Connect Reading started as Reading Business Community Partnership in 2003. First established by local businesses to broker relationships and resources between charities and businesses. We use an innovative and cross-sector approach to in-kind support. Over the years we have become the go-to place for organisations looking for bespoke CSR advice, information and guidance and how to get involved in local initiatives. Those who’ve led us through the years have won awards for their contributions to business and the community. Supported Contact Services For young people growing up in our care system the time spent with family is often an infrequent and special occasion. On average a young person in long-term foster care is likely to have the opportunity to spend time with their parents and siblings four to six times per year. It is often hard for families to come to terms with the fact that they are not able to live together- it is vital that when they can spend time together it is supported, constructive and safe. We offer a choice of activity based environments for our supported contact sessions, our staff provide support and encouragement for young people and their families to engage in a range of activities, strengthening relationships and providing guidance where needed. This results in everyone getting a positive experience from the time spent together and the activity focus can help to detract from painful memories.

Concern surrounding underachievement of young males was brought into sharp focus in 2007 by the independent REACH report. Sponsored by The Home Office, The Department for Communities and Local Government and The Department for Education and Families, the report explored the costs associated with the problems that can arise from a disadvantaged socio-economic background, in this case specifically for young black males. These costs are associated with over-representation in the Criminal Justice System and reduced gross earnings and taxes associated with educational underachievement. They are estimated at £808 million a year and could amount to £24 billion over the next 50 years if the underlying issues are not addressed. From a working-class background himself, Clive attributes his corporate career success to hard work and maintaining a positive attitude. A key finding of the REACH report was a lack of positive male role models, particularly black male role models, in the media and the lives of young men. Clive knows from experience that the socio-economic gap to success can be bridged – he has held a number of senior level HR positions, is a company director and was awarded an OBE in 2010 for his contributions to the REACH report and the workplace mediation industry. Thus his involvement in the REACH report, together with his own personal experience, has inspired the development of the Bridge Builders Mentoring Scheme.

The Institute of Clinical Research (ICR) is the probably the oldest independent membership-led professional body for global clinical researchers. For over 40 years, The Institute of Clinical Research (ICR) has provided high quality training, networking and support to the clinical research community. For many Members the Institute has been part of their life throughout their working careers, many have been with the Institute since its first incarnation as the ACRPI. It is the membership that makes the Institute. How does it all work ? The Institute of Clinical Research is you, the Membership governed by the Articles of Memorandum drawn up by the founding members. The Board is made up of members who give their time freely to guide the future direction of the ICR. The ICR Secretariat is the administrative arm of the Institute, its primary focus is to ensure that the wishes of the Board and Membership are carried out and to see to the day to day tasks that any membership organisation generates. Our Mission The ICR exists to support our members through all stages of their careers. Our Mission To enable a digital economy supported by a more reliable, efficient, and environmentally sustainable digital infrastructure. Our Story In 2003, as applications started increasing in complexity and size, the team initially addressed challenges in Software Architecture reliability and efficiency, setting some of the earlier groundwork around Architecture design languages and software product lines. The focus then quickly shifted to a more holistic approach from the ground up addressing the reliability, efficiency, and environmental sustainability of digital services, from data centres to IT Operations and application design. This led to the establishment of the London Technology Academy (LTA) in 2013. The team laid out some key scientific work around cost-effective deployments in the Cloud and environmental sustainability challenges in software and physical infrastructure. Today, LTA is home to some of the key international authorities in digital infrastructure. The LTA team supported the creation of some of the best practices and global standards and policies on digital infrastructure (e.g EN50600, EU Code of Conduct, EMAS, EcoDesign and EU Green Public Procurement to name a few). The team supports governments and corporates globally to transform their digital footprint to a more reliable, efficient and environmentally sustainable state. The LTA team led European initiatives like EURECA and PEDCA that saw broad transformation and consolidation of government infrastructure and the training of well over a thousand ICT professionals.

Our spacious workshops provide a calm environment for students to focus on their particular choice of activity. The pleasant atmosphere and the hands on engagement with materials, which is part of the process of making and doing, provides an experience which many people, including those with more profound and complex needs, can find beneficial and therapeutic. As well as providing for those with learning difficulties we also offer places to people with disabilities who would otherwise have limited access to pursue arts and craft activities. OUR STUDENTS Many of our students are people who experience the world in a very individual manner, responding in their own unique way. Our experienced team of tutors, support staff and volunteers are on hand to encourage their full potential, taking advantage of a modern, well equipped studio, to produce often striking and surprising art work and designs. COMMUNITY ETHOS Clearing up, cleaning and recycling also form an important part of studio activity and students are encouraged to play a full part in taking responsibility for their workspace. We take recycling seriously and have a positive attitude to green issues. We buy recycled materials whenever possible and reuse as much of our own as we can. We try and support other social enterprises and will buy ethically, sourcing goods and services from local businesses when available.

Hi, I'm Sarah. I live on the outskirts of Bristol and grew up in beautiful Cornwall, which will always be home to me. I am a Natural Health Practitioner, Coach, Spiritual Mentor, Akashic Transformation Practitioner. I'm also Mum to two teenagers and two cockapoos, Cooper and Willow. For 22 years, I worked in the corporate world in HR. My last permanent role - before following my heart and leaving it all behind - was HR Director for a Bristol Law Firm. My corporate background is relevant because I totally understand and empathise with the pressures that brings and I understand the real juggle (and sometimes struggle) working Mums have to keep all the plates spinning. For the past 11 years, I have been on my own wellness and healing journey, which has included getting to the root cause of a diagnosis and following my own wellness plan to reverse the diagnosis and return to health. I continue to focus on healing my body naturally, fuelling my body with the right nutrition for me, balancing my body's energy systems and committing to both personal and spiritual development. I believe we already have inside us the tools and wisdom to bring about the changes we want and need to make to live our best lives. Sometimes we just need a helping hand to bring it all to the surface. That's where I come in!
