I specialise in working with the owners of pet dogs to improve their relationship with their dog. Many of the common obedience and behaviour problems such as pulling on the lead, refusing to come back when called, jumping up on people etc. can be cured relatively quickly with my help. I can also help dog owners overcome behaviour problems such as separation anxiety, destructive behaviour, over excitement etc. I prefer to work with the owners during the process, fully involving them in the training process which gives them a better understanding of canine behaviour and how dogs respond to human emotions and body language. A number of common behavioural issues which many pet dogs exhibit can be related back to a lack of basic obedience training. For example refusing to come back when called. What usually happens here is the owner has a few bad experiences when the dog has ran off and refused to come back so the owner decides that the dog will not be let off the lead again. The result the dog becomes frustrated due to a lack of exercise (most dogs require at least 30 minutes free running exercise a day) he returns home with loads of unused energy and looks for ways to use it up. Chewing your possessions or property, pacing up and down and whining, are all favourites. If you are experiencing any of the above problems with your dog, I can help, you do not have to put up with it. You can use the website contact form or give me a call now on 07872 575672 for a friendly, no obligation chat.

We have strict rules regarding fighting / play fighting outside of the classes! * All beginners train in their tracksuit bottoms and t-shirts, they will need a drink of water for during the class. * Our Karate Suits (Gi) cost £35 which includes delivery, white belt & embroidery of Association badge. You do not need to purchase this until you are happy that your child is going to continue their training for the foreseeable future. * Beginner class fees are £26 per calendar month, payable by standing order. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, also known as BJJ, is one of the most popular and fastest-growing martial arts in the world. Exceptionally effective for hand to hand combat and self defence, BJJ is similar to a mix of Judo and Wrestling and relies on technique and leverage rather than strength and brute force. BJJ Lesson It's one of the most effective, well-proven, and well respected martial arts for person to person combat on the planet. Heavily relied upon in MMA (Mixed Martial Arts), it's tried and tested, with its effectiveness having been proven beyond doubt in the UFC Ultimate Fighting Championships. It has a heavy focus on grappling, joint locks, choke submissions etc and especially ground fighting as this is where most fights end up! Great for Self Defence! Most fights and physical altercations end up on the ground. You don't see this in combat sports that concentrate on standing fighting such as boxing and kickboxing etc, as there is a referee to separate both combatants once the range (distance) between them closes down into wrestling range. In the real world, most situations quickly end up on the ground. BJJ Lesson Being able to take a single opponent to the ground and control them while you apply techniques that will render them incapacitated is a highly effective, tested, and proven fight strategy. But it's also equally beneficial to be able to prevent or defend yourself if taken to the ground against your will and also have the ability to return to standing again and escape if need be. Unlike many clubs that nowadays only practise BJJ's sports element, at Pure Art BJJ, we also practice the full syllabus of practical, easy to apply, and effective self defence techniques considered a fundamental component of the original art as well as incorporating contemporary self defence strategies and tactics. Fantastic For Fitness! A session of BJJ is physically demanding. The constant movement provides a fantastic workout and builds powerful functional strength as well as good cardio. The fluidity of motion and stretching it provides is also great for your flexibility. Highly Effective! BJJ uses live rolling, a highly addictive form of sparring similar to wrestling, as an important part of its training. Partners will attempt to control and apply submission techniques on each other while resisting, releasing them once their partner taps before any injury can occur. BJJ Lesson Due to the fact the art is grappling rather than strike based, partners can fully resist techniques allowing each other to test and experience using them for real without fear of causing injury. You will gain confidence and knowledge that the ability you have achieved now works for real. Due to this live practice method, practitioners can gain a very effective ability in a short time. Just like you wouldn't learn tennis without getting on a court and having a game, you cannot learn to fight without doing it. BJJ offers you a safe and practical way to do this. There is no doubting or imagining that what you have learned works with this martial art. Works Regardless of Size or Strength! BJJ uses leverage and science to allow a smaller person to overcome a larger person regardless of size, gender, or age. Instead of relying on muscle, strength, and brute force. Portsmouth Martial Arts Club Superb for Weight Loss! BJJ is an excellent form of exercise. You will burn lots of calories during a session and find yourself wanting to eat healthier due to the enhanced ability and energy this will give you both on and off the mats, and the positive lifestyle BJJ promotes. Way More Fun than Joining a Gym! BJJ provides exercise as part of an enjoyable activity rather than exercising for its own sake, which can quickly become repetitive and boring. So you're more likely to stick with it and get results. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Class Training More importantly, it's also way more productive and rewarding as you are gaining a lifelong skill and ability, which may save your life while gaining fitness and enhancing your physique at the same time. It's also great for dealing with stress and gaining balance in your life. The positive life rewards of Jiu-Jitsu go way beyond gaining skill in fighting, and at Pure Art BJJ, we foster a positive, enjoyable atmosphere in all classes, which means you will leave feeling great! Does it actually work! Yes. Unlike all the kicking and punching the air or bags you may find in other martial arts, you will gain real experience of its use under live pressure and experience its powerful effectiveness for yourself within a few classes. Time is precious, so why waste it? Do I Need Anything to start? No, just wear loose, comfortable clothing and bring a drink of water. Your first session with us is completely Free to try! When you decide to get a Gi (training outfit), we recommend Valor Fightwear. Their Gis are great value and excellent quality with fast delivery. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS * About me [https://kalandrakamusic.com/faqs/#about] * Lessons [https://kalandrakamusic.com/faqs/#lessons] * Materials [https://kalandrakamusic.com/faqs/#materials] * Studio / opening times [https://kalandrakamusic.com/faqs/#howtoget] * Payments and cancellations policy [https://kalandrakamusic.com/faqs/#policies] HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN TEACHING MUSIC FOR? I’ve been teaching music for over 10 years. What instruments do you teach? I teach guitar (classical, acoustic and electric), bass, banjo, ukulele, and also DJing and music production. WHAT MUSIC STYLES DO YOU TEACH? I can teach a variety of styles (classical, pop, rock, indie, funky, reggae) and electronica (house, techno, downtempo, drum and bass), but it really depends on the students’ music taste. I would adapt the lesson accordingly. DO YOU OFFER FREE CONSULTATION? Yes, I do. In fact, I highly recommend it, so new potential students can set clear expectations and get answers to the questions they might have before enrolling in a single lesson or a block. CAN I TAKE A TRIAL LESSON BEFORE I BOOK A BLOCK OF HOURS? Yes, you can. In fact, this is what I initially suggest to new students, so they can see how they get on with the lesson, the instrument and me, too. HOW LONG DOES A LESSON LAST? A lesson normally last for one hour. DJing lessons can be longer (an hour and a half or 2 hours), and ukulele lesson for kids are usually 30 minutes long. I DON’T HAVE ANY MUSICAL BACKGROUND AT ALL. WILL I BE ABLE TO LEARN AN INSTRUMENT/DJING? Yes, you will! I have many beginner students who had never played an instrument before, and they are making big progress. CAN I LEARN MORE THAN ONE INSTRUMENT AT THE SAME TIME? Of course! It is really up to you. HOW MUCH TIME SHOULD I PRACTICE EVERY DAY? There is not really a recommended time for it. However, a minimum of 15 minutes per day would be nice to see a steady progress. DO YOU SEND HOMEWORK TO STUDENTS? Yes, I normally do, so they can practice what they were taught on the lesson. DO YOU OFFER ONLINE LESSONS? Yes, I do for each instrument and Music production, but not for DJing. DO YOU OFFER STUDENT DISCOUNT? Yes, I do. a 10% discount applies to all prices shown on the website. If you want to apply to the student discount, you will have to show proof that you are a student (i.e. a dated student ID). I SENT AN ENQUIRY, BUT I HAVEN’T RECEIVED A REPLY. WHY? I aim to reply to enquiries within 24-48 hours. Also, check your spam folder, as quite often my emails end up there. DO I NEED TO HAVE MY OWN INSTRUMENT? Although it is not essential as I have spare instruments at the studio, it is recommended to have your own instrument, so you will be able to practice from home. FOR DJING LESSONS, DO I NEED TO HAVE MY OWN CONTROLLER/ DECKS? This is the same as with instruments, it’d be good to have them at home, so you can continue practising what you have learnt in the lessons. I can also give you advise on what software you can get to DJ with you computer without using a controller (I actually started this way in my early years). WHAT EQUIPMENT DO YOU USE FOR YOUR DJ LESSONS? I use 2x Pioneer CDJ900 Nexus multi players, 2x Technics SL 1210 MK2 turntables,  a Xone 92 Mixer and 2x KRK Rokit 5 active speakers along with a subwoofer. WHERE DO THE LESSONS TAKE PLACE? They take place at my private studio located inside the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Centre (25 Palmerston Place, EH12 5AP Edinburgh [https://goo.gl/maps/dSYMfvjDPtG1Uzq59]) I WILL BE COMING TO THE LESSON BY CAR. IS IT FREE TO PARK IN THE AREA? No, it is not. It is free to park from 6:30pm from Monday to Saturday, though. There is also a street nearby (Belford R [https://goo.gl/maps/psRN3eXhAVNko7mMA]oad) where you can park from 5:30pm and throughout the day on Saturdays with no parking restrictions. CAN YOU GIVE ME LESSONS IN MY OWN HOUSE? Depending on the students’ needs, this can be occasionally arranged, but it’s not always possible due to my schedule, which can be tight at some times. An extra charge for transport will apply. Get in touch with me for consultation. [https://kalandrakamusic.com/contact/] DO YOU TEACH AT THE WEEKEND? Yes, I do. I’m open on Fridays from 5pm to 10pm and Saturdays from 10am to 3pm. I close on Sundays. DO YOU TEACH CHILDREN? Yes, I do, from all ages. Parents can come with them to the lesson and wait  inside the studio, if they wish. There is also a tea room inside the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Centre. WHAT HAPPENS IF I CAN’T ATTEND A LESSON? If you let me know with more than 24 hours in advance, I can rearrange the lesson for another day/time. However, if the request for cancellation is less than 24 hours: – I will try to rearrange the lesson on another day/time in the same week (this is subject to both the student and my availability). This lesson will be charged as usual. – If the lesson can’t be arranged in the same week, the lesson will be charged. No exceptions are made. – Sick absences and overtime work are also included in this cancellation policy. In order to avoid cancellation, I recommend you to be realistic about your spare time and commitment to the music lessons. Some students are very keen to learn and instrument/DJing, but they just can’t find the time for it. DO THE BLOCKS OF LESSONS EXPIRE? No, they don’t. The remaining lessons will be kept until you come back from an absence (sickness, holiday, etc) I WON’T BE ABLE TO ATTEND MY REMAINING LESSONS. CAN I ASK FOR A REFUND? Unfortunately, that is not possible. However, the lessons are transferable, so somebody else can take them.  YOU HAVE PROPOSED ME A DAY AND A TIME FOR MY LESSON, BUT THIS STILL HASN’T BEEN CONFIRMED BY ME. CAN YOU HOLD MY SLOT UNTIL LAST MINUTE? I will hold a slot up to 48 hours before the lesson. After this time, I can’t guarantee the slot will be available. I currently have a waiting list for students wanting to get some specific slots (mostly at evening time), and if I haven’t received confirmation from you prior to 48 hours to the lesson, the slot will become available. WHAT PAYMENT METHODS DO YOU ACCEPT? AND WHEN DOES THE LESSON HAVE TO BE PAID? For single lessons, I accept cash and card, to be paid 24 hours prior to the day and time of the lesson. For block of lessons, bank transfer and PayPal are also acceptable, always paid 24 hours prior to the first lesson. If a lesson hasn’t been paid before this timeframe, there is no warranty the slot will be available. And if the payment hasn’t gone through at least 12 hours before the lesson, this will be automatically cancelled.  ARE THERE ANY ADDITIONAL COSTS APART FROM THE LESSON CHARGE? No, there aren’t. Prices shown on the website are fixed to the final price.
