in schools and colleges.

LOOKING FOR: ADULT FICTION, NON-FICTION Hannah joined the publishing industry in 2017 after a degree in German & Spanish and a Masters in Translation Studies, with a passion for literary translation. After two years scouting for international publishers and production companies, she then spent four years at Northbank Talent Management, where she represented a wide range of authors including Phoebe Luckhurst, Rebecca Ryan, Marion Todd, Nina Millns and Jonathan Whitelaw. After a year as acting Head of Media Rights at Penguin Random House UK, Hannah joined Watson, Little as Literary and Book-to-Screen Agent in 2024. In fiction, Hannah is looking for excellent writing which marries a strong voice with a compelling plot, across a range of genres. She loves ambitious stories that take her to unexpected places – either in style or setting – particularly if they sit in that upmarket-literary crossover space. She feels just as immersed in an intimate coming-of-age novel as in an incisive family drama or darkly funny psychological thriller, particularly where there’s a fresh approach or something to say about the world we live in. Some of her recent favourites have included Really Good, Actually by Monica Heisey, Open Water by Caleb Azumah Nelson, The Whalebone Theatre by Joanna Quinn, and Wrong Place, Wrong Time by Gillian McAllister. Please note that she is not the right agent for sci-fi, fantasy, action thrillers, YA or children’s books. She is also looking for narrative non-fiction with a beautiful voice and new insight into an experience or place, and is particularly interested in nature writing, memoir, and literary ways into genres such as true crime, history or the environment. Over the years, she’s loved The Salt Path by Raynor Winn, The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls, Seven Signs of Life by Aoife Abbey and The Panic Years by Nell Frizzell. Hannah would like you to submit your fiction as a covering letter, 1-2 page synopsis and the first 5,000 words of your manuscript in a single word document.  For non-fiction, she would like to see:- 1-page synopsis – to give an overview of what the book will offer the reader and how it's different from other books out there on this topic A detailed proposed contents list, including proposed sub-section headings as well as chapter headings – to give a sense of the overall reader journey (this is not included in the word count) (In addition to the paid sessions, Hannah is kindly offering one free session for low income/underrepresented writers.
