CoCo has a team of staff and volunteers dedicated to building confidence, self-esteem and support positive lifestyle changes in young people via the conduits of education, sport and culture. Our staff have a background in mentoring and life coaching, project management, social inclusion, vocational training, and sports coaching. Our community based values are manifested in our training activities in the classroom, and our team activities which take place in positive open spaces and parks around Brighton and Hove. CoCo works with a variety of local organisations and stakeholders to achieve its goals and deliver its activities. For example, we work directly with youth clubs, Job Centre Plus, and youth/employment networks (Brighton’s Women’s Centre, the Chamber of Commerce, Brighton and Hove Youth Collective, and The Platform) to engage directly with young people that are interested in career planning, job search, our vocational courses, or sport team building activities. We also have close ties with sports clubs such as Hassocks Tennis Club, Preston Park Tennis Club, Pavilion and Avenue Tennis Club, Preston Panthers FC, Withdean FC and Patcham FC. With these clubs we organise team building events, joint sports days and in house training to develop soft and employability skills via sport. Our team has worked with hundreds of young people across Sussex to provide vocational training, mentoring and employability training. Our reach is growing and in 2017 hope to reach even more young people. Specifically, our qualified staff provide VET courses such as City and Guilds Level 1 Principles of Coaching Sport, Level 1-2 Employability Skills and Level 2 Travel and Tourism Destinations. We also provide Coaching and Mentoring Sessions with a qualified life coach, cultural activities and overseas team sports tours in Europe. Our aim is to support young people not in employment, education or training, aged 18-24, early school leavers now long term unemployed, general unemployed young people, and we place special emphasis on the participation of young women and the more socially excluded members of society. We use our links with local colleges, the local authority, community groups and youth networks to support young people into vocational training, improve their confidence and support them into further vocational training, work experience or employment. I studied B.A Ceramic Design through Anglia Ruskin College, Cambridge, graduating in 1999 to set up my workshop next to Salhouse Broad in Norfolk. My work has always been about attempting to capture the essence of the land - and the patterns imposed on it by Man. Between 1999 and 2007 I made several study trips to Mashiko in Japan to learn from potters such as Hamada Tomo-o, Matsusaki Ken and Kusakabe Masakazu and Euan Craig. The following year I was invited to exhibit in Osaka and then in Tokyo. Through a meeting with Wali Hawes at the Osaka exhibition I was invited to apply for a month long residency in Tokoname with IWCAT. This was an amazing experience and I was delighted to be invited back to Tokoname in 2010 to exhibit. I am delighted to be exhibiting in Tokoname once more in 2023- C19 allowing. In 2005, with a bursary from Creative Arts East to work with local Thatchers and make work inspired by their Craft, I developed a glaze suitable for my electric kiln using the thatching reed that had been discarded. Using the thatch gave my work an originality and a sense of place unobtainable out side of the Broads area. Beginning in 2017, Hoveton Great Broad was drained of silt by an ongoing Conservation project. With kind permission from the owner of the Broad I was able to collect some silt by boat. Now firing with my Fred Olsen design wood kiln, affectionately known as "Fast Freda" I developed a glaze from the silt. This then led to using the glaze with stretched forms and eventually to Soda firing in the wood kiln. Freda however didn't much care for this, so it was sadly a short lived soda romance. I continued to wood fire, with a small Fred Olsen design fast fire kiln until recently. In 2018 I was commissioned by the Dean of Norwich Cathedral to make an enormous piece candle stand, this huge piece is now situated in the Lady Chapel for people to light a small candle for loved ones. It is lovely to have work in a permanent presence in my home city and to continue the tradition of potters having work in Cathedrals. I revisited Japan in 2018, my 10th visit, this time with a fellow artist and the specific purpose of visiting the Temple and Shrine gardens to draw inspiration for forthcoming work and exhibitions. Having not quite seen all we needed to, a return trip was made in early 2020 providing me with superb images and memories. The exhibition ABSTRACT JAPAN finally took place in September 2021 at Mandell's Gallery in Norwich and was a great success.

For a long time, I worked within the Heritage Sector, leading a Visitor Experience team at several places within the South West, helping to look after special places to leave a leagacy for future generations. I loved my purposeful work, developing my team and seeing them grow in their skills, experience and ultimately confidence to become the best version of themselves which enabled them to deliver high levels of service to everyone visiting. In 2014 and 2018 I negotiated returning to my role on a flexible working pattern after being on parental leave twice. I did this through recruiting, training and developing a fantastic team of staff and volunteers to support the visitor operation. Enabling me to lead on the department’s business plan objectives and also lead the visitor experience of a major £3.2 million restoration project. Discovering what I wanted and making it happen In 2020, as a result of the fall out of the Covid pandemic, I took voluntary redundancy. I knew that I wanted to use my people skills in my next career path, so with my warm, calm and empathetic approach and a desire to reach and help far more people, after my own journey of self explorations, I decided I wanted to become a coach! So in 2020, I decided to make it official and went through a rigorous training programme for 11 months, to achieve my diploma and become a certified Personal Devlopment coach with The Coaching Academy.
