Re/Write

re/write

London

I’m Monique Shaw, a career coach, writer, podcaster and brand expert who helps people to rewrite their old stories to create careers, businesses and lives that work. Our stories shape our lives - but we can rewrite them. I’ve rewritten my own story many times to create a life that fits with the way I want to work and live - I founded Re/Write to help you do the same! I started my career in the arts and public sector before pivoting into the corporate world where I spent over a decade shaping marketing, brand, sales and communication strategies. I spent 8 of those years with a Big 4 firm working on rebrand projects, running global campaigns, coaching pitch teams and leading a global sector brand & marketing team. After becoming a parent, I craved a deeper sense of purpose in my work and a different lifestyle. When I turned 40, I took the plunge and rewrote my career story, launching Re/Write and bringing together my love of people, words and self-development with the rigour of my global corporate experience and training. My approach to career change is to work from the inside-out. I don’t focus on job titles, industries or company names, instead I help people to connect with who they are, what they need and how they want to live. We build out from that foundation, right through to creating new habits and shaping the story they tell the world. I’m a qualified Transformational Coach with an accreditation in Group Coaching & Facilitation. I’m a lifelong learner with a Fine Arts undergrad degree, a post-grad in Creative Writing and professional Chartered Institute of Marketing qualifications in Marketing and Digital Marketing. All of these qualifications - along with my professional and personal experience - informs the work I do helping my clients to rewrite their stories. I also work with a not-for-profit organisation, icanyoucantoo running presentation skills and personal brand workshops for smart and ambitious kids form disadvantaged backgrounds because they - like all of us - deserve to write their own stories too. Originally from Australia, I live in London with my husband, young son and 2 rescue pooches. I work with people from all over the world and would love to help you rewrite your story, whatever it is and whatever you want it to be. Curious? Let’s have a chat and explore what you need and how I can help. Monique xx

Providing interactive workshops in the community. I invite you to take part in community events whilst discovering and benefiting from Qi Gong, Meditation, and Sound Healing As well as being good for your posture and breathing! Qi Gong is recognised as a form of preventative medicine and studies have shown that those who practice it experience less anxiety and better moods. There’s no age limit, there’s no right or wrong, there’s just a desire to take part and nourish yourself in a shared environment. Qigong embraces nature and reminds us of the rhythm of the seasons. Movement meditations are designed for the physical benefits of improving posture and breathing as well as exploring internal resistance. The philosophy of Qigong is that nature is our teacher. Each session or workshop explores how to release tension, embrace change and harness the energy of the cycle of Autumn, Winter, Spring and Summer. After a career in Music and the hospitality industry, I re-trained in 2010 in therapeutic sound in the community and then qualified as an instructor in Tai Chi Qi Gong. I continue to study with the Deyin institute in the practice of Tai Chi and Taoist philosophy. Having learned transcendental meditation back in the 80s, self-healing had always been of interest. Having also qualified as a masseuse I have a background in dance and a strong interest in anatomy. I continued to explore using meditation as a means of relaxation whilst incorporating sound healing and movement. My joy is working in community groups with a variety of workshops and sessions I traveled abroad in 2005 to work for a charity in Sarajevo with PTSD sufferers and took some training in this area. I felt drawn to finding ways to help people with trauma to relax and to give themselves time to heal and explore their own physical and emotional journeys. Part of finding a life balance is something we all want to explore. I found the best way for me was a mix of progression in learning as well as in giving and helping charities and worthy organisations. Here’s a list of my contributions. It’s a privilege and not always financially possible but the philosophy is that in giving we receive so it doesn’t always have to be by paying out in money.

Aikido is a modern defensive Japanese martial art founded by Morihei Ueshiba, referred to by many as O’Sensei (Great Teacher). Its emphasis is placed on spherical movement to create dynamic and explosive techniques that render an attacker harmless. Ueshiba's goal was to create an art that practitioners could use to defend themselves while also protecting their attacker from injury. Move like a beam of light; fly like lightning, Strike like thunder, whirl in circles around a stable center. - Morihei Ueshiba Morihei Ueshiba MORIHEI UESHIBA, AIKIDO FOUNDER, 1883-1969 What is Aikido Aikido is often translated as "the way of unifying (with) life energy" or as "the way through spirit and harmony". It operates on the principle or tactic of blending with an attacker's movements for the purpose of controlling their actions with minimal effort. The Aikido practitioner does not rely on muscle strength but concentrates the power of the whole body onto the weak point of an opponent, forcing him/her to cooperate using his/her own force and momentum. This attribute defines Aikido's effectiveness and beauty as a martial art. Several approaches to Aikido have evolved over the years. Today Aikido is found all over the world in a number of styles, with broad ranges of interpretation and emphasis. However, the core essential principles of the martial art remain consistent. WHY PRACTISE AIKIDO? Aikido is more than simply an efficient method of self-defense. In practice, there are various facets of Aikido - the power of focus and concentration of energy; the concept of blending and unified non-resistance; the awareness of self and others. Traditionally, Aikido is a form of Budo – a “martial way”. Unlike other arts, Aikido technique can be applied at varying levels of severity, from the most gentle controlling techniques to the most severe countermeasures. One question that people who practise Aikido are often asked is why they do it. Although many people think of Aikido as a martial art only for self-defence, it has a range of physical and mental benefits as well: Physical benefits of Aikido - Regular Aikido practice can, over time, improve: Balance Posture Flexibility Co-ordination Reaction speed General fitness Mental benefits of Aikido - Aikido also offers unique mental benefits through practice. Meditation is a mind that focuses on a positive experience, and a mental action that is the main cause of mental peace. Whenever we meditate, we are performing an action that will cause us to experience inner peace in the future. Normally, throughout our life, we experience negative states of mind day and night, and these are the opposite to mental peace. Sometimes, however, we naturally experience inner peace, and this is because in the past we concentrated on positive objects. A positive object is one that causes us to develop a peaceful mind when we concentrate on it. The purpose of meditation is to make our mind calm and peaceful. If our mind is peaceful we will be free from worries and mental discomfort, and so we will experience true happiness; but if our mind is not peaceful, we will find it very difficult to be happy, even if we are living in the very best conditions. If we train in meditation, our mind will gradually become more and more peaceful, and we will experience a purer and purer form of happiness. Eventually we will be able to stay happy all the time, even in the most difficult circumstances. girl meditating WHY LEARN TO MEDITATE? Person Meditating Usually we find it difficult to control our mind. It seems as if our mind is like a balloon in the wind – blown here and there by external circumstances. If things go well, our mind is happy, but if they go badly, it immediately becomes unhappy. Such fluctuations of mood arise because we are too closely involved in the external situation. We are like a child making a sandcastle who is excited when it is first made, but who becomes upset when it is destroyed by the incoming tide. By training in meditation, we create an inner space and clarity that enables us to control our mind regardless of the external circumstances. Gradually we develop mental equilibrium, a balanced mind that is happy all the time, rather than an unbalanced mind that oscillates between the extremes of excitement and despondency. If we train in meditation systematically, eventually we will be able to eradicate from our mind the delusions that are the causes of all our problems and suffering. In this way, we will come to experience permanent inner peace. Then, day and night, in life after life, we will experience only peace and happiness.

The Association is governed by the: Articles of the Association ISA works closely with Headteachers and with other professional bodies to promote excellence in independent education. We seek to influence the national educational debate on behalf of our Members, while promoting independence and choice. Our Values ISA Members value innovation and inspiration, building on the best traditions to promote integrity, high standards, industry and responsibility. We value the diversity of our Members’ schools which cover the complete age range and vary in size and nature, from early years to senior, boarding and day, all-through schools, co-educational and single gender, and specialist schools in the arts and music. All Members and their schools share a desire to meet fully the needs of the young people in their care, treating everyone as individuals and providing a high-quality and personalised education. They encourage pupils to make the most of their talents, building confidence through academic achievement and offering a wide range of extra-curricular opportunities. ISA exists for its Members, recognising that high quality support is essential if Heads are to run successful schools. ISA is a heads’ association, founding member of the Independent Schools Council and registered charity, whose Members are head teachers or principals of independent schools, or Honorary Members who serve the sector. Occasionally, reference is informally made to “ISA Schools” as a form of shorthand; in fact the correct reference should be “ISA Members’ schools” – i.e. schools where the headteacher has been elected to full membership of the Association.

Battle Of Ideas

battle of ideas

London

The UK's premier festival of ideas, produced by the Academy of Ideas. Join us at this year's festival at Church House, London, on Sat 15 & Sun 16 October. From the cost-of-living crisis to the war in Ukraine, and from culture wars to institutions in meltdown, this has been a year of enormous challenges. The death of Queen Elizabeth II marks both the end of an era and of an important connection with the past. In just a few days in September, we had both a new prime minister and a new king. Yet our political leaders – only recently in some turmoil themselves – don’t seem up to the task, and many people feel like their voices aren’t being heard. We need to get beyond lurching from one emergency to another and start moving society forward. We must understand how we got here, with an eye to shaping a better future. The aim of the Battle of Ideas festival and events is to provide an opportunity to debate the issues in a full and frank manner, bringing together a wide variety of voices and, most importantly, creating a space for everyone to have their say. THE STATE WE’RE IN Rising inflation, falling living standards and eye-watering bills are front and centre of most people’s minds. And after the pandemic, the already-weak institutions of government seem incapable of rising to these challenges. If the failure to prepare for Covid was bad enough, the absence of any meaningful planning on a wide variety of issues – from energy to healthcare, housing to infrastructure – has truly been exposed. We seem to find ourselves in a state of permanent crises – from not being able to get a GP appointment to civil servants revolting against their ministers. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has thrown into question our previously held assumptions about international relations and shaking up the world order. There is a general feeling of instability, with uprisings in Iran – where women are burning their head scarves in protest against the morality police – and shock election results in both Italy and Sweden. When the Cold War ended, we were told we were at the End of History, that there was no more need for big ideas. There was no alternative to the world envisaged by globalist thinkers: a free market, managed by technocratic experts moving the whole world towards some form of liberal democracy. Recent events have challenged such complacency.

Harrison's Hope

Our executive team has over 120 years of healthcare experience and works with our leadership teams and board of directors to support our caregivers.Harrison’s Hope knows that hospice care is equally about managing symptoms and addressing concerns of the patient and supporting and educating families and loved ones. A longtime employee Kristi Hartway shared, “We have always been very focused on the families.” Our Testimonials and Blog highlight a number of ways in which we have worked with patients and families to make final wishes come true. Many employees of the company have been touched by hospice themselves and truly understand the hospice benefit. These employees have seen firsthand the value, special care and services that are provided in the final months of life. Veteran care has also been a priority for Harrison’s Hope since the very beginning. In fact, the agency was one of the first hospices in the area to launch a “We Honor Veterans Program.” Veterans continue to be an important population for Harrison’s Hope and employees recognize Veterans each month through pinning ceremonies. specialized plans of care, assistance with Veteran benefits, a Veteran to Veteran volunteer program and much more. It is your choice to decide when the time for hospice is right for you. To the extent possible, hospice emphasizes quality of life and tries to give back to patients their own independence and control. Individuals who elect hospice care find that every effort is made to keep them comfortable; allowing them to spend their final months with their loved ones in the place that they call home. Ideally patients are referred to hospice when their life expectancy is approximately six months. Choosing hospice earlier allows the patient and their loved ones to make the most of their end-of-life journey. The hospice team is always there to guide them through the process and provide support – neither prolonging life nor hastening death. Please fill out our contact us form or call us at 208-286-1300 to learn more about how Harrison’s Hope can help you and/or your loved ones, today. We have hospice offices in the Boise and Twin Falls area and serve many surrounding counties. We also have sister agencies in four other regions that operate as Serenity Hospice, Hospice of Virginia, Hospice Partners, and Alamo Hospice.
