The earliest known charter still in existence is from 1155 and belongs to the Weavers’ Company. However, it is very likely that there were companies around several centuries before this. Livery refers to the distinctive clothing that each company wore to distinguish themselves from other companies. In 1515 the Lord Mayor established the order of precedence for the existing 48 companies. After then new companies took the next available number. Companies formed after 1925 are known as ‘Modern’ Livery companies with those established before then being known as ‘Ancient’ companies. Concerned with a particular industry, the companies provided a means of guaranteeing the workmanship and trustworthiness of both members and the quality of goods produced. In fact, in order to trade within the City of London, it was necessary to be a Freeman. There are now 110 Livery companies of whom about 70% are still directly connected to their trade through accreditation schemes, apprenticeship programmes and wider support for their trade. Livery companies continue to provide sponsorships, awards, trade support and also have associated charitable operations even if their trade is no longer current. Some companies have modernised with their trade, others have diversified into associated areas. The Worshipful Company of Information Technologists (WCIT) is 100 in the order of precedence. The Company combines centuries-old tradition with a modern focus, energy, and innovation. Like all Livery companies, we look to give something back to the industry and community, and focus on four areas of activity that we call pillars: Industry – we help to promote and shape the IT industry through our neutral forums and links with industry bodies, such as the BCS, the Chartered Institute for IT and techUK Education – WCIT supports several schools, most notably Lilian Bayliss Technology School and the Hammersmith Academy which WCIT helped to build and endow in a joint venture with the Mercers’ Company Fellowship – there is a full programme of social activity, both formal and informal. Unusually for a modern Livery company, we have our own Hall and we also use other Livery Halls for various events throughout the year. Charity – the WCIT Charity raises funds through events and donations. It makes grants to charities to promote the use of IT and improve the quality of life for those who are disadvantaged.

Field Breaks started out in the Autumn of 2007 to provide a selection of professionally tutored illustration workshops in the Peak District. This followed the demise of similar workshops in the area and filled a much needed gap for people wanting short affordable art breaks in botanical illustration and landscape painting. Such was the demand for this provision that over the following years the programme has been extended to include a greater selection of courses and venues, along with a growing number of specialist professional tutors. 2020 and the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic saw great challenges to all small businesses, including Field Breaks, with courses rescheduled for safer times. This was an opportunity however for founder member Sue to think seriously about her achievements, goals and ambitions, and after some deliberation decided to pass the business on to fellow artist Hazel. Along with many happy memories of running Field Breaks, Sue is enjoying the opportunity to start new projects. With the handover, Hazel decided to revitalise the old website - "I'm re-dressing the shop window while it's quiet!" Following suggestions from her peers, this also gave her the opportunity to re-think and amend the name from "Field Breaks" to "Field Breaks Art", which lends more focus under the artwork umbrella. We hope you like it! After the extended lockdown, Hazel added a new range of on-line mini workshops in the Spring of 2021, which were a lovely way to keep connected with other artists and share ideas. From July 2021 we were once again able to offer in-person workshops so the focus was to deliver quality tutor-led courses while maintaining a level of safety, including reduced class numbers to enable social distancing. In 2022 we are pleased to be able to offer another full programme of workshops in drawing, painting, botanical illustration, natural history, landscape, abstract, and mixed media including textiles and craft workshops in batik, jewellery making, lacemaking and felting. Landmarks started to offer day services and post-16 education in March 1995, where the curriculum was largely practical and land-based, working in farm buildings in Creswell, Derbyshire. Since that time Landmarks has grown and developed its educational offer so that by the time of writing this welcome, Landmarks supports over 150 post-16 and day service Learners, all of whom learn a variety of essential life skills from our five sites located across the East Midlands and South Yorkshire. We have changed our curriculum from purely land and animal-based to include several vocational subjects such as; hospitality, catering, cookery, retail, administration and labouring. These additional subjects support our learners to make informed choices about the type of vocations they would like to follow. College life at Landmarks involves being taught in practical, real-life situations, whilst being supported by highly trained and experienced staff who are experts in working with learners with additional needs. It is important for me, as it is for my team, that whilst learners are with us, they focus on developing knowledge, skills and behaviour that makes a real difference to their lives. I’m the founder of Positive Dog, Podcaster, Dog Behaviour and Training Consultant, Certified Separation Anxiety Trainer (CSAT) and proudly Brazilian. I specialise in well-mannered and happy dogs with more than 7 years of experience in dog behaviour. I believe in fear and force free dog training and science-based training guides all I do. When training with a dog, I investigate deeply all the possible motives why the dog is showing the behaviour. I’m used to working with dogs that had many other trainers before and no success. I also work alongside vets helping to investigate contributing factors that can affect behaviour conducting clinical investigations. I’ve helped 900+ dogs and guardians to live easier and happy lives with their dogs. Marvin, the fluff in the picture, was my rescue dog and soulmate who taught me so much and, unfortunately, he passed away last year. My eagerness to help animals who have behaviour issues like Marvin just grew since I adopted him. I sought education and certifications to help me to deliver long term results for dogs that struggle.   Aside from practical experience, I also have wide-ranging knowledge of behaviour modification and applied behaviour analysis.
