We are a group of teachers, musicians and technologists who specialise in composition, improvisation and performance using iPads. Ben Sellers and Travis Snyder began running music workshops with iPads in a Hackney community centre in 2011, developing an approach that combined outstanding musical outcomes with implicit development of musicianship and theory. They transferred this approach to both formal mainstream and SEND/ALN contexts, codifying their methods into what became the 2014 textbook ‘Teaching Music with Garageband for iPad’, and a popular teacher training scheme. In 2016, Travis returned to California to become the head of Assistive Technology for the San Francisco District School Board. 2017 saw the publication of several new resources, including a second edition of the Garageband textbook and an increased focus on training partnerships with Music Education Hubs. Since 2018 we have gained an increasingly strong reputation as SEND/ALN specialists, working with MEHs up and down the country to improve provision through co-delivery and bespoke training and resources, including a complete ‘SEN/D Curriculum’ with Leicester-Shire Music Service, and a set of projects for the Charanga education platform. We were nominated twice in the 2019 ‘Music Teacher Awards for Excellence’. Though our reputation has grown, we remain a small and focussed team, working hard to develop in young people the skill, desire and drive to use music to enhance their lives.

The LFI offers a unique education. From primary school on, the pupils are immersed in a multicultural and bilingual environment. Innovative and creative teaching programmes allow the children to be educated in favourable learning conditions. LFI follows the teaching programmes of the French Department for National Education, while taking into account the local environment and the pupils themselves. Mastery of the French language, the teaching language, and its expansion are at the heart of the syllabus. Workshops for small groups in the primary school and junior cycle allow the pupils for whom it is not their mother tongue to make rapid progress. In the same way, the modern languages policy emphasises English, the language of our host country. Every pupil from the youngest up follows an individual progression. In 5e (First Year), the pupils join the Eurocampus, run jointly with our partner St. Kilian’s. French, German, Irish and other pupils take classes together. At the end of 3e (Third Year), the children sit two exams, the French Diplôme National de Brevet (DNB) and the Irish Junior Certificate. In this way LFI as a school develops European citizenship every day and offers its pupils a real road to success. In the classes of senior cycle, the pupils can continue an international programme with the European Section or the International Section (Option Internationale du Baccalauréat, OIB section américaine).

I’m the eldest of three girls, and as we were growing up, our mum made wedding dresses, upholstered furniture and created most of our clothes on her sewing machine. So I think it was inevitable that one of us would grow up with a creative streak. I’ve always enjoyed making things, not all of my ventures have been successful, but since moving into our current house and being somewhat uninspired by the range of beige lampshades on offer on the high street, I decided to learn how to make my own. Since that day I’ve become addicted. I feel lucky to have found a way to combine my love of beautiful fabrics with interiors – and spread the lampshade love to homes across Yorkshire and beyond. It’s something I take great pride in. I’m passionate about helping clients find that perfect fabric to match their new scheme and make them something unique – something they couldn’t find on the High Street. I also love teaching people how to make their own, on my lampshade making workshops – the smile as their lampshade starts to take shape is priceless. The Cambridge Information and Intellectual Property Meeting (CIIPM) was founded by Jane List of Extract Information and Stuart Newbold of Patent Search & Information Management in 2015. CIIPM hosts an ‘annual’ meeting and provides training in IP matters and patent information search and analysis. The CIIPM meeting provides an opportunity for knowledge sharing for those engaged with the commercialisation of technologies using intellectual property, and those needing information to make legal and commercial decisions. The annual meeting offers an afternoon of talks, workshops, and discussions, a small exhibition, networking opportunities, and has hosted a post graduate student poster competition. CIIPM also provides unique training courses blending theory and practice in IP Matters, IP Commercialisation, and Patent Searching for Legal and Commercial Insights. Training courses take place throughout the year virtually and at venues in Cambridge, UK, or by arrangement at your office or other location. Following the March 2022 meeting CIIPM have established a programme committee to help us maintain the strong programme and networking. In 2008 Jo met and took refuge with Dharma King Dechan Jeuren – MahaVairocana Buddha, lineage bearer of the Esoteric and LinJi Chan schools in China. She received her Dharma name – Zhi Ling. In April 2015, the MahaAmita Temple was opened by the Mayor of Southend-on-Sea. The only Buddhist Temple in the Borough, Jo was then invited by the Mayor to present the Buddhist flags to him at the Southend Borough Annual General Meeting, which he accepted on behalf of the Borough. In 2016 she was invited to become the Buddhist representative for SACRE (Standing Advisory Council on Religious Education) for the Southend Borough and currently sits on the panel. The Founding Director of the Centre, Jo is an ordained Buddhist teacher and runs meditation and healing sessions weekly and Mindfulness courses monthly. She is a huge advocate of teaching and promoting the benefits of meditation and visits schools, groups and organisations within the local community giving talks and workshops. Her personal philosophy is to be as honest and truthful as possible and specialises in teaching how to open up the heart centre.
