PQA is a dedicated performing arts school with classes for children and young adults in Comedy & Drama, Musical Theatre (singing & dancing) and Film & Television.OUR STORY Pauline and her husband Steve opened their first Academy when they couldn't find anything that ticked all the boxes for their son, Charlie. They wanted to be able to provide performing arts tuition that was enjoyable, fun and would build children’s confidence. More importantly, they wanted to help young people to pursue their life's dreams, whatever those dreams may be, using drama to help children realise their potential and blossom into confident young people. To Pauline and Steve, the performing arts is more than just singing and acting and they wanted to reflect that at PQA. They therefore created a performing arts school that covers the entire arts spectrum, including lessons in Comedy, Drama and of course Film & TV. When 130 students turned up for the opening of the first PQA Academy, they knew they were onto something! Over 15 years later, PQA has more than 200 Academies nationwide and is the largest provider of Film & TV education for young people in the UK.

Hello and Welcome to Mount Tamar School in Plymouth Our school is maintained by Plymouth City Council for children who have an Educational, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) describing Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) and/or an Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC). We have children on roll from Y3-Y11. We are a community of approximately 100 pupils and 100 staff over 4 sites in the Plymouth area. Our main Primary and Secondary School site is at Row Lane in Higher St Budeaux in the north of the city. Please note our Drake Residential site has been closed since the beginning of the pandemic and we are not providing any residential provision at present. The school provides a broad, balanced curriculum and is enhanced by our Forest School for Primary pupils and our craft/design and technology and farm sites for secondary pupils. We also use various external training providers to offer more specialised provision. I am working closely with the Interim Executive Board who are governing the school during its sponsorship to Transforming Futures, and I am delighted to have joined the school at such an exciting period in its development.

Ofsted stated that: ‘All pupils can learn alongside their peers in this school, and staff are well trained to adapt learning to make sure this is effective. The inaugural Northern Ireland Festival of Writing took place in April & May of 2019. In launching the festival it was our aim to bring together a range of local writers and content creators from across the wide spectrum of talents that we have in Northern Ireland, to run a series of events and workshops wherein those aspiring and emerging in their chosen creative field would have the opportunity to learn from those who had successfully carved a path for them to follow, as well as providing a platform for local writers at all points in their writing journey, to showcase their achievements. The Festival was a huge success, proving beyond a shadow of a doubt to us, that not only was there a wealth of writing talent in Northern Ireland, keen to be tapped, developed, promoted and celebrated, but also, that the work of The Merlin Project was much needed and appreciated in our current climate. We had a level of support that went well beyond our expectations, with established artists and organisations willing to give up their time and expertise to help others develop their craft, as well as our database of people wishing to take part in and develop from the festival, reaching numbers of mind-blowing proportions.

The Professional Diving Academy was set up in response to several years of frustration within the diving industry at an apparent lack of skills with newly qualified divers. It was noted by many companies that commercial diver training wasn’t educating divers in many of the basic working skills that divers require, such as underwater tools use, rigging and lifting or underwater burning and welding. Our training model from the very outset was to ensure that PDA graduates had a significant skills advantage over other new divers entering the industry, therefore providing a solid foundation from which they could build a successful future diving career. Our courses have been designed to include advanced skills training in essential working techniques, which although not a requirement as part of the HSE diver training syllabus, is most definitely preferred by any future employer. It remains our primary goal to ensure that during their time at the academy, students are acquainted with a variety of tools in a realistic and safe working environment. Our highly experienced and knowledgeable “real life” Diving Supervisors, allows PDA students to benefit from a broad spectrum background of commercial diving experience. Ultimately this knowledgeable experience help our newly qualified divers to adapt more readily to the real thing when it finally arrives.
