nvr innovations

Denise and Margaret initially introduced NVR into Southampton City training over 40 professionals and parents to become NVR practitioners (level 3) including members of, Child Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS), and Social Services. Over 30 NVR groups are now run per year within the city from early intervention to specialist autism groups. Since then they have worked in partnership with Educational Psychologists in Renfrewshire to blend the NVR interventions with their existing nurture programme within the educational setting. Over the last two years they have trained staff to deliver in NVR so they can use whole school approaches, group work and individual work throughout Renfrewshire. They are currently training a small number of staff to become trainers so that they can maintain NVR within their agencies. Alongside delivering training to individuals, Denise and Margaret have also delivered training to City Councils and have just completed a year long project to train 41 staff to Hampshire County Council so that they can provide NVR groups across the region.

Us From this… School House interior…to this! When we moved into the Old School House in 2012, we could see the potential that the building had to offer. With over 40 years of our own combined experience in education, it seemed right to try to breathe new life into the educational history of the building, which had closed as a village school in the mid 1960s. We have always been interested in crafts and creative activities, including music and arts. We’ve always looked for new opportunities to learn and develop craft skills, and these have often been quite unplanned – the spontaneous purchase of a spinning wheel at a local auction for example, or the pile of bookbinding equipment we found in a local antiques store. The enjoyment gained from gaining mastery of a new skill or technique, particularly of a craft from times gone by, is a genuine pleasure, and one that we would hope to share with those who attend workshops at Old School Crafts.

Duncan has been teaching Pilates for over fifteen years, having qualified in matwork as a master matwork teacher and a level 4 lower back pain exercise specialist. Along with matwork, Duncan is qualified in Reformer, Cadillac and the Wunda chair and all the small equipment. Along with the classes and private sessions he runs in his own studio, Duncan is part of the Teacher Training team for Body Control Pilates, teaching the level 3 matwork, level 4 movement and adaptations, intermediate and advanced mat, all the small equipment and the Pilates for runners course. Until recently, he was teaching the intermediate and advanced teacher classes on a weekly basis in London. Along with teaching at Body Control Pilates, Duncan also teaches his own teacher workshops around the country. Aside from Pilates, Duncan is a keen runner, having taken part in over 40 marathons and half marathons and works with lots of local runners on improving running technique.

Gordon House Education Consultancy (GHEC) Ltd was set up in 2007. We have over 40 years’ experience of working as a teacher, education officer, education adviser in Ministries of Education and consultant in the UK (mostly London) and overseas. This unique breadth of experience and expertise means that GHEC has a wealth of knowledge to draw on when undertaking independent investigations which is the area of work we now focus on. Over the past 10 years we have conducted over 50 investigations. Serious incidents are fortunately not a daily occurrence in schools but when they do happen and allegations or serious concerns need to be investigated, they can take up huge amounts of time, resources and emotional energy; very often the school staff asked to undertake investigations have little experience of what might be required.
