I spent the early part of my career involved with commercial projects of varying size in the UK and overseas. More recently, I had the opportunity to indulge my true passion for old buildings whilst working with Donald Insall and Associates in the Chester and Shrewsbury branches. I relish the challenge of problem solving involved with manipulating existing buildings to accept new uses and love to see old buildings sitting harmoniously alongside modern extensions. Since then I have had the pleasure of working solely in the domestic sector and have a real passion for bringing well designed domestic projects to life. I enjoy delivering bespoke architectural solutions to smaller scale projects where I can provide the care and attention required to make a house a home. There is real joy in taking a Client through the design and build process to realise their dream home. My real ‘joie de vivre’ are transformative projects that look at the whole house to make the rooms and spaces flow and reveal a beautiful home where there may have stood an uninspiring building. I like to be as frugal with my Client’s budgets as possible and believe that good design shouldn’t cost a fortune. I hope that the projects I have show-cased on my website bring you inspiration for your own ongoing projects or perhaps confidence to start your own home transformation. Edinburgh School of Music is an independent music school based in Edinburgh city centre. We are a team of highly experienced, enthusiastic and professional teachers who provide music lessons in a wide range of instruments. Our goal at ESM is to bring the love of music into all our student's lives in a fun and enjoyable way as well as providing all the necessary skills to pass exams, perform with confidence and compose music and songs. We are very proud to maintain a 100% pass rate in all our student's instrumental and vocal music exams making us Edinburgh's favourite music school for private music lessons. One - to - one tuition Lessons are available for a range of instruments including voice, piano, guitar, violin, viola, cello, saxophone, clarinet, flute, recorder and drums. We offer one to one private lessons in our studio in Meadowbank or online lessons. Groups We offer a range of music group activities including our Baby music groups (for ages 0-5), youth singing groups, performance coaching workshops and summer school music groups. Please contact us to find out the groups that are currently available. Concerts At ESM we believe that learning to make incredible music is just not as rewarding if you don’t share it with others. We provide monthly showcases at Edinburgh's Jazz Bar in addition to end of term concerts. This gives our students plenty of opportunities to showcase their progress and develops our pupils into confident performers. Unfortunately, due to current restrictions surrounding concerts, we are unable to host any concerts at this time.

I am never happier than when sharing my love of spinning and all things woolly. My forte is long draw spinning, although I teach all methods. I was professionally taught in 1980s and have never stopped learning and sharing my skills ever since. My new book 'Hand spinning - essential technical and creative skills', is the only one in the world that explains long draw spinning at length and in easily accessible detail. It’s fun, fast, satisfying, and the way spinning used to be done before industrial production took over. Hand spinning is not about mimicking commercial yarn; it is about creating your own unique, signature, yarn. Yarn that is fit for the purpose and bears the name of the person who made it. Yarn made in your choice of fibre, using your chosen spinning method, in colours and textures that will put joy into your life. And that is only the beginning... further joys of knitting, weaving or decoration await. However, there is no reason why spinners can't just hang up their yarn for the pure pleasure of seeing it. Unlike a framed painting though, you do more than look at yarn to admire it. You need to touch it, grasp it, dig your fingers in, smell it, feel the sensuous warmth against your face.... As I say, hand spinning transcends the commonplace - my aim is to help and inspire people to discover this for themselves. Fun Pots has always been a small, family-run business. Started by Sue and Sally in 2003, their vision was to provide a space where customers could get creative in a fun and relaxing environment. Fast forward to 2017. Both Sue and Sally decided it was time to move on from running the studio, and their first port of call was to contact the Fun Pot’s community. They sent out an email to let past customers know the business was for sale and that they were open to offers. When the email dropped into our inbox we were immediately interested. As previous customers, we loved the warm and welcoming atmosphere that Fun Pots provided. After chatting with Sue and Sally we decided that taking over the business was the perfect new adventure for our family. Our aim has always been to continue doing what Fun Pots does best; providing a fun and relaxing space for customers to paint. Most of the time we leave the running of the studio to our staff team, but you might spot Mike in the studio (usually fixing something - he’s very handy!). We love the sense of community the studio offers and that you don’t need to be arty or creative to have fun here. It is lovely to see customers’ confidence grow, and to share in each piece as it develops before being revealed in its finished, fired glory. We hope that, just like us, you will discover the fun of painting pottery at Fun Pots too!

The kitchen is the root of it all, serving a daily menu of breakfasts and lunches that are equal parts healthy and indulgent. From daily stews and sandwiches, to cakes and mac 'n cheese, we love feeding people and creating fresh salads and smoothies that put a smile on your face and nourishment in your body. As part of the holistic experience, we built a space upstairs that is calm, nurturing, and safe; this space is the Beetroot Sauvage Wellness Centre, offering a variety of yoga classes and therapies. All classes focus on gentle movement that not only stretch and relax the body, but allow you to feel into it, explore and perform self-enquiry into your emotional and spiritual needs. A space to rest and focus inward, to thank the body, and to draw close attention to healing. Along with a weekly schedule of classes, we have a variety of therapists, whose knowledge of healing the body is rooted in their own journey, training and experience. They blend sensitivity and magic to create a safe space that allows you to honour your needs and embrace rejuvenation with full intention. In addition to our focus on the kitchen and the body, we have our little slice of heaven, our city sanctuary garden: a rustic space that you can dance in, eat in, laugh in, or bring plants and garden in. As often as possible we have musicians playing live music on Sundays and we thoroughly encourage dancing if you feel so inspired. We do!
